Another example why it's time for gays to let go of pure sales

Yeah.

Though it’d be nice to kind of see a list of post-SPS releases and the best pure. At the very least there can be an average on what’s moving decent units these days.

I'll wait until the year's over before officially updating but looks like another one in the basket. :jonny:

What's a good source for US sales? Chartmasters claims 6.5 million for Revolver, but it's only certified 5x Platinum, which is the same as the sales for The Monkee's self-titled debut. Makes me wonder if it and other albums are also under-certified.

The Sound of Music soundtrack also seems massively under-certified (RIAA Gold). Sales weren't that high in 1965, so it probably still didn't sell more than Rubber Soul, but it's hard to say for sure.

Speak Now could've also been on this list, its numbers are so close to Recovery's. I think it's at 4.6-4.7M now.

More like 4.9 to 4.7 the difference is around 200k

Only because this is pure sales and US only. She would have 0 when talking about WW and album equivalents.

It’s funny how Rock (and to some extent country) artists actually always have bigger (gigantic) peaks than pop stars but I suppose not as consistent

Incredible.
Congrats to all the acts. :clap3:

You should probably edit « US » in the title.

Debut would still have been number one for 2006, Fearless for 2008, Red for 2012, and 1989 for 2014 including album equivalents too. Also, aren't pure sales harder to pull than streams? Besides, Debut is still top 5 for 2006, Fearless is no. 3 for 2008, Speak Now top 5 for 2010, Red no. 3 for 2012, 1989 no. 2 for 2014, Reputation top 5 for 2017, and Lover no. 3 for 2019 WW including BOTH album equivalents and sales. Now if her albums wouldn't have been off of Spotify for 3 years, Fearless, Red and 1989 would all have a shot at no. 1 for their respective years, maybe even debut.

I thought Titanic soundtrack album was the best selling album in 1998, no?

This is biggest album by year of release, not by sales year. Titanic Soundtrack was released in 1997 and was significantly outsold by Come On Over. It seems like Devil Without A Cause barely outsold Titanic Soundtrack too though.
