You replied better than I could. NFW is racing up the AI radio charts now (even before it was officially sent to radio) but it's going to stall around the Top 15 because Pop won't pick up for another week or two and even then it'll drag its feet. This happens consistently it's just that now Drake has major streams to offset the discrepancy.

Top 40 as a format has its own set of core artists and Drake just has never been one of them. It’s not about who’s popular on The Hot 100 since that involves popularity beyond pop radio especially with the streaming audience. Two totally different audiences. That’s why so many songs that go Top 10 on Pop radio don’t have good streaming Pop radio does take digital sales into consideration, although I think the impact of that is lessening as the digital sales market is dying. Hidden
Ppl complaining drake isn’t #1 on pop? Really? Myself I dislike rap a lot and I change stations everytime a rap-ish song comes on. So do many radio listeners. It’s not that deep. Drake does have pop appeal and is widely known but his music isn’t necessarily the type of pop song to be played on pop. He’s got rhythmic and urban radio for rap fans. The fact he always manages to go top 10 on pop shows he’s not being treated poorly. It’s the same logic the other way around: nobody ever complained Havana was never played on urban, despite how big the song is and Young Thug’s feature. I mean the argument is how out of touch T40 is, not necessarily “Drake’s not #1 omg!1”. It’s just an example. You can use a different song of a different genre too. No one’s expecting Kodak Black or Gucci to have 5 Pop #1s or anything. Havana being played on Urban makes no sense. T40 is the most diverse format, with the largest reach, yet its stagnant on songs America is not showing interest in. And is controlled by heavy stations that are at the hands of the labels. Why can G-Eazy’s rap song top pop and not the biggest single of 2018? They’re both rap songs. Urban/rhythmic are at a disadvantage audience impression wise as well, so putting them down is interesting. And liking God’s Plan doesn’t simply make you a “rap fan”. It’s spent 12 weeks at #1, broke multiple streaming records and still near the apex of all formats. Clearly its reach is beyond “rap fans” and should be shown accordingly. But he doesn’t release songs with that much pop influence/big hooks like the NF songs and the other songs you mentioned God’s Plan has neither element. The fact that it has gotten this far already on Pop radio really shows Pop support but to be unsatisfied until it hits #1 on Pop radio is being greedy since it’s not the type of song that fits the format in the first place

It’s not hard to understand there’s no vendetta against Drake on pop radio If anything they are being very supportive given that the song doesn’t really fit the format musically. Rawr
I’m not sure if it’s just me or I think it’s pretty obvious and logical why drake gets bad treatment on pop, it happens to plenty of rappers not just him either. His music has never been top 40 type and the songs that are more that lane like one dance do better there. Its literally the SAME thing as like urban not playing pop songs or country not playing heavy metal.

Havana is NOT an Urban song simply because it has a Rapper (maybe you shouldn’t even be joining the discussion if you don’t know what Urban music is). So no, that comparison is invalid. Top 40 is not supposed to play purely Pop music. It's suppose to play a mix of whats popular. 4 hours ago, levi_valvi said: You reall should compare it to how many week those songs had as #1 on urban or rhytmic. Like you can't compare pop songs to non-pop songs like this No we shouldn’t — that makes no sense. Urban and Rhythmic play a certain genre of music, R&B and Hip-Hop. Just as nobody is complaining that Drake isn’t charting on HAC & AC while Pop artists dominate that section — because they play a certain genre that is completely not meant for Drake’s music. Top 40 however is meant to play a spread of genres. The similarity between the music is that it’s popular music for the general crowd. Drake is the biggest artist in the country, and has a 11 week #1 hit. Obviously it should be at the top of Top 40 Radio if they’re supposed to be playing popular music. 3 hours ago, brainmaniac said: The main demo for pop is usually more like 18-34 and they’re usually women and often white, so it’s not going to be the same as the main streaming demographic And none of those rappers are core pop artists either. Because white women aged 18-34 eat up his music. You would find a 21 year old white female who listens to Drake frequently before you find one that listens to Camila Cabello and Meghan Trainor. Views was the biggest album of 2016, and he looks to have the biggest album of 2018. You don’t get the huge crossover widespread appeal Drake has without also connecting with the white audience largely. There’s a reason God’s Plan spent 8 weeks at #1 in sales. Do you think black people are heavily using iTunes more than white people? Especially in 2018? He clearly has a huge connect with the white audience. And just as you guys say those under aged 18 mostly use Streaming; therefore his huge power on iTunes is from the demographic ages 18-34. All of those artists each did much better on Drake at Top 40 during their peak, despite him having just as much appeal. That’s the issue. And Drake has more hits total than Kanye/TI/50 on Pop because his career has been successful longer; however his biggest single peaks on Pop are smaller than theirs despite the larger career. Again, that’s the issue.
