They're not making any significant amount less. I've literally been in the room with Randy Goodman of Sony as he lectured me on this. I held your exact same views until he showed me the numbers and showed me the facts. Artists don't hurt nearly as much as you think they do. Yes they've taken a pay dip. That pay dip doesn't affect 99% of artists. It affects 99% of songwriters who aren't also artists, though. I'm just a mixing engineer so I don't get paid enough for a mansion but the vast majority of artists who hire me as a mix engineer are most popular on Soundcloud and Spotify Trust me as someone who held your views and cares a lot about the industry I understand you entirely and think it's ridiculous how badly some artists are treated - but I disagree with the idea that major label artists are hurting a lot because of this.
