I believe he just got frustrated he wasn't getting perfect 10s... But you can't always slay, can you?

I don't see why that's reason to quit. All you can really do is try your best in this game and sometimes it works out. Like striving for perfect 10s is nice and all I guess but you can't expect that to always happen.

I agree with you and I think he should've let that go but yet, this is just an opinion..

OFF

Kelly (I feel like the essay got disconnected in the middle when transitioning from Bad Reputation to Dance With Me and thus made the essay a bit broken, and not as together)

Ariana (I know your essay was a bit rushed, but with only 8 people left, the stakes are higher and you were one of the weaker entries this round)

SAVE

Sia

Halsey

- Both of you were the strongest this round, as you were able to explain both of your song choices evenly, and were able to have both an intro and outro that connected everything.

I am so excited to announce the guest judge of this round because, at the end of the day, he was the very first winner of this game! Such a nostalgic moment! Ladies & Gentlemen, as Sara Bareilles...

Three Swifties when you think about it :)

I'll get by votes in late tonight!

OFF:

1. Kelly Clarkson: It's so hard to vote you off after I saved you last round. However, the idea that you put out was really stretched that I almost see no connection between the two songs, and together they created no feeling towards the diversity of the album for me. Probably you're in such a high standard now that if you fail once, you'll be picked. Shame cause I love Bad Reputation a lot, one of my top 3 favorite from the album.

2. Ariana Grande: Once again, I love 'Focus', but the idea is too stretched, I don't believe 'Focus' has anything to do with her haters, and having that idea makes no relation to 'Moonlight'. Even if we're showing contrast, I do think we still need to find the general to make the album shines, and this connection doesn't shine the album to me.

SAVE:

1. Halsey: A really great bounce back from last week. It's neither complicated nor academic, it's simple yet easy to be impressed. Also, I have to give you props for pairing really great tracks together.

2. The Weeknd: You're my surprise entrant this round. I can feel the emotions yet you still being general towards the two songs. That's really hard to do but I think you interpret it really well.

Will be back to vote within the next few hours hopefully!

Almost 10 pm here and only two votes

Posted (edited)

Just wanted to preface by votes by saying that I think this is the first round where every single person submitted a really strong entry, and because of that, I had an extremely difficult time coming up with my off votes. I'm not exaggerating when I say I stared at the entries for over 20 minutes trying to decide :rip: So for the people I off'd, please don't think your entries were bad any means - this was just an incredibly strong round, so I had to be super picky.

OFF:

Kelly Clarkson: I thought your essay was pretty strong and you made the distinction between dance and love very clear. My main issue is that the songs themselves sounded way too similar to me sonically. They were both really upbeat, fun songs, so I just couldn't convince myself that this was a strong showcase of your album's diversity despite the strong essay. Normally I'm willing to overlook an imperfect song choice if the essay is strong, but this round, everybody's essays were great, so I really had to focus on the song choices as well.

Halsey: Ugh, I hate that I have to do this because you know how much I adore your writing style and essays :chick3: I thought your write-up was very strong as usual, but my criticism is the same as the one I gave for sumthintoxic - I just thought the songs weren't diverse enough sonically. I agree that Roman Holiday was definitely your best choice for the dance track, but there are a lot of darker or moodier sounding songs on Badlands that you could have used for the love track that would have contrasted with Roman Holiday a lot more than Colors does. As I said in sumthintoxic's criticism, normally your essay alone would have been enough for me to ignore that, but this round was simply too tight for me to overlook it.

SAVE:

Samantha Jade: Whew, you're slowly emerging as the dark horse of this season! I thought the song choices were a perfect fit for this round, and you made every point you could have made about the dance/love distinction as well as the overall diversity between the songs. I also thought that your last point about how these songs are just two examples of many diverse offerings on your album was a great concluding sentence.

Ariana Grande: I'm extremely confused why you've gotten multiple off votes already :rip: I thought your song choices were absolutely excellent, and your essay backed them up perfectly. You explained how the songs are love and dance/fun songs respectively in great detail from multiple different angles. If I could give you one criticism going forward, it would be to try to fit some sort of intro into your essay, even if it's a short one - it felt slightly jarring to immediately start reading about one of the two songs.

Conchita - I think the song choices were great, but the biggest reason I'm choosing to save you is that it was an improvement (at least in my eyes) from the other rounds. It's good to see you taking all the comments into consideration when creating your entry. You effectively discussed why each track was about dance or love and how it demonstrates diversity.

Samantha Jade - I absolutely LOVE that you bought in other rounds' songs alongside these songs to further prove your case for Nine's diversity. You chose great songs about fun and love to demonstrate such diversity and it's been so great watching your improvements!

OFF

Kelly - I would have loved a little more discussion about "Dance With Me". It's becoming so hard to vote off people and unfortunately, the songs were not incredibly diverse sonically.

The Weeknd - I hate to do this because I think this week was an improvement, but I would have loved a conclusion which spoke about why both the tracks show the album's diversity. However, I do believe you chose great tracks and discussed them individually to a high standard.

This was so hard. It took me at least half an hour :rip:

Sent! Excited for the trinity of The Lord's disciples to rain our revenge on ATRL :fan:

Also, I am a bit confused as to why people are talking about/voting based on sonic diversity when the question didn't really ask for it?
