base talk ‘Last Night’ ranks among top 25 biggest Hot 100 hits in 7 months. Fraud?
Miley Cyrus posted a topic in Base
I just checked the overall streams for it on Spotify it’s barely scraping 600M streams after being such a monster “smash” hit. YouTube views for this song is in the dumps too. Are artists really doing numbers like that on Apple Music? -

base talk Will DL3 solidify Dua Lipa's legacy in pop culture?
KatyPrismSpirit posted a topic in Base
Dua Lipa has consistently been a driving force in the music industry, showcasing her evolution as an artist from her debut LP to the massively successful and acclaimed Future Nostalgia. With her third album on the horizon, which is rumored to embrace a more mature, psychedelic, and 70s-inspired sound, it raises the question: could this be THE defining moment of her career? This upcoming album promises to be a significant departure from her previous work, pushing the boundaries of her artistic expression. Will she once again prove her ability to craft a cohesive body of work that not only resonates with her audience but also leaves a lasting mark on the ever-changing landscape of pop culture? Remember that when talking about a solidifying moment, i talk about aspects like: critical acclaim, influencing your peers, pop-cultural impact, defining moments in an artist's legacy, being referenced in later works down the road. etc. -

base talk Beyhive Member Revokes Disposition Against Taylor Swift
PoisonedIvy posted a topic in Base
I know this isn’t “viral” so hopefully it doesn’t get closed but I think he brings up interesting points of discussion. He just started listening to Taylor this weekend basically and comes clean about having a predisposition against her because of the person the media has always portrayed her to be, feeling like there was no way he could relate to what she sang. He states that he was wrong for that and now regrets it. What’s interesting is the interview of Beyonce that he interlopes throughout the video. She talks about how an artist’s publicity should not affect the way an audience perceives the music, but he admits that he didn’t recognize he was doing that with anyone until he reanalyzed his relationship with Taylor and her music. If you’ve got a minute to watch I’d love to hear your thoughts Some of you could learn a thing or two from Beyoncé’s words about removing your biases about the artist as a “person” (whom you will NEVER truly know). -
base talk Who pushes more boundaries in music: Caroline Polachek vs Rosalia?
fememeist posted a topic in Base
I thought this would be an interesting comparison between two artists who may seem completely different linguistically, but I think they push and occupy a lot of similar spaces in pop music, especially with like experimental sounds and what not. Who do you think is the better artist? Who had the better discography? -

So Beyoncé and JT kind of owned the charts… But we also saw hits from the likes of Fergie, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, Xtina, JoJo, P!nk, Shakira, & Gwen that year… Who was THE 2006 moment?

base talk Why haven’t A listers said anything about the Israel-Gaza conflict?
mrpartyrocker posted a topic in Base
Why isn’t Taylor saying anything? She is currently the biggest celebrity in the world and her tour had a massive impact on economy according to her fanbase? She clearly has a bigger platform than Selena Gomez or Gigi Hadid, yet she chooses to ignore everything!!!! What about Lady Gaga or Rihanna or Adele or Beyonce who most recently wrapped up the biggest female world tour as of yet according to her stats? why do we choose to crucify the people who said something, showed compassion, but we ignore the ones who stay silent and don’t want to spread awareness? -

base talk Most influential musical artists of 21st century so far?

Who are they? -
I am noticing that Billie and Olivia's career trajectories seem to be an exact mimic of Taylor and Gaga's. The analogy is: dont smile at me = Taylor Swift WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO? = Fearless Happier Than Ever = Speak Now SOUR = The Fame/Monster GUTS = Born This Way Each comparison explained: So do you agree? Will BE3 be Billie's RED (success uptick and acclaim peak) while OR3 is Olivia's ARTPOP (career keeps going downhill). Discuss.

base talk Brandy's Love Again more streamed than any song from Xtina's last 4 albums.
Bey_Rihstan posted a topic in Base
Shocked? I sure was upon finding out this news Love Again - 74,000,000 (2019) Fall In Line - 72,000,000 (2018) Pa Mis Muchachas - 31,000,000 (2021) Your Body - 64,000,000 (2012) Just a Fool - 50,000,000 (2012) Surely collabs with huge streaming acts like Demi Lovato, Ozuna & Becky G would help garner more attention to Xtina's recent singles? It seems we have to dig ALL the way back to the mid 2000's to find a track from an Xtina album with more streams. Mind You, all of these Xtina songs have high profile performances, unlike Love Again which doesn't even have a Music Video. Why is Brandy planking on Christina like this? Can a Fighter let me know? -

i dont even stan marilyn manson like that, i only like a couple of his hits but the music video to the beautiful people might be my favorite of all time. i still don't understand how they made a couple of the shots -- so so good

Starts at 9:58 Xtina is asked about Britney's memoir and as usual she gives a very condescending response, saying she hopes everything is "all good" with Britney....to me it seems like Xtina looks down on Britney and thinks of her as mentally unstable. Pretty harsh for someone who grew up in the industry alongside her. I can't think of any reason that Xtina would hate Britney so much, she never did anything to her besides respond to her negative comments. You'd think at some point they'd find their way back to appreciating each other. What do you think of their relationship in 2023?

base talk Artistic direction(s) you weren't here for at first, but now appreciate?
BrentB posted a topic in Base
What are some artistsic directions that you weren't here for but have grown to appreciate overtime? Y'all are going to come for me but...dare I say I kinda appreciate the BTW original album cover now. I don't know what it is...it's kinda badass in hindsight ngl Also, recently I heard Single Ladies playing somewhere & it sounded like a jumbled mess to me for the first few years but now I get what Kanye was coming from tbh. I'm also beginning to appreciate the 2008-2009 sound. I used to be impartial about that time's sound & aesthetics but now hits like No Air, 3, Just Dance etc. are clicking for me for some reason. -

Seriously, who can potentially reach the height of the fame of MJ, Madonna and Britney anymore? Their impact, legacy and controversial is just something... fascinating, I might said. The world is just obsessed with them.- 249 replies
