lhdang2000 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 This is such a tough challenge in general tho.
Queen Conchita Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I swear this gets more difficult to judge every round

But I realize that I normally don't do good with upbeat tracks and that have been proved through seasonS...
shelven Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 dddd so I saw the song title "Castle" right under my entry and my mind immediately assumed it was Halsey's (I forgot Rihlana already used it), so I got so confused when I saw the essay reference the name Samantha

MusicLoverDude Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 A little late but Happy Birthday @ReachOut
MusicLoverDude Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Well here goes nothing. It's already hard to decide who to vote off OFF The Weeknd (we're three rounds in, and you totally just let yourself underperform) Troye (your essay wasn't as organized as others) Adele (I hate to vote you off after the support you've given me this game, but I felt like this round, while your essay is beautifully written, it didn't go into enough as to why this song was worthy of the ROTY award) SAVE Halsey (this song slays plus your essay was very articulate) Robyn (well written and I love that you referenced the Calum Scott cover to backup that the song has had impact). Honourable mentions: Hilary (an improvement over the last two rounds, and the best choice from the album) Ariana (the song slays ) Kelly (best song on the album. If Since U Been Gone could get an award, so could Nostalgic) Sia (shelven always does well with his essays)
lhdang2000 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Well, since my essay is a bit different, I think I'd explain a bit. Unlike the others, I don't want to go to the ROTY route so much because when I read the topic, I thought of being general and placed myself as a member of the Grammys committee. That's why I don't explain much the reasons why the Grammys should pick a song to win ROTY or refers the song to any of the winners as I (or we) should have known about that as a member already. Instead, I just go ahead and analyze the elements in the song that makes it deserve to be ROTY. But I understand MLD's vote, probably because I was too different from what should have been done. Anyway, I'm halfway through the votes, probably cast mine by this time tomorrow.

Most people put in some effort this round, and it's just hard. Plus, I work on the weekend, so I had to get my vote in today.
sumthintoxic82 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 this round is SUPER hard to judge...and vote off I should have mine sent tomorrow
borntodieee Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 save Ariana Sia off The Weeknd (it just seemed too short and not very descriptive) Troye Sivan (you only wrote about the meaning/lyrics, rather than the actual recording) Hilary Duff (also did not focus enough on the actual recording for me, sounded more like it should be Song Of The Year)

MusicLoverDude Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I'm not sure if I've seen BT around before
shelven Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Going to try to make my comments a bit shorter this time since they've been really long the last two rounds OFF Hilary Duff: While you did briefly speak about Hilary's vocals, you mostly talked about the lyrics and how the song is relatable to listeners as opposed to actually discussing why the song is a well-made record. Troye Sivan: This would have been a great entry for a Song Of The Year round since you spoke about the lyrics and message of the song very well. Unfortunately, you didn't mention anything about the actual production or recording of the song. The Weeknd: Your essay was simply way too short (especially since we're now three rounds in) and didn't really provide any details or fleshed-out reasons for why this song deserves the award. SAVE Halsey: Actual picture of me after reading your entry --> In my opinion, you were miles above everybody else this round. You took us through the whole song from start to finish, providing TONS of detailed, relevant reasons for why this song deserves ROTY, and you still managed to paint an overall picture of the song and sound extremely cohesive. If you're not #1 this round, you'll have been robbed. Ariana Grande: You provided a very good mix of specific examples of the song's strength and a general overview of why it's such a well made song overall. You seemed to have a firm grasp on what characteristics people might look for in a ROTY, and why your song has those exact characteristics. Honourable Mention: Lemon Demon - I have no idea why you've gotten multiple off votes. Yes, your entry was a bit short and I do recommend writing a bit more in future rounds, but despite the length, your entry was one of the more detailed and focused ones. Like Rihlana and theycallmemaraj, you were one of the few people who I felt provided specific and relevant reasons for why this song would be a good ROTY winner.
