  2. In April 2018, Cardi B became an international phenomenon by releasing one of the biggest debut albums by a female artist in history. Snatching 2 Diamond Certifed #1 Hits, a gaggle of multi-platinum features and collabs and becoming the first woman to win Best Rap Album, the most prestigious award in music for a rapper. During this time she has successfully ventured into fashion, business ventures, films and television projects. Her mini arena tour in 2019 grossed $1 Million a night. She has accumulated over 100 Million Certified Units in the USA alone. With only ONE studio album and less than 20 officially released singles, why haven’t any of her peers with multiple albums (Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Saweetie, City Girls, Bia) surpassed her?
  3. This classic!! It featured 6 singles including the iconic "All I Wanna Do" which propelled the album to #3 on the Billboard 200 It's certified 7x platinum in the USA and reached top 10 in 20+ countries and was among the 25 best sellers of 1994 in Europe - global!

  7. Katy Perry deserves a VMA Vanguard Award for her groundbreaking music videos that have pushed not only creative boundaries, but also the way how music videos get produced and create entire worlds. Her music videos have been top tier for a decade and she always slayed in the music video field. She elevated the production of music videos to a whole other level during her reign (Teenage Dream & PRISM videos) and she has some of the most viewed music videos of all-time. Her music videos still resonate with various audiences, and her influence in shaping pop culture trends over the years is apparant in her videography. Her iconic videos include the recreation of the entire Candy Land, fought a battle in the Marines, became Queen of the jungle, alien on another planet and quite literally made herself into a whole feast among so many other insane ideas. In conclusion, her contributions have left an indelible mark on the music industry and the ways how music videos are being produced and deserve recognition. Can Lizzo bounce back from this?

Whether she's guilty or not, seems like the world has already made up its mind - she's officially cancelled. And knowing how cruel the industry is to female artists- most especially to black, plus sized female artist, imo, I don't see a bounce back happening for Miss Maam. Thoughts?

My Ray of Light First Listen

So I just listened to Madonna’s highly acclaimed “Ray of Light” album for the first time in full yesterday (of course I had heard Ray of Light title track and Frozen before). I didn’t expect anything less than excellence but I just wanted to share some of my first thoughts and invite some additional discussion from anyone else who wants to chime in Drowned World/Substitute For Love: What a beautiful song. I try not to read any background info on songs I’m hearing for the first time so my initial interpretation (and additional prior knowledge of her) is that this is a song she wrote about how giving birth changed a lot of her outlook on the world and her own life, the lives of others etc? What a beautiful serenade to a firstborn. But the way she takes it a step further with Little Star later in the album I’ll get there in a sec Swim: maybe one of my top tracks on the album. It’s got such a cool vibe to it * love the lyrics and the production so so much, and what a timeless song. Still relevant to this day ROL: I’ll be honest and say I’ve never really connected with this song much when I’ve heard it before. I do enjoy It a lot more as an experience with the album but it’s not necessarily in my top tier or anything. The third act of the song is by far my favorite though and it’s definitely very interesting ok the production front. Very forward thinking track and I do appreciate it even if I don’t love it as much as some of the other songs on the record Candy Perfume Girl: i haven’t heard Justified or Erotica but I know the gist of them and something tells me this would’ve fit a little better on one of those? It felt a little out of place but I’m not gonna pretend I didn’t enjoy it, it was dark and smoky and sultry and I enjoyed my listen. Skin: damn. This was GOOD. Top 3 on the album for sure. I don’t even have the words for it. Nothing Really Matters: another, possible, top 3 on the album for me. It’ll take a few more listens to know for sure but I loved everything about this. A true work of art. Sky Fits Heaven: this one took a second to click but when it hit, it HIT!!! This might be the best song on the album but again I need to hear again to be sure. Shanti/Ashtangi: talk about hypnotic. I was truly mesmerized. Beautiful track. Reminded me a little of a song from the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club — Within You Without You. Nothing like white people borrowing cultural elements from eastern cultures Frozen: actually this is DEFINITELY the best song on the album, Sky Fits Heaven can be #2. My god. The STRINGS alone create a feeling of desolation and melancholy that still haunts me even now just thinking about them. Jesus. An all time favorite song of mine, instantly, especially within the full listening experience of this album. The Power of Good Bye: don’t crucify me but it’s maybe the weakest track for me? It’s still really enjoyable and a SOLID track though, plus it’s an exceptional follow up thematically to Frozen. Like, don’t get it twisted — even if I don’t come back to this song much (which I’m not sure if I will or won’t yet), it is definitely a good addition to the album. To Have and Not to Hold: another track on the “”weaker”” end of the spectrum for me but still good enough for an album that has clearly proven itself to be top tier. Even the weaker tracks add to the listening experience so I can’t be upset, it’s not like they stand out as bad or take away from the experience. Little Star: y’all. I started crying. Legitimately made me so emotional. Like I laid in the dark in my closet for awhile and just sat with the emotional reflection of the love a mother can have for her child. I wanted to call my mom immediately after this but it was like 3 in the morning so I didn’t wanna wake her lol. Damn though. Superb track. Stunning. All compliments to everyone involved in that. Mer Girl: i need to hear this again I was too busy sobbing to Little Star and didn’t really process anything at all about this song Ok, sorry if this is kinda long but thanks for reading, if you did. Let me know you guys thoughts on the album if you want
  16. Honestly one of Katy's best sings, I absolutely adore it. It is so contemplative and mellow. A very interesting song to come at the end of her gargantuan era, and I particularly like the juxtaposition in her lyric video - which tracks her achievements and triumphs during the TD era, against the actual poignant lyrics denoting a fall, and about letting go of something good. It has a very somber effect overall, despite some of the lyrics seeming generic break-up ballads one. (Very unfortunate this is produced by Puke, sadly.)
