What truly makes a song timeless?

Well? What is the true secret behind this? It can’t always be just a good song since not all good tracks are considered to be timeless.

    Katy's 10th #1

This sounds very similar to Dark Horse, but DH reached #1 around winter early 2014. The actual song Black Widow released around July, but was blocked from the top spot later in the fall by All About that Bass and Shake it Off. However, with a high profile feature like Katy instead of Rita Ora, I feel like the song could have raced up the charts more quickly before Shake It Off arrived while not competing with Dark Horse (which was out of the top 10 already by the summer I think).

Longest Charting Female songs in Germany

Germany is the biggest market in mainland Europe (rivaled the UK at one point) and top 5 WW. I only included digital and streaming era songs because it’s unfair to compare to the CD era. When cds reached 20 weeks max. Rolling in the Deep (Adele)- 84 weeks Poker Face (Lady Gaga)- 77 weeks Bad Guy (Billie Eilish)- 66 weeks Good 4 U (Olivia Rodrigo)- 60 weeks Cheap Thrills (Sia)- 55 weeks Anti-Hero (Taylor Swift)- 53 weeks Dark Horse (Katy Perry)- 50 weeks Only Girl In The World (Rihanna)- 48 weeks Halo (Beyonce)- 46 weeks Flowers (Miley Cyrus)-41 weeks Dear Mr.President (P!nk)- 39 weeks Don’t Start Now (Dua Lipa)- 39 weeks Say It Right (Nelly Furtado)-36 weeks Video Games (Lana Del Rey)-33 weeks Royals (Lorde)- 33 weeks Woman (Doja Cat)-30 weeks
  10. Frankly, I'm not a fan of 1939, it's one my least fav Tay albums so I don't really care about the newly released re-recording. RePUTA, however, wasn't able to truly shine because she was still in her backlash era in 2017 after the internet folks and the Kardashian family tried to end her. And now, rePUTA is the next in line to be released and I think the hidden gems on that album will get their time to shine AKA I Did Something Bad and Getaway Car, and if (when) she plays her cards right and rePUTA will get the new heights of success it rightfully deserves! Just thinking about the new cover art of the album makes me feel so excited

    Is Rihanna a movie star?

Given that, for example, her fans shout that Lady Gaga is now a “movie star” because she was in one averagely successful film at the box office, does this make Rihanna one too? With a box office gross in excess of 1 billion across her credited movie roles, well above what Gaga’s films have grossed, and several award nominations, is it time to admit Rihanna is the true princess of the silver screen?
  13. I'm trying to recall another era that was so risk-taking for an artist's career in terms of their image and career but I fear i'm coming to a blank. From shaving her head, cussing out her fans, disregarding her previous albums, revealing herself as a n*zi sympathizer, boyfriend exposés, 4 minute singles, demonic and illuminati allegations, and there's probably more. Is Doja Cat's 'Scarlet' Era the riskiest image/marketing shift for an artist since ARTPOP? Discuss.
  14. Performing all these deep cuts of folklore and Midnights but not even cardigan?! She made other questionable choices but cardigan being ignored like that was dirty She nailed the choices with evermore - tolerate it and champagne problems were amazing choices Performing 1 song from her magnum opus Speak Now and multiple from self-titled No State of Grace or Getaway Car and Bad Blood over Wildest Dreams?! Still loved the film!
  15. Top 3 in Jack Antonoff’s songs
  16. The debut studio album from singer-songwriter, model, and actress Sky Ferreira (and as of today the only studio album from the starlet) is now 10. Night Time, My Time received acclaim from critics at the time, and has since been listed among the best albums of the 2010’s. The album is regarded as one of the best ever from an alt pop girl, with palpable influence to this day. The album spawned the singles “You’re Not The One” and “I Blame Myself” along with multiple fan favorite tracks like “Nobody Asked Me (If I Was Okay)” and “24 Hours”. The album pulled from an eclectic range of genres and influences, from electropop, grunge and indie rock, and was released after Sky completed around three or four albums worth of material. What is your favorite track from the magnum opus?
  17. Her most haunting ballad sonically speaking

    GUTS era: what happened?

Back in 2021-2022, Olivia came out with SOUR, a massive album that became a huge cultural phenomenon and made her a megastar pratically overnight. It quickly became one of the most streamed female albums of all time and gave her several massive hit singles. She seemed untouchable and people were quick to call her the new Taylor Swift. Everything was going right and her follow up album also seemed destined to do similar massive numbers. Now, in 2023, GUTS came out and, while not a flop per say, the album is nowhere near as big as SOUR was and she's been overshadowed by Taylor herself who arguably had the biggest year in her career. Vampire, while a decent hit, was nowhere near as big as Driver's License and Good 4 You were. And none of the other GUTS singles really made any impact whatsoever. So what happened exactly? Why did she went from "new Taylor Swift" to just another female artist who's more moderately successful, while several other female artists ended up massively overshadowing her? What went wrong? Discuss.
  19. Her sophomore album Never Say Never was HUGE for a R&B girl, pulling over 16 million units worldwide. The Boy Is Mine is an undebatable classic with massive numbers. Asides from her smash hit album, she has had a very consistent career with her debut selling over 6 million copies in 1994 while Full Moon (2002) and Afrodisiac (2004) were also certified by RIAA as platinum and gold. Her legacy in her retrospective genre R&B is very significant as well, as she is regarded as 'the Vocal Bible' by numerous publications. Although she did exceptionally well for an R&B girl, is her career comparable to the MPGs of the time like Britney, Beyonce, Xtina, Alicia, Avril, Shakira, JLo and others? Discuss.
  20. Tik tok made music executives belive that only songs under 3 minutes can become big. That basically killed bridges and any creative nuances in songwriting when it comes to pop. But both PTTR and Agora hills are "long" like classic pop hits from the past. Is Doja doing god's work and saving us from dumbed down music?

    1989TV is security protected

I purchased my copy today. I noticed that Taylor’s albums (not just 1989) are the only ones security protected in the store. Our capitalist queen is making sure no one will steal her works of art. Lol!

What was Britney's Circus era like?

I was very young when it happened so I don't have any memory of it. What was it like? I'd love to read detailed experiences and stuff about it
  23. I for one, love that Britney picked one of her most underrated songs as the title of her memoir Truly one of her best sings, the breathtaking video, the Dido energy Some of the lyrics are so eerie looking back But now I know, that life doesn't seem to always go my way There is no need to protect me I've seen do much more than you know now So don't tell me to shut my eyes But if you look at me closely, you will see it in my eyes This girl will always find her way...
  24. Do you like her? Do you see the appeal?
  25. I mean, look at the material
