ultraviolence.xx Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 PART TWO harry styles - 'harry styles' of all my disappointments this year, i think this one is the greatest. this is the one i most wanted to like: the cover is gorgeous, the lead single sounded exactly like lana del rey's "black beauty," and the songs were touted as "psychedelic" and "pleading." (note to reviewers: slight delay on a vocal track does not make a song "psychedelic.") most of these songs i would be fine with hearing in passing, aside from the horrific "only angel," which ruins itself at the minute mark, and the obnoxious "kiwi." favorites: "sign of the times," "from the dining table" unfavorites: "only angel," "kiwi" miley cyrus - 'younger now' (i'm noticing that lots of my disappointment albums have the word "now" in them. might be best for the industry to avoid this word for a while.) my disappointment in this one was entirely my fault. "malibu" was mediocre, and i knew i had nothing to look forward to with this album, but "younger now" surpassed my expectations, and i began to wonder if the rest of the album could live up. spoiler alert: it didn't. dead petz was four hours long, but it felt way more inspired than this. favorites: "younger now" unfavorites: the rest sam smith - 'the thrill of it all' really? you're going to name your album "the thrill of it all" and make it sound like this? blech. the only song i could stomach and envision myself coming back to is "say it first," because the guitar sounded like something out of an xx song. the rest was entirely inoffensive and full of his abhorrent head voice. not even his take on gay persecution made me care. not even malay could help. next! favorites: "say it first" unfavorites: the rest p!nk - 'beautiful trauma' "beautiful trauma"? more like "entirely anodyne." even a sexy title couldn't give you the edge you're aiming for, p!nk. though i quite liked the vaguely-political lead single, "what about us," and bareilles-y piano ballad "you get my love," the rest of this pretty much stinks. "revenge," with eminem, is the worst max martin track i've heard in years. who thought that would slide? cheesy rap-singing, misogyny, and annoying repetitiveness do not a good song make. the rest of the album features of monsters and men ripoffs, songs about barbies, and simple love songs. what it does not feature is edge. or interest. or appeal. favorites: "what about us," "you get my love" unfavorites: "revenge"

Bubble Tea Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Miley certainly was a disappointment - that's all there is to it.
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 14, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 I kinda liked HFK and Younger Now. the rest is tea especially Sam Smith

Tom Vercetti Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I can't get over that sam smith album cover
Lazuli Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I wouldn't consider these albums (other than Younger Now) disappointments, but they are indeed far from the best they could do.
ManDown Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I don't like any of the Disappointments albums either so
theblackestday Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 All garbage in your disappointments when will my edgy ass?
Little Dark Age Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 whew the lashings I hated all of these album although I was not anticipating most of them
sumthintoxic82 Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 aww lol I LOVE Harry's album Younger Now doesnt deserve its hate...it does have its weak moments but it also has some great songs. The Thrill of It All and BT i love as well lol
Pedro Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Harry's album is completely hideous and, yes, the word to describe Miley's and P!nk's is disappointing yet, I like Sam's!

ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted December 14, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Omg, your taste >>>>>>>>>>>> Those 4 albums are exactly what I would pick for disappointing albums SOTT slayed me and I wanted so much more from Harold. Younger Now is the only good song on YN and it's a Sheryl Crow song. YGML is a P!nk standout (alongside the title track), but the WORST song is Secrets, which is legit one of my least fave songs ever. She needs to get back to the quality of I'm Not Dead and Funhouse.
rvx Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I disagree with some of your "disappoinment albums"
