I really liked that Frankie Cosmos album, but I kinda ended up forgetting about it. Mitski pulled the 1-2 min long songs better this year 

It's no Into You, but she's a cute girl  yeah the whole album was kinda forgettable. Mitski would kick the **** outta her with an amp in a fight.

They're pretty new and I think their best is definitely yet to come

Honestly I only gave the album a few listens but I remember it being pretty good

So I've linked to a live version of this song because it's the version I've listened to the most and it's better than the studio version IMO  A really cute acoustic song that brightens up my mornings whenever I listen to it

 

This was the soundtrack to my depression throughout September... the heavy, almost distorted, guitar and muffled vocals

 

So Heat Wave was on this list until about a week or so ago when I gave Lush another spin and realised this is kind of better than it  The more melancholy vibe and nicer melody sort of hit me when I was walking around feeling a bit sad  I definitely think Snail Mail's best is yet to come.

 

The buildup in this song  I'm obsessed with the final 30 seconds - "i'm so high, I'm so high, i can see an angel" 

 

An underrated indie queen. On Dark Horses is an amazing album and this one really got the serotonin self-destroying. If you couldn't tell by these picks sad girl guitar music is sort of my heroin

Another band I only just discovered this year  An amazing song reminiscent of 00s pop-punk

 

Basically a 10 minute long slow jam, but an incredible one

 

It was hard to pick just one song off of Historian (I almost went with Timefighter) but I had to go with this because of the opening line and intense ending. The way it completely changes tempo halfway through  ahhh the TALENT

 

I really wanted to like Negro Swan but just found it a bit meh as a whole, except for this track. The guitar work and beat are so unique and make it a standout. 

 

Wasn't the biggest fan of God's Favorite Customer, but a few tracks did stand out to me, particularly this one. One of the most uptempo and pop-like songs FJM has done yet and it's an experience
