In fact every western pop girl in China is irrelevant to the public besides Taylor (obviously), Avril and maybe Adele. If they were true, she would've toured the hell out of China already and raked in the tens of millions, maybe even 100m+. Just like with our social media followings, these can be manipulated too. The numbers are not fake and her album sales in China prove it. She is the top western artist on every single application in China. For reputation, she allegedly had stadium dates booked in China but something came up with the government concerning the fireworks used on the tour. I don’t mean to sound ignorant on the topic but I saw an interview once where Liu Yifei said that Rihanna was one of her fave U.S singers I think. Does China have an official singles chart; how many number ones/top tens do Rihanna, Taylor, Avril, Adele etc. have? What about albums charts? The stats for Youtube views, Facebook followers, Google Trends, Spotify and Apple Music for Hong Kong and Taiwan suggest she has about as many fans per capita as in the US (but still less than Singapore). She sold out three arena dates in Shanghai for 1989 tour with ticket prices 50% higher than the average for her American leg, so I'm quite confident she could've sold out a stadium there. Not sure how fast the 2nd and 3rd dates sold out since those were announced later but the 1st out sold out in a minute. Now that her touring power has grown, she could probably sell out multiple stadiums in Shanghai. Beijing and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen-Guangzhou areas have similar sized economies/populations so she could sell out stadiums there too imo. Perhaps she could even sell out stadiums in 2nd tier cities like Wuhan, Chongqing, Tianjin and Chengdu although I expect her to be conservative and focus on the big three markets for her first attempt to sell out stadiums in China.
