Staryu Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 z. Halsey - Now or Never Probably the first Halsey song I really vibed with y. Nicki Minaj - Your Love I love the sample this song uses, it was a cute single for Onika x. ChloeXHalle - Cool People This is pretty, they are a cute duo. w. Shawn Mendes - Mercy This isn't bad, I miss baby Shawn before he was corrupted my Camila's vagina v. Sia - Alive This song is cute, I'm surprised Sia hasn't won a Grammy though u. Charli XCX - Gone A bop! Both are underrated queens t. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend a 00s pop classic tbh s. Kesha - C'mon This was a cute bop, makes me miss fun, carefree Kesha r. Florence + the Machine - Queen of Peace Queen of vocals q. Lana Del Rey - Love Wow one of Lana's best :wig: I like all these songs I know my top 4 but after that it's just which do I like a little less I guess
Navyofbadgals Posted January 28, 2020 Author Posted January 28, 2020 Bagels' Critiques GROUP 1 Quote a. Jordin Sparks - No Air - another song with fist brown yall forreal? At least no one sent camila yet I guess. the song itself still kinda slaps, Jordin did that b. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll - it's a bit basic, it really has this early 10s vibe to it, which isn't awful. It's a fun-ish song, but not amazing c. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel - funny how Prince has been quiet since Janelle released this classique d. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien - idk bout this instrumental it's off. Don't think this is really it ehm, but I'm sure many others will like this i guess e. Iggy Azalea - Fancy - one of the biggest guilty pleasures of the 10s easily. I don't know if this is like so good that it should've been nominated for a grammy, but like it's still a lot of fun so can't be too mad at this f. SZA - Love Galore - she was in her bag when she made this huh. Super smooth, laid back, but not too laid back. g. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You - I'm just gonna say it, this was, and never will be a great song. It's way too basic, and felt like Carly's last attempt at being succesful. Really not interesting enough h. Katy Perry - Never Really Over - def much better than all the other post-witness projects (and better than the majority of Witness itself too). A nice comeback, that has def somewhat grown on me over the months i. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell! - but wow the grammys not awarding this will forever be one of their biggest crimes. The absolute nerve she had when she made this the opening track of her album with those opening lyrics absolutely love, ABSOLUTELY j. Kesha - Praying - when I was the first one to note the rainbow link in the vid back at the time and snatched the Rainbow album thread ahh Ed Shartran winning over this masterpiece still hurts. This is stunning, emotional and still listenable (unlike many other emotional and personal songs, like one released by a certain artist this week ) -------------- GROUP 2 Quote z. Halsey - Now Or Never - ahh the Needed Me print Rihallah snapped. This is no Needed Me, but I don't mind this at all. It's a fun track y. Nicki Minaj - Your Love - something.. is off about her vocals here. It's not awful, the annie lennox sample here is really nice, but I don't love this either x. ChloeXHalle - Cool People - quite a nice track. I do feel like it suffers from the same problem as many of the songs on their album do, which is that it's a bit forgettable imo. Not a bad effort tho w. Shawn Mendes - Mercy - v. Sia - Alive - eh at that point it already felt like she was giving us chandelier 2.0 (but worse), and I still feel like this. The vocals are a bit too much for me too u. Charli XCX - Gone - easily one of the best singles of 2019. It's so good t. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend - the verses are much worse than i remember ehm.. I like the chorus tho but ehm yeah s. Kesha - C'mon - I like this lol. It's a solid kesha'd pop tune. Not her best work, but still a solid effort r. Florence + The Machine - Queen of Peace - oop this is better than Hunger actually a really nice track q. Lana Del Rey - Love - stunning and beautiful and easily the best track this round (and that says a lot because it's a pretty good round overall). Everyone putting this lower than 1st place in their rankings will be cursed this 2020 and that's on period x also ehm where them rankings and critiques at, I really only got 1/20 huh also I know some are more negative than others but I think everybody did generally well this round so be proud i guess x Spoiler @Element @Witch Privilege @rl231 @kiiwii @Overprotected @Moonlightbae @Psycho @Staryu @Alena @luckystrike @shelven @thecptz @minho @Legend E @PinkBox @MusicLoverDude @Not Like The Movies @Hug @Evy @Clueless
Hug Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Jordin Sparks - No Air Honestly have a bad memory associated with this song. Not that's relevant since the song itself is good, even if it ends up a screaming match...maybe that's why there's no air huh. Avril Lavigne - Rock n Roll Truth? It's completely forgettable. Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel If someone told me Janelle had like 8 Gramm,ys i wouldn't even bat an eye. She seems like the type of artist who would get that type of acclaim easily. ANYWAYS, this is okay. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien How this got the level of hype among the gay pop stan community it got is...beyond me. (Well no it isn't...everything Carly does is praised.) Still, I listened to the whole Dedicated album and this was middling. Not actively bad, but not actively good either. Iggy Azalea - Fancy One of the best #1 hits of the last decade....like unironically. Iggy had way too much done to her! SZA - Love Galore This song is SO frustrating to me because I love her voice, and there are parts of this song I find to be brilliant. Then there are other parts where I feel absolutely nothing and it's sad. Katy Perry - Never Really Over This gets an odd amount of acclaim, imo. Like it's the annoying type of catchy AT BEST imo. Effective as a pop song, but for the wrong reasons. 365 deserved to be the critical darling. Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell! Where is Doin' Time? That's a slapper. Anyways, I had to get coffee because I felt really tired and this isn't helping anything. Kesha - Praying This song is such a STATEMENT. It's a statement to the obvious THING, and it's also a statement to critics who have doubted her through her whole career, and to her fans who stuck with her through everything when it would've been so easy to jump ship. I'll always have such a high appreciation for this song for that reason alone.
MusicLoverDude Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Hug not even critiquing I Really Like You
PinkBox Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Ahhh finally miss Carly Rae Jepsen being PANNED by the gays, they finally saw the light
luckystrike Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 (edited) Jordin Sparks - No Air it’s just okay even though the feature ruins it for me, not something I’d listen to regularly. Battlefield >>> Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll This is a classic, I remember I loved this so much when it came out and I still do Janelle Monse - Make Me Feel love this, very great song all around Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien I love Carly so much but this has never been my favorite song by her, I’m not the biggest fan of the instrumental but I mean it’s Carly so it’s a bop nonetheless Iggy Azalea - Fancy ok a CLASSIC! this never gets old SZA - Love Galore I always tried to get into her music but I just never succeeded but this song is okay, one of the ones I kind of enjoyed the most on her album but yeah Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You I mean another bop but this is kinda basic ish, same as Julien not my fave Carly tracks but it’s Carly Katy Perry - Never Really Over a pop gem! I’m mad this didn’t smash, it’s a great song, maybe aged a bit quick though but still the best post Witness release Lana Del Rey - NFR! SOTY that got away I love this and I think it’s one of Lana’s best work Kesha - Praying absolutely beautiful and powerful, also one of Kesha’s best work Edited January 28, 2020 by luckystrike Added
miguel Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 CRITIQUES GROUP 1 Spoiler Jordin Sparks - No Air wheeeew, this is such a great ****ing throwback. It was great then, and it's great now. Chris compliments her voice really well too. Great entry Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll i used to bop to this and HTNGU so much when they came out (when her music wasn't so damn boring). It's still fresh and sounds great, the guitar solo >>>> Janelle Monáe - Make Me Feel one of the few Janelle songs i've listened to and actually really enjoy. It's SO good. The production is genius. Carly Rae Jepsen - Julien i don't hate this, but it's probably one of the weaker songs, not only this round, but in her discography as well. a bore. Iggy Azalea - Fancy a dated mess out of all the Iggy singles that are actually good... SZA - Love Galore i love her voice and the vibe of the song is amazing. It can get a bit boring at times tho. Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You the better Carly Rae entry this round, but still not much more than a basic pop song. It's cute tho, i bopped! Katy Perry - Never Really Over probably the best pure pop song of 2019. the melody, the production, the lyrics, wheeeeew Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell love the song. album deserved AOTY. good job! Kesha - Praying probably my favorite Kesha song EVER. i ****ing love it. her vocals, the lyrics, the piano, all on point. GROUP 2 Spoiler Halsey - Now Or Never I totally forgot about this song and how it sounded. It's kinda unremarkable, nothing special. Nicki Minaj - Your Love issa hard pass for me, tragic all around Chloe x Halle - Cool People at first, i thought it was gonna be a snoozefest. but it's actually a very beautiful, captivating song. i LOVE their voices and the lyrics of the song Shawn Mendes - Mercy one of my favorite Shawn songs. The song is a slay lyrically, vocally and production-wise. Good entry Sia - Alive Sia ****ing deserves a Grammy. This song alone is a perfect example of that. Amazing song-writing + powerful vocals? YUP YUP Charli XCX - Gone Charli hardly EVER does it for me, and, surprisingly, this is an exception. I like this, especially the production and the feature's addition. It drags on a bit too long tho. Should've ended after the 3 minute mark. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend ahhhhhh, ICONIC. a bop! Kesha - C'Mon the INFERIOR Kesha entry nn. I don't hate it tho, it's cute, but a bit dated. Kinda falls flat in comparison to some of the other songs submitted this round, but it's not the worst in this group i guess. Florence + The Machine - Queen Of Peace QUEEN! of making me want this song to end. It's kinda uneventful and boring. Points for the lyrics tho. Lana Del Rey - Love beautiful song. love the lyrics and her vocals when she's singing 'love'. Great entry Spoiler @Element @Witch Privilege @rl231 @kiiwii @Overprotected @Moonlightbae @Psycho @Staryu @Alena @luckystrike @shelven @thecptz @minho @Legend E @PinkBox @MusicLoverDude @Not Like The Movies @Hug @Evy @Clueless
Witch Privilege Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 I can understand the gays hating I Really Like You, but y'all are just TASTELESS for panning Julien. That song is such a disco dream, and if you're not into it, you must be unhappy, loveless, asexuals that don't get human contact.
