I don’t like most of her stuff, but the final few songs on AIAG really surprised me. Not really a fan of her whole AI/robot image.

Honestly a lot of it is forgettable  a cute couple of songs though.

This outtake from last years excellent Everybody Works delivers more of Melina Duterte's catchy bedroom pop. If you're feeling o.k., meet me underwater...

 

I'm far from the biggest The 1975 fan and I found a lot of A Brief Inquiry... self indulgent and pretentious, but **** did they snap on this track. Some of the lyrics remain questionable ("rest in peace Lil Peep" ) but it's a great pop-rock song nonetheless.

 

Would this be on my Best Of list if Lana wasn't featured? Probably not, but her feature helped me access a lot of Cat's music that I had previously not gotten into. Woman sounds like an impromptu duet at an open mic night - unexpected and delightful.

 

I could pretty much put the entirety of Be the Cowboy on my top 50 songs list and have them be the top 14 songs, but that would be boring. What isn't boring is this excellent cut from it. One of the more guitar-heavy songs on the album, it brings together Mitski's Makeout Creek days with her Cowboy persona.

 

Whilst I enjoyed 2017s Exile in the Outer Ring, nothing on it hit me as hard as this outtake from it, released early this year. It feels like the cathartic mirror to 2011s The Grey Ship (a career highlight).

LIIWMI  Woman and that Jay Sumn sing were kinda boring, but I appreciate the latter releasing an outtake from the album session, I love when artists do that. And speaking of artists who released outtakes, fellow EMA stan?  I love Erika so much, I'm still rocking my EMA totebag
