Mura Masa - 1 Night (feat. Charli XCX)

 

This song truly deserved better and there was a portion of the year where I couldn’t go a full 24 hours without getting my life to this ethereal bop. Aside from being criminally underrated, it’s the most effortlessly cool and exciting EDM producer x pop girl collaborations since Snakehips, Tinashe and Chance the Rapper’s track ‘All My Friends’ from 2015.

Jorja Smith - Teenage Fantasy

 

It seriously took me forever to get into Jorja and I'm so mad at myself for not acknowledging her talent sooner. My friend recommended I listen to this song and I fell in love at the first listen. The lyrics are so me and reflect so many situations I've been in *heavy sigh*. 

 

On a more positive note, I really wanna see Jorja blow up next year (or whenever) when she drops her debut full length album. I'm so excited to see what's next for this girl.

I’ve never been a huge Selena fan aside from stanning her best song, Sober, yes I went there. This, Fetish, and Stained have me so hyped for SG2. I honestly hope she isn’t gonna be corny and scrap the entire album because it represented a time where she was with Abel... lmao. Anyway, I’m here for alternative/dark Selena and this deserves all the acclaim it’s gotten this year.

Ugghhhh yeessss THIS SONG!!!!!!!! Selena absolutely obliterated me with this song and video. It's so good! Ugh can't believe I had her pegged as talentless and an industry puppet when she's turning out to churn some of the year's best hit, song after song, and then really artistic, interesting videos. God damn I stan "Bad Liar." I DEMAND it to get a Grammy!

Zara Larsson - Don’t Let Me Be Yours

 

Looking back, So Good was so underwhelming aside from the singles and songs which we already heard. This song honestly didn’t do much for me at first and my unnecessary hate for Ed Sheeran didn’t help at all, but I finally saw the light. I wish we would’ve gotten a better video though... ugh. I literally don’t even understand the message if there even was one and she wasted some of her best looks on this mess.

I honestly thought he was never gonna top Caroline, but he did exactly THAT. It’s such a bop oml and the Spice Girl references  someone please make this smash so my boy doesn’t become a one hit wonder. The video is on point as well. I love Issa Rae and Mel B looks good as usual.

Louisa Johnson - Best Behavior

 

Tears is probably my most played song of the decade, so naturally I always anticipate new Louisa. So Good was... eh and I was ready to give up on the good sis, but she pulled through with this BOP. This song is honestly smash potential and I don’t even think it made Top 40 in the UK  Dua, Zara, Camila, and Alessia are lucky she’s on a ****ty label and Simon is literally saving their careers

I still can’t believe she was only 15 when she dropped this. We love a teen pop sensation that makes bops! She really did shake the alternative girl table with this song and tugged on a few wigs. Don’t Smile At Me is also one of my favorite projects of the year.

I’m really trying to keep this list at 1 song per artist, so we’ll just count this as a MØ song. I got Snakehips confused with Mura Masa for a sec.  Anyway, this song was everything to me at the beginning of the year and the video is so sad too and gets me in my feels. Best non-ballad ballad of the year
