ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 12, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 UNORIGINAL'S BEST OF 2017 2017's 50 Best Singles 50 - 46 #50 Camila Cabello feat. Quavo - OMG Okay so objectively this is much much much less deserving of a spot on this list than most of my HMs. I was debating whether to put this on over most of the other songs but ultimately it's got more plays than them so I guess I enjoyed it more. This is Camila's best song so far imho and I'm pressed it was demoted (but I'm still including it on this list because of course) and I kinda really like pretty much all of this song. It's a really good trip-pop song and as a whole it works well. listen here #49 Becky Hill - Rude Love I've been a fan of Becky Hill since like 2013 and I've liked most of her stuff. I loved Losing and it's still probably my favourite song from her but Rude Love is brave, loud, brash (in a good way) and great. The song has that kind of aura that feels like it exudes confidence and owns the three minutes that it takes up. Becky's voice is obviously the centrepiece here but MNEK's production is pretty good too. listen here #48 Madison Beer - Dead A fun and kind of generic-but-still-good TropPopBop that grew on me the more I listened to it. My sister hates my music but she downloaded this and had it on repeat after I'd had enough of it so that can't be a bad thing either. It has a lot of the tropes from the tropical pop sound we've heard a lot of recently like the clicks and the wubbly synth that sounds like you're hearing it from underwater and it all works well together pretty effortlessly. listen here #47 Daughter - Burn it Down Burn it Down felt similar to what I'd imagine a Not to Disappear demo to sound like but in a good way. Think Daughter's version of Sufjan's Wallowa Lake Monster. Obviously this is one of the outliers on Music from Before the Storm as a whole but I do love it quite a lot honestly. It's definitely not as good as the singles from Not to Disappear (Doing the Right Thing would've been minimum top twenty last year) and as a theme song it embodies what I'd imagine it feels like to be in Chloe's shoes but with a Daughter flair of depression added to it of course listen here #46 Halsey - Now or Never Halsey is kind of suffering on here in the same way Demi did in the honourable mentions list. Neither Bad at Love nor Now or Never are personal favourites on hopeless fountain kingdom (though they're the obvious singles) and a different song as a single would have probably lifted Halsey on this list. I was debating which song to place on the list and I was going to go with Bad at Love but I think Now or Never deserves it more because it was kind of surprising to hear Halsey going down this darker R&B-tinged pop route when Badlands was mostly under the Born to Die-lite alt-pop category. I wasn't expecting this from Halsey and it was a change in direction that paid off and this highkey deserves BaL's success. listen here this is kind of the tragic bit that I most expect people to disagree with, especially when compared to my HMs. I'll update the OP with a rundown in a bit and comment on everyone else's lists. 45-41 are tomorrow too so see you then
Tom Vercetti Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Now Or Never's saving grace is its Needed Me'd production and structure.
