we know there's lots out there that sell their soul and try to become something different with every new trend that arises just to sell more, so... which artists have been authentic to their brands since day one?
-
To quite honest I cannot describe Harry musically. Not even negatively. I regularly listen to him and can't even pick up on quirks unique to him that he isn't evoking from artist previously. Even Bruno Mars who's whole thing is retro music still sounds uniquely Bruno Mars. He feels like a placeholder artist despite his success. Like if Harry were to disappear musically would we even notice? Visually we may but that is the problem. What is so different about him and Charlie Puth or Shawn Mendes other than aesthetics. Since 2017 with his debut album it's like we've seen the finish line with him from the start The Next Bowie/Jagger and the machine pushed it but the journey to there has been denied to us so it rings a bit hollow.

base talk "Évidemment" (France 2023) by La Zarra removed from YouTube after speaking out
nadiamendell posted a topic in Base
Aparrently it has been removed from her official channel and the Eurovision channel suspiciously after she's been speaking out against Israel and the abuse and threats she has received during her time in the industry: "Guys, I received several messages, it seems that France Televisions removed my music video from my channel, which is still under Universal France's control. I guess they didn't like me revealing some of their practices! Well, we don't care about the clip, but the harassment continues! That's a shame, but for artists, when we're subjected to mental abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, threats to our careers, to our person, we don't have any resources and when we speak out, we get blocked in the industry. Imagine if I told everything, everything, everything, everything, I think it wouldn't fit in a post, it deserves a little book, don't you think?" More info here: -

base talk Nemo's mic feed from Eurovision showcases incredible vocal ability

Just found this from Tiktok The first high notes sound literally like Queen of the Night opera Also keeping great intensity in the rap part And that high vocal part towards the end when Nemo is spinning on the revolving platform is just heavenly -
Taylor Swift continues to outsell all the other current pop girls, and men as well. She hasn't had a single flop era either, with Lover being her least successful, but still managing to do better than most of our faves. Considering she debuted even before Katy and Gaga, and has still maintained massive success, is it safe to say that Taylor is a legend? EDIT: Lover is not her least successful era, Evermore is. Regardless, both were very successful, but still my bad.

base talk GUTS and SOUR outstreaming multiple recent MPG releases, Why?
burninredhot posted a topic in Base
so this is in no way shade to Dua or Beyonce (especially cuz she's been on top for 27 years now) but GUTS was deemed a flop on arrival last year and called a sophomore slump on here, then why is it pulling such stable numbers? Did ATRL and their theories about Olivia being a fad lose again? -
base talk Why doesn't "Deeper and Deeper" get the same love as "Hung Up" does?
Josh posted a topic in Base
This song is just so much more replayable to me than Hung Up and I love Hung Up. but Hung Up relies too much on the ABBA sample. Deeper & Deeper is one of her most adventurous dance songs and ATRL barely talks about it compared to Hung Up or Sorry -
These girls have always gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to vocal criticism, but who is the actual worst, and who is the better?

base talk Artists who wrote their best work while happy/in a good place?
glitch posted a topic in Base
A lot of artists' best works seem to be written when they're really going through it (bad breakup, depressed, lonely etc). The raw emotion gives people a lot more to discuss and tap into. Often when they're in a better place, the music seems to get more boring. Are there any examples you can think of when artists were at a high point in their personal lives and produced a great body of work? -
Having shared history with music managers in the 2000s, both Lana and Gaga later broke through the mainstream to massive commercial success after being signed to Interscope, with Gaga originally being much bigger Now in 2024, Lana has been nominated for AOTY, sold out Coachella and Fenway Pk and stadiums around the world, and Born to Die becoming once of the longest charting albums ever while GaGa is selling Nurtec Why did LaNa outlast GaGa?

base talk Cowboy Carter 6.8 M daily streams after only 5 weeks. Why?
Pinkbutterflies posted a topic in Base
Beyonces highly anticipated and promoted album(yes, her songs were heavily rotated and promoted on tiktok and social media) is only doing 6.8m daily streams after only 5 weeks. In comparison, lover, an album released almost 5 years ago is doing more streams than it daily. What is going on? Is it because people don't like country? Does Beyonce need to do more traditional promotion? What can she do so her next album doesn't flop like this?- 289 replies
