Billboard to add Songwriter/Producer Charts

"Billboard is expanding its chart offerings by introducing Top Songwriters and Top Producers rankings based on weekly activity on the Billboard Hot 100 and other “Hot”-named genre song charts that blend streaming, airplay and sales data.

The charts will debut in the Billboard issue dated June 15, and in the Billboard Bulletin email blast delivered to subscribers on June 13. Top 10 charts for Hot 100 songwriters and producers will be featured each week, joined by a rotating set of charts from two other genres among R&B/hip-hop, rap, R&B, country, rock, dance/electronic, Latin, Christian and gospel.

“We’re extremely excited to acknowledge the top creative forces behind music’s biggest hits on a weekly basis,” says Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard svp of charts and data development. “A songwriter or producer’s influence and importance within the industry and beyond certainly merits recognition beyond our yearly rankings.”

The charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter or producer for each attributed song that appears on the respective charts. As done with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally."

Wonder who will snatch these #1s :eatpopcorn:

Good... Let's see if those A artists are capable of actually writing and producing charting songs.

Lil Nas X will only get 33% of the points but thats still enough for a #1 in the Songwriters chart :rip: Doesnt OTR have like 750+ points right now

Poor Max Martin and Dr Luke. They would have ruled this chart :rip:

This is interesting, I really love the concept.

However, im wondering if they’re actually going to count artists/singers/pop stars if you know what I mean?

Not doing it would be so unfair to artists who genuinely write and produce all their work instead of just buying and negotiating credits but on the other hand it would make the chart less messy idk... :rip:

I think it’s going to be between Billie & Post Malone. Post has 2 songs in the top10 and Billie 3 or 4 songs in the Hot100. They can make up the difference.
