I have a feeling The Kid is going #1, and "pov" looks very strong as a #1 contender.

‘She’s Perfect Right Now for Top 40’: How Ariana Grande Made History at Pop Radio

billboard.com/articles/business/radio/9573936/ariana-grande-radio-pop-airplay-history

With a record number of singles in the top 10 of the Pop Airplay chart, the superstar is demonstrating her radio dominance -- as well as how top 40 has evolved.

Now, with a record three concurrent top 10 hits on the chart, Grande has demonstrated just how dominant her blend of traditional pop, R&B, hip-hop influences and powerhouse vocals have become at the format. "Listeners love her," says Jeremy Rice, director of branding and programming for WBLI (Long Island, N.Y.). "The consumption and research is there. She flows very well alongside other rhythmic and pop records. She's perfect right now for top 40."

"She's mass appeal -- she reaches moms and daughters among millions of followers," adds Jon Zellner, president of programming operations at iHeartMedia. "All three of these songs are catchy, they have strong hooks, they're melodic, and they span a couple of generations, which is different from a very young-end artist that doesn't have a larger appeal for thirty-plus listeners."

Not many artists can sit atop the Billboard Hot 100 and boast an even more significant chart achievement during the same week. Yet that’s arguably what Ariana Grande did last week, when “Save Your Tears,” her latest team-up with The Weeknd, spent a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Hot 100 -- just as Grande made history on a different chart with three other hit singles.

On Billboard's mainstream top 40 radio-based Pop Airplay chart, “POV,” Grande’s latest single from last year’s Positions album, rose three spots to No. 10 in its seventh week (on the chart dated May 15), while the album’s first two singles, “Positions” and “34+35,” came in at No. 6 and No. 9, respectively. As such, Grande became the first artist to post three top 10 songs at the same timein the Pop Airplay chart’s 29-year history.

Why is Best Friend and Kiss Me More getting such sub par updates on pop. Because they are both Doja songs?

Does Levitating has a chance to reach the Pop Airplay #1?

Not necessarily, if anything Doja should help both songs since she has already a #1 Pop hit. The format is just too cautious when it comes to rap in general (BF). And about KMM, it's probably due to fammiliary, it's still a fresh song to test, situation should be different when its callouts are released.

Sure it does, but I think it's going to depend on medium/small stations. Back to February (when it was dropped), most of these stations had it on Power, but big stations decided to drop it. The situation is quite the opposite now, so they had to decide if it's not already a 'saturated' record already.

Also, it has to fight against Republic avalanche with both Bieber already strong and Ari's "pov" coming hard.

The song has no playlisting because it already racked up 200M streams months ago.

Why does this have to be explained constantly?

There's no promo, no playlisting, nor any performances for it.

Last time someone checked, it barely had 16M playlist reach on Spotify.

Also it jumped 700 spots in on Apple Music to #320~ off of being added to one playlist. :priceless:

Yet it's top 10 on pop radio and no one's streaming? Who wants to listen then?

Metrics of consumption are not dependent on one another because the audience for each metric are not wholly overlapping. Again, this is music 101. Why is this confusing? When a significant portion of streaming is playlist-generated, why would a song being played on radio then make it dominate streaming despite having... no playlisting?

The song already went viral and racked up 200M streams. Many of the people who would be listening to it out-played it.

This isn't like random airplay hits that'll stall at 30M streams its whole time yet be hammered by radio. The song was already certified platinum before radio even touched it. :priceless:

I honestly believe Ari hates or doesn't care about "pov", and making it a third single was label's choice more than anything.

I thought she was performing at the BBMA's. :ace:

It's just disingenuous to talk about streaming while ignoring playlisting:

Song TTH Position
1. Peaches 6
2. Save Your Tears 4
3. WITHOUT YOU 15
4 (+1) pov N/A
5 (-1) my ex's best friend N/A
6. Leave the Door Open 7
7. positions N/A
8. Astronaut in the Ocean 8
9 (+1) We're Good 18
10 (+1) Beautiful Mistakes 10
11 (-2) 34+35 47
12. Best Friend 21
13. Kiss Me More 3
14. drivers license N/A
15. Goosebumps (Remix) 12
16. deja vu 14
17. MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) 5
18. Heat Waves 17
19. Up 26
20. Your Power 9
21. Hold On 19
22. telepatía 32
23. Lil Bit 26
24. You 42
25. Way Less Sad N/A
26. Arcade 29
27. Heartbreak Anniversary 13
28. Sacrifice N/A
29. Calling My Phone N/A
30. la di die N/A
40. I'm Not Pretty N/A
41. Just Like You N/A
42. Rapstar 11
43. I Did It 35
44. Higher Power 23
45. Good Days N/A
46. Waves of Blue N/A
47. Sucks Being Sober N/A
48. Track Star N/A
49. Homesick N/A
50. good 4 u 1

It's just odd to bash on pov when something like, for example, my ex's best friend got to #3 with less than 300M streams in the course of 9 months (it was also a pre-album single) while arguing that pov's streaming is weak at 200M streams in just a few months despite being a post-album single.

Let alone none of us are arguing pov's streaming is strong. Of course it's weak - it's on zero playlists! :priceless:
