base talk Does "Run The World (Girls)" Prove Performance/Promo > Charts for Longevity?
BOOMBAYAH posted a topic in Base
The way it peaked at #29 but she didn't give up on it and preformed/promoted it everywhere, and now it's a staple...should the new girls take note and not give up on a song because it underperforms on the charts? -
theres a lot of rumors and theories surrounding this topic. I know azealia banks practices santería and lana called herself a witch, but who else could also be a practitioner of the dark arts?

After the smash era of "Jagged Little Pill", the GP wanted more. Alanis would go on to release this as the lead single of her long awaited follow-up era "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" She recorded the song after an inspirational trip to India It reached #1 in Canada, #3 in New Zealand and became her biggest peaking single in the UK peaking at #5, while peaking at #17 in the USA (reaching #2 on radio). The music video features Alanis nude through the streets "Basically, I had never stopped in my whole life, hadn't taken a long breath, and I took a year and a half off and basically learned how to do that. When I did stop and I was silent and I breathed... I was just left with an immense amount of gratitude, and inspiration, and love, and bliss, and that's where the song came from, you know."

base talk What other female artist could pull off a 80M+ album debut on Spotify Global
KatyPrismSpirit posted a topic in Base
So far only Taylor Swift has managed to achieve this feat with folklore, Red (Taylor's Version), Midnights and Speak Now (Taylor's Version). She will most likely also do this with 1989 (Taylor's Version). Do you think any other female artist is able to pull off a big album debut in the future? So around 80M+ -

Rachel Zegler was recently spotted with a Chromatica phone case, and previous praised Gaga as her inspiration. Rachel’s West Side Story co-star Ariana DeBose praised Gaga after winning the Best Supporting Actress Award at SAG, before eventually winning the Oscar. Rebecca Black cited Gaga and Madonna as her two biggest inspirations on her debut album, and said Gaga & Katy were two of the only artists to support her during her ordeal with Friday going viral. Jenna Ortega also praised Gaga, and her dance spurred Bloody Mary to become a viral hit. What about Gaga is connecting with Latinas?

base talk Did One Of Your Girls make you cry? Queer Nocturnal Pop done right?

Troye has once again gifted the world with a heartfelt and soul-stirring song that encapsulates the queer experience and the universal emotion of longing. With his latest release, Troye manages to weave a narrative that resonates deeply with those who have experienced the joys and struggles of unrequited queer love. Why do you think Troye has perfected the Nocturnal Pop genre and in a way has come out as Robyn’s heir apparent in merging pop sensibilities with emotional yearning. The lyrics are poignant and beautifully crafted, reflecting the vulnerability and authenticity that Troye has become known for in his music. The pining for connection, the search for a love that feels genuine, and the yearning for something more are emotions that everyone can relate to, making the song a powerful and relatable anthem for the gheys and the GeePee. -

The comment section. The GP understands that Sam doesn’t sound good on the song, so why doesn’t Atlantic? Edit: Including the snippet with just her since you can barely hear her over the loud ass noise coming out of Sam’s mouth

She's So Unusual is the debut studio album by American singer and songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released on October 14, 1983, by Portrait Records. The album is primarily new wave-based, with many of the songs being influenced by synthpop and pop rock. Upon its release, the album received positive reviews from music critics, who noted Lauper's unique vocals. Lauper earned several awards and accolades for the album, including two Grammy Awards at the 27th Grammy Awards, one of which was for Best New Artist. She's So Unusual peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 chart and stayed in the chart's top forty for 65 weeks. It has sold over 6 million copies in the United States and 25 million copies worldwide. This makes it Lauper's best-selling album to date and one of the best-selling albums of the 1980s. In 2003, She's So Unusual was ranked at number 494 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and it subsequently placed at number 184 in a 2020 reboot of the list. In 2019, the album was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

“Knew I was a robber first time that he saw me” are the actual lyrics of the opening track to Taylor’s best album. I always thought it was “ME! I was a robber first time that he saw me.” I will be singing the incorrect lyrics until like a vendetta. Yours? Are you a lyric revisionist too sometimes?

Every new girl is either doing the songwriter aesthetic or appealing to Eurocentric crowds, but what about the vocal girlies? Ariana and Adele represented for the 10s, Mariah, Xtina and Leona Lewis dominated the 00s, will there be a vocalist to take shape this decade? -
What are the LOWEST points in pop/mainstream music in your opinion? Here are a few that stand out to me tbh: The Murder on my Mind song actually charting that one time in 2017-18.
