  2. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CxTbFZRLfxZ/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== The comments section is almost unanimous. Does ATRL agree?
  3. This masterpiece. The melody, the drama, the melancholic feel….easily the best song on DYK. Thoughts girls?
  4. In 2022, we seen blockbuster releases from well established MPG's like Beyonce and Taylor Swift. However, a lot of notable pop girls were sort of missing from the 2022 album releases. Similar to how 2021 played out, do you think the *newer* MPG's will take over 2023? For example, album releases from Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Kim Petras and Dua Lipa? or would you prefer to see a wildcard debut? or some more MPG releases from the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or (finally) Rihanna?
  5. 777M streams The third most streamed song of the album.
  6. She got it all. Fame, money, loved by the GP, biggest fan base, career never been bigger, biggest tour of all time, etc etc etc and now seems to be dating this man I think I am
  7. I just finished watching the great & acclaimed show "It's a Sin" on Max where Olly Alexander plays the main character. I haven't heard these songs in a long time but they still sound so good
  8. ATRL called Scarlet an abysmal flop and wrote it off immediately. Yet Agora Hills is starting to smash which will give the album more longevity. Why does Doja keep winning?
  9. The second single of Scarlet era is rising. Doja won again?
  10. I just know Ms. Petras realized Girl Like Me was about to come out and serve what Kim hadn’t been serving

Kim Petras: what went wrong? (Long read)

So, I wanted to do a dive into Kim's history as a burgeoning pop star, because it's incredibly messy. While Kim has always felt at the edge of mainstream crossover, she never really made it. I put together a chronology of her career, and I think she's a great case study for mishandling of up and coming stars careers - Arriving in 2017 with sugary pop hits like I Don't Want It At All and Heart to Break, Kim Petras breathed new life into what was a dying pop scene at the time. R&B and hip hop had taken the top spots on the charts while the other pop girls were putting on their best island girl accents to try keep up with it. Kim quickly gained traction as a reliable source of glittery pop songs, racking up tens of millions of streams on her early batch of singles mostly on word of mouth and no major label. Opting not to release a debut album from her first set of singles, now referred to as "Era 1", Kim begins to promote her so-called debut album Clarity with a new set of singles. Clarity was well received by fans and critics alike, holding an 83 Metascore and firmly establishing Kim as an artist to watch in the pop music sphere. We see upward trajectory here, right? This is where things start to wobble a bit. Released independently and sitting at 132 million streams on Spotify, Clarity feels like a success. It didn't chart or anything, but this was a respectable performance for a debut artist that up until this point hadn't really had any traditional promotion, but it doesn't seem like Kim and her camp agreed. Following Clarity's release, the project was later referred to as her debut mixtape. A minor walkback at the time, but one that set the stage for instability for the next few years of her career. Less than a year after Clarity, Kim returns with Malibu, the lead single from her "debut album". Malibu felt primed to take a step into the mainstream, with its music video including cameos from multiple celebrities and Kim making her TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel and HBO pride. Although still gaining a respectable amount of streams for an independent artist, sitting at 35 million on Spotify, Malibu did not chart. Kim disappears for a year and this debut album doesn't materialise. A year later Kim returns with Future Starts Now, the lead single to her next so-called debut album Problematique, her first release under a major label at Dr Luke's new Republic imprint. Future Starts Now performs moderately, if not a little worse than Malibu. This single is followed by Coconuts which fairs similarly. Two months later, Kim releases and tours her new EP **** Pop, which does not include either single. (What? aren't we in the middle of an album rollout?) **** Pop sheds the glittery vibes of her previous work in favour of short, quotable, TikTok ready tracks. This release polarises fans and critics. Following **** Pop's rollout things begin to look a little uncertain, there's a clear desire to break her out into the mainstream, but nothing is sticking. Problematique leaks and Republic shelves the album and sends her back to the studio. Finally, Kim lands her first #1 with a short feature on Sam Smith's Unholy. With three false starts under her belt the stars finally align for Kim, sitting at #1 on the Billboard 100 and with major label support, Kim finally announces the lead single to her debut album, the Max Martin produced If Jesus Was A Rockstar. This single is a car crash, a complete mess. Completely abandoning her dance pop roots in favour of folk pop, this single becomes the worst performing song of her career so far. This debut album doesn't materialise. Course correcting, Kim returns a few months later with brrr, a lab-produced hyperpop track built in the late SOPHIE's image. brrr fails to perform commercially. Kim & Republic give it one last shot, enlisting the help of Nicki Minaj and a heavy dose of sampling in her next single, Alone gives Kim her first lead artist placements in mainstream charts at #55 in the US and #37 in the UK. Finally, after six years since her debut, Kim announces her "debut" album, Feed The Beast. Feed The Beast arrives to poor commercial, critical and fan reception, with many criticising its lack of cohesion and artistic direction, ultimately becoming Kim's least successful body of work. Kim releases once-scrapped Problematique as her second studio album a number of months later to an audience that isn't really watching anymore.

Is Kenya Grace (Strangers) here to stay?

The UK based electro pop singer and producer scored one of the biggest hits of 2023 with her instant global smash “Strangers”, released september 1st. The song is currently in the top 5 on Spotify Global and at #1 in most European countries after it blew up on TikTok. She signed to Warner Music last summer and only has 4 official singles out. Do we think she has potential to become a future MPG? or is it giving one hit wonder energy?
  15. "You speak to me and in your words I hear a melody But in the twilight it's so hard to see what's wrong for me. You sing to me, too bad you couldn't even stay on key If real life is such a mystery why don't you just stick to acting? Oh, here we go again, you couldn't find my number until when You thought that you could get to my best friend (Selena) Without a script your game is lacking"

  19. Seems like the GP & Travis stans love his work too much to hang it up. Be honest, a lot of y'all would be 2 weak-willed to chuck it up dueces if ur fave did that.. And y'all let's stick with the hypothetical. Let's assume your fave, even if it's out of character, did what Travis did. Would u unstan? Why or why not?
  20. Which alter ego is winning in a rap battle?
