base talk Which album by a YT artist would you be okay getting AOTY over a POC's album?
BrentB posted a topic in Base
This obviously isn't a thread to race-bait or attack any race & I apologize in advance if the title, or wording, in this thread is in poor taste. But it feels like there's no other way around being super blunt if we're gonna get to the meat & bones of this tired-ass argument & dead it once & for all. There seems to be this occurring narrative that often anyone that expresses grievances of an AOTY snub of a POC over a YT artist, gets accused of "making it all about race" or bashing "white artists" or simply being bitter. But I want to make a thread specifically towards users here that are POC like myself. Are there any AOTY winners of the past few years or decade that went to a white artist - over an artist that is a POC - that you feel was deserving of its win? Is Midnights, Harry's House, Folklore & heck even 25, deserving of their wins? If not then which albums by YT artists, even ones that were not ever nominated, would you be okay if they won over the likes of Renaissance, SOS & Lemonade? Personally, if there are ANY albums out there which I would feel deserving won AOTY over any POC artist, if they were nominated in the same year as any of the recent past ones by POC artists, I would have to go with Dedicated, The Loneliest Time, and Disco (this early pandemic gem ). I may also even throw in 5SOS's Calm in there but that may be pushing it lbr. -

base talk What do u think Lorax would say about Taylor Swift now that she's known for her jets?
Kayseri Mantisi posted a topic in Base
What would Lorax say now? Was Taylor actually the protagonist villain "Once-ler" in the movie who was a money hungry singer that damaged the environment? Discuss. -
base talk Are you hyped for 'eternal sunshine' by Ariana Grande?
KatyPrismSpirit posted a topic in Base
yes, and? was in my opinion good but the track isn't really sticking with the GP and is already losing steam. furthermore, ariana is very silent... no interviews, no promo, no photoshoots and it was announced that she wont release more singles until the project drops in march. are you still hyped for eternal sunshine? -

"Love Is All We Need" from Celine Dion's risky 2003 electropop album "One Heart" She risked losing her adult contemporary fanbase by going pop route! -

I'll start. Joni Mitchell: 150 million She was never a huge album seller and didn't tour that often. Most likely, these are royalties from the use of her songs as soundtracks. Are we expecting a country cover of her hits? Björk: 20 million. On the contrary, she was always on world tours and in the public eye, and also starred in films. P!nk: 200 million. One of the biggest singers of the 2000s and 2010s, her tours have more than once been recognized as the largest.

base talk Will Taylor at the Superbowl Sunday be the cultural event of the year?
vale9001 posted a topic in Base
Even if i'm not american i have seen already millions of tweets, TV news moments and night shows jokes (even at the grammys) about the fly from Japan to the US the empress of pop could make to kiss his quarterback. The pre finals with tay tay invasion of the playing field touched a record breaking 57M viewers. All of this for some reason really touches the veins of americans from politics and sports to pop culture. Is a defyning pop culture moment for the books coming? Do you believe the 4chan conspiracy theories about the fact miss americana and the player will say they're gonna vote for Biden live after the kiss? Do you believe stan Twitter antis conspiracy theory She orchestrated everything just to say "buy TS11". She is a self declared Mastermind after all. Are you waiting for it? Let's hope the private jet won't have any problem -
As we know Taylor has written many songs about how she felt hurt, betrayed or saddened by the men that she has dated or been in relationships with. She has written some very scathing songs dating all the way back to her Debut album. With The Tortured Poet’s Department, it also seems like she is gearing up to completely drag Joe through the mud. Admittedly she has also written songs where she admits to being the one at fault but it doesn’t come close to the amount of songs where she feels like she has been the one who was treated wrong. Do you believe Taylor when she tells her story about her relationships that it was always the men who blew up the relationship? Do you believe she always paints a fair picture? Discuss.

What I’m trying to say is, I think the Grammy’s keep snubbing Beyonce (the most awarded artist) from AOTY despite her best efforts because it makes the status of achieving that award look unachievable so it keeps up the facade that it’s the end all be all of music and artistic merit Just a theory They’re obviously super racist Thoughts?

base talk voter from GRAMMYs: I voted Midnights for popularity & I don't take Lana seriously
Kayseri Mantisi posted a topic in Base
Thoughts? (the part of the title is on the AOTY section if you don't wanna read the whole thing) he also said the Karma remix was particularly awful on Best Pop Duo/Group Performance section. https://www.goldderby.com/forum/music/blind-ballot-2-grammys-2024/ -
But atrl told me she will never feature a female artist with strong vocals coz she does not want to be overpowered, how come Florence is featured in her upcoming album?

'Cause karma is the thunder Rattling your ground Karma's on your scent like a bounty hunter Karma's gonna track you down Step by step from town to town Sweet like justice, karma is a queen Karma takes all my friends to the summit Karma is the guy on the screen Coming straight home to me

If Taylor decided to drop a visual album for TS11 would it be her most popular release?
-
Are you surprised that Lana is not a featured artist on the new album, especially after her and Taylor’s public displays of friendship / arriving together at the Grammy’s?
-
The amount of hate this bop gets is so not fair Projected to be another #1 for her, it was released as the lead single of Damita Jo shortly after the Superbowl controversy, and stalled at #45 on the Hot 100, becoming her lowest peaking single in over 20 years since her 1983 single Come Give Your Love to Me, and began a string of underperformances for her. It has less than 1 million streams on Spotify, and has 272k YouTube views.
