  1. Before Chained to the Rhythm by Katy Perry was marketed as the new subgenre "Purposeful Pop" in light of the American elections, it was actually been said that Madonna had explored on the Purposeful Pop genre through her lead single for the Hard Candy album. 4 Minutes stands out as a quintessential example of Purposeful Pop, seamlessly blending a catchy pop beat with a powerful environmental message. The song urged urgency in addressing climate change, utilizing its infectious rhythm to engage listeners in a call to action. By effectively marrying entertainment with advocacy, Madonna's hit served as a potent catalyst for raising awareness about the pressing need to protect our planet. The song, initially named "4 Minutes to Save the World", was one of the last to be produced for Madonna's album Hard Candy. In an interview with MTV News, Madonna said that the concept of the song was developed through discussions with Timberlake. She further explained the meaning of the song:

I was told Shakira is the biggest Latin act ever, so it should !
  4. Her final Hot 100 hit - it peaked at #76 on the Hot 100 and #4 in Canada. Released as the lead single of her 2004 era So Called Chaos What I resist persists and speaks, louder than I know What I resist, you love no matter how low or high I go And you're still here... The music video, guitar melody and lyrics are so beautiful
  5. Have you ever been to a party, or a club and a MPG song (that was curated to be a dance club or rhythmic staple) was playing? Did the song trigger HYPED up screams followed by streams of party-goers FILLING the dancefloor, or did it have the opposite effect ? I don't normally go to parties or clubs, but If my memory serves me correctly, Work (by RihRih) was an understandable dance floor ELIXR at a 2018 wedding reception I attended.

  8. Disney icon. NBC Universal icon. A celebrated voice. Sublime musical artist. What a fantastic interview. Mandy needed to receive all of the love and flowers from Matt and Bowen. She's always been a bit shy about the early years of her career. She deserves the world.

Why are Madonna's flop era's successful?

Back in the 90s, and sometimes even now, Madonna's Erotica and Bedtime Stories albums are often labeled flop album. But when looking at the stats, are they really flops? Here's what each era accomplished. Erotica -Lead single debuted at #2 on the Radio Songs Chart, the highest debut ever. A record it still holds today -Erotica debuted at #13 on the Hot 100, and peaked at #3. This was the 5th highest debut at that time and only had half of week worth of tracking -The Erotica single was included in the sex book, which sold crazy amounts. This hindered sales of the single, which affected it's chart performance -The album debuted at #2, missing the top spot by less than 3,000 copies. It spent over a year on the BB200 and was certified 2x Platinum, despite all the controversy -The second single, Deeper and Deeper, also peaked within the top 10 on the BB Hot 100 -The Sex book, which caused the album to suffer, sold 150,000 copies in it's first day alone in the United States for $50 a piece -The Sex book sold 700,000 copies worldwide on it's first day, and 1.5 million in a few days -The Girlie Show was the third highest grossing female tour in the 90s, with only 39 dates (in comparison, the second highest had 255 dates) -The Girlie Show has the second highest concert attendance in Brazil with a crowd of 120,000 people, behind Tina Turner's Break Every Rule Tour Bedtime Stories -She had I'll Remember just a few months before the album was released, which peaked at #2 for four weeks and was one of the biggest hits of the year -Secret peaked at #3 and made two Billboard Hot 100 year end charts -The album initially underperformed in it's first few weeks, but ended up going 3x Platinum in the United States, surpassing sales of Erotica and I'm Breathless -The second single, Take a Bow, spent 7 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, her longest ever -Although the title track underperformed in the United States, the single peaked at #4 on the UK Charts, higher than Take a Bow and Secret! -Human Nature, Madonna's signature hit (in her mind), was also another top 10 hit on the UK Charts Something to Remember -This compilation was released just under a year after Bedtime Stories, which affected Bedtime's sales since both contained Take a Bow -Lead single, You'll See, became Madonna's first single to debut inside the top 10 -This album ALSO went 3x platinum, giving Madonna two back to back 3x platinum albums within a year during her "flop" era in the United States -Her label kind of screwed up the release of the future singles, but One More Chance was a nice UK hit, peaking at #11

    Lady Gaga's G.U.Y. turns 10

Lady Gaga's "G.U.Y." was released as ARTPOP's 3rd single 10 years ago today. The Zedd-produced song became a fan favorite from the album. Gaga released the self-funded video the same day, having filmed it at the famous Hearst Castle. She would then perform the song for the first time days later on her golden 28th birthday as the encore for her Rosland Ballroom residency before embarking on tour.

  18. The IFPI just released their annual Global Music Report and the recording industry grew for a 9th consecutive year and reached US$28.6 billion in global revenue in 2023. In their reporting, they dropped an interesting small bit of information: IFPI It is interesting, because when you compare the US & Canada's share of the global music industry in more recent years (which you can calculate based on the numbers derived from IFPI's annual reports and listed here) you find out that their share has actually significantly increased: 2010: 24.6% 2011: 28.9% 2012: 29.9% 2013: 32.6% 2014: 35.0% 2015: 36.0% 2016: 36.2% 2017: 36.9% (2018-2022: No data given) 2023: 40.9% Are you surprised to learn that from a music market/business perspective (and in relative terms), the US & Canada are actually more relevant & important now than they were ~10 years ago? It is to me personally, cause while streaming has helped the industry at large and worldwide, it seems like these two countries have benefited the most.
