  1. Stereogum published an article about "Royals" and Lorde's impact, rating it a 10/10. It's a part of their column covering number ones and goes into a further discussion about the song, its meaning and its impact — as well as talking a little bit about Lorde. Looks like it's a big hit too since it received over 400 comments on the website itself "In the years after "Royals,” record labels rushed to sign their own versions of Lorde. You could hear her influence in something as minor as the whispery vocals that a full-on mainstream pop star like Selena Gomez adapted. (Gomez, who covered "Royals" on her 2013 tour, will eventually appear in this column.) Shy and talented kids like Alessia Cara and Khalid seemed like transparent attempts to manufacture newer, more obvious versions of Lorde. It's frankly impossible to imagine Halsey and Billie Eilish, two acts that this column will cover, existing without Lorde's example. The shift wasn't immediate, but the pop center moved away from the big-and-bold Katy Perry types. You could argue that the center ceased to exist entirely, but we'll get more into that whole saga in the days ahead.” https://www.stereogum.com/2258734/the-number-ones-lordes-royals/columns/the-number-ones/ Thoughts?
  2. Godly writer Taylor Swift said on her new record "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT". So, if she really thinks he deserved so much better that she had to put this lyric out to the world as the world's biggest artist out right now — why she's not using him as a producer instead of Jack Antonoff? Why Taylor Swift has 0 works produced by Charlie Puth? Discuss. A reminder: recently ATRL decided that Taylor Swift is a better songwriter than Lorde & Billie Eilish, surpassing Lorde by a few votes on this thread:
  3. Journalist Alaina Demopoulos wrote that Lana Del Rey's headline performance at Coachella 2024 fell short of expectations. Despite her iconic status, her lackluster delivery, mic problems, and apparent indifference left many attendees disappointed. Guest appearances by Jon Batiste and Billie Eilish highlighted the stark contrast in vocal quality. Eilish's performance with Del Rey, particularly their rendition of "Video Games," was a standout moment, but by then, much of the audience had already left. If Dua had released Espresso….

I can't help but think Espresso sounds like a mix of Potion, and the Future Nostalgia album. so what if Dua had released it instead of Ms Sabrina? Would Dua get dragged for "making the same song" again? Would people appreciate the actual FN-lite sound which Houdini and TS lack? Or is it just that Sabrina has more hype and power than Dula?
  5. K Michelle's "VSOP" was released 11 years ago. Get in and appreciate this modern classic. We gon light some candles tonight… VEH REY SPE SHO. We gon do whatever you like… VEH REY SPE SHO. Got some Henny chillin on ice… VEH REY SPE SHO. Hope you make the rest of my life… VEH REY SPE SHO.

    MY TTPD Review

The best track of the album is Who's Afraid of Little old me? Some songs feel like listening to Lana Del Rey for example So Long, London and others. It was torture listening to it from start to finish , its too long for me
  7. Ugh this bop is just sooo smooth I prefer it to "Whole Again" if I'm being honest It peaked at #3 on the European Hot 100 and the UK
  8. Perrie Edwards' long-awaited solo release is outperforming global sensation Dua Lipa on iTunes. Why? Is it because Perrie has a potential smash-hit, or is this simply another case of fans rushing to iTunes to show their support? UK Apple Music #35. (NEW) Perrie – "Forget About Us" #79. (NEW) Dua Lipa – "Illuision"
  9. literally what were people on. this was THE sound. was it homophobia?
  10. The way they had so many bops Their version of "Whole Again" ended Atomic Kitten I fear Their debut album went Gold in the USA despite peaking at #88
  11. ...the following sentences start being uttered: "It's just a fun mindless bop, not everything has to be deep!" "You white gays only want bops!" (in the case of mediocre ballads) "If [insert artist who would never release said song] released this, the critics would be stanning!".

Could your fav do this at 47?

Ohh the moment this smash was - truly one of the defining bangers of the 2000s
  13. How did this NOISE (complimentary) ever get played in US pop radio? It speaks to Madonna's power that she was able to make a song like this go #1. The US didn't even **** with French house like that, but they had to make an exception for the queen.
  14. In no order: Rogue, Nightcrawler, Gambit Kitty Pryde Storm And I really appreciate Beast and Iceman. Jean is also great.
  15. BRANDY The Boy Is Mine Almost Doesn't Count Sittin' Up In My Room Top Of The World I Wanna Be Down What About Us? Have You Ever Full Moon Afrodisiac TONI BRAXTON Un-Break My Heart You're Makin' Me High He Wasn't Man Enough You Mean The World To Me Another Sad Love Song Just Be A Man About It Breathe Again Spanish Guitar Stupid who u got…?
  16. Do you love it? Do you hate it? Why?
  17. Most streamed female albums on Spotify yesterday: 1. Eternal Sunshine: 15.33M (-7.93%) 2. Cowboy Carter: 13.59M (-17.57%) Ariana came out on top again despite Cowboy Carter was released 21 days after Eternal Sunshine. Also it has 27 tracks while Eternal Sunshine has only 13 tracks. Why?
  18. I had no idea who Fiona Apple was before this album came out. I never listened to the type of music she made and I was sure I wouldn't be able to connect with her. But the minute I pressed play on this album I was HOOKED . This album is raw, honest, playful, and so much more. I feel like it's either a you love it or you hate it body of work. But I absolutely understood it's appeal. There's an underlying theme of chaos throughout this whole album but somehow Fiona seems to withstand it all. This album made me fall in love with her My personal top 3: SHE SAID MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE RIGHTS!! Omg. What an opener holy **** The lyrics are just so honest and real lmao she's a genius
  19. Thread inspired by my last business trip. While driving I was listening to the radio all the time and after jumping from one radio station to another, I was surprised, how many random songs are used as "goldens" in Poland. For example, this ABBA cover from 2006, I guess nobody remembers it now, but in Poland we difinitely do - I heard it like 3 times. Another song, which was huge in Poland and still is played very often is Latto and LU KALA. It's currently at #47 in Polish Airplay Chart, with 57 weeks inside Top 100. What are randon airplay smashes in your contries?
  20. Pretty interesting breakdown
