Today's High Scores are the most interesting yet!  Kesha finally rises to the top spot with 17900 points! Her back-to-back entries (I lied when I said there was only one, sue me) gave her the edge she needed, and what makes this special is she's the ONLY artist in the whole TOP 25 to have another entry in the countdown. Just to let everyone know, not even a #1 and #2 entry back-to-back from a new entrant would be enough to beat Kesha at this point, but...crazier things have happened? The Top 3 is actually closer than its been for the last few days, with only 100 points separating #2 and #3, which is crazy considering how high the points have been and how many artists have multiple entries thrown into the mix. An interesting thing to note is that a #1 and #2 entry back-to-back WOULD be enough to get 2nd place, if only by 200 points. Is there any hope for a new artist to even get into the Top 3...? You'll just have to tune in to find out!

interestingly enough I didn't like Black Widow BUT I kind of hope Pristin include more "edgy" songs like that because it's funny to have that following a song like Wee Woo.

 

 

This update really did SNAP on the K-excellence.  I'm hoping any girl group does an edgy concept really I am TIRED of TWICE and their copycats flooding the charts.

Another day, another slay...just kidding, another day has passed and it's time for another Dancefloor Spotlight. This time, I am going to be honoring the only artist to have made multiple top 10 entries in my year ends as the years have passed, consistently having some of my favorite songs of the year. BTS, while growing in popularity in the US (proud of them!) have started to slip for me personally. I don't hate them by any means, and they still release at least one GREAT track a year, but this year, it just didn't seem to be enough to go Top 10. In memory of the Top 10 streak that ended, I'll be honoring every BTS-related song to go Top 10 on a year end of mine. BTS-fighting!

The only BTS songs I've heard this year are Not Today and Spring Day and neither deserves top 10 (or top 100 or top 1000 etc.) so maybe that's a good thing they missed it

Okay, so this is a country song…or at least for the purposes of this countdown, I’m counting this as one, but this has one of the best pop hooks I’ve heard all year??? Thanks to @feelslikeadream for playing this in a dubtrack room wayyyy back in December 2016 – this was the first song I added to my year end playlist, and I’ve been obsessed the whole year. A true BOP.

 

This is Lauren Alaina’s only appearance on the countdown.

#9: Kesha - Praying

 

 

Alright, so this song is a HUGE deal to basically any Kesha fan. It was Kesha coming out and proving to everyone what we, as fans, already knew from the beginning. We knew our girl could sing. We knew our girl could write. We knew our girl could show powerful emotions. Praying wasn’t a surprise to us. What WAS a surprise was everything that followed. Critics were praising her. The GP was loving her. She was seeing SUCCESS after being gone for 4 years when we thought for sure her career was dead. The success continued when she got her BEST SELLING ALBUM SINCE HER DEBUT. This wasn’t just a comeback, it was a resurgence. How can you not be proud of someone who looked at the monumental odds stacked against her from every corner, and absolutely triumphed despite it all. I was proud to be a fan in 2010 and I’m proud now. Kesha sparked my love for songwriting and I’ll always love her for that. <3 …Maybe I should’ve saved that for her last entry on the countdown, but this song was a perfect place to get the sappy stuff out.

#8: Kesha - Woman

 

 

So, if Praying is such an important song, why is it below Woman? Well…truthfully, if there was ever a tie in the countdown, it’d be here. I love Praying and Woman all the same, but what made me decide to put Woman above Prayingwas two things. One: I would listen to Woman casually more often, it’s more the type of song I usually listen to. Two: Praying won in real life, so I figured Woman could win somewhere. ♥ This song is just a fun, upbeat track that feels every bit as triumphant as Praying does. Luke didn’t take her talent and he didn’t take her light, neither. She still knows how to have fun and doesn’t need a pity party thrown for her. This is the Kesha many of us fell in love with way back when she was still the dumpster-diving glitter diva we knew in 2010, so it’s that reason why this song is every bit as important to me as Praying is.
