theblackestday Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Hubris Quote 42. Maggie Rogers - On + Off 42. Marika Hackman - Boyfriend
bluth Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 ne-yo still releases????!?!? i'm slightly ambivalent about maggie at the moment but she has a few PUNCHES so i'm def rooting for her as she releases more material. omg can't believe i missed boyfriend. #regrets
Pink Matter Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Can't really speak on this last set you dropped Mabel is a cute girl though. I checked out one of her projects this year but it didn't catch my ear. May give it another shot.
SLIME Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Wow dunno too much from these guys But Sevdaliza I've seen all over the place so queueing hers now. Mabel and Maggie I been hearing about so those too
Maddox Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Thinking Of You was my jam last summer, wasn't too fond of her new stuff this year. Boyfriend is nice!
Wicked Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 46. Preacher (AMC) Quote Preacher is a mess, and I'm kind of at the point of giving up on it because of how inconsistent it is. But for the first half of season two, it was ON. It was just as lively as the comic series and flowed properly. Something got lost in the mix during the second half and I was already over it. Three times the charm? Maybe. But it didn't fail to draw some controversy, especially with it humanizing Hitler, it's depiction of Jesus Christ & more. This Action/Supernatural/Comedy hybrid might need someone else to step in to reign the elements together, but all in all it's still a blast. Best Episodes: 'Sakosha' 45. Animal Kingdom (TNT) Quote The TV adaption of the pretty damn great 2010 film returned for a second season that in some ways was better than S1, and some ways not. There's still the major issue of youngest brother Craig getting no development whatsoever. It stands out more when one brother is growing after accepting his sexuality last season, and another confronting his demons. Ellen Barkin as Smurf is still the center of the series even though she spends most of S2 trying to trap her children. TNT has been trying to change it's image, and this was the first drama series from them to get some sort of attention in that way. I'll stick around for S3, but hopefully they see what they have and make the needed adjustments. And Baz ****ing sucks, just a reminder. Best Episodes: 'Cry Havoc', 'You Will Be Gutted' & 'Betrayal' 44. Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter ([adult swim]) Quote Jon Glaser is a legend to fellow Comedy geeks, and he's quietly had 2 of the funniest shows on TV, turns out nobody was watching them :rip:. One of them, "Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter" is following a (surprise) Werewolf hunter as he goes through different towns that have reports of werewolfs; but in the end it's not even the werewolves causing issues, it's some other weird element. (sometimes aliens, sometimes "Elon Musk-esque billionaires") S1 was a bit better, bit funnier, but S2 was just as outlandish + fun. Jon has even made a whole new set of vocabulary for this show, and anytime he says 'Heyump' I die. There's no word on if this will be back for S3, but I hope so! Best Episodes: 'Rules of the Road' & 'Loose Lips Drink Sips' 43. Kingdom (Audience Network) Quote A spiritual sibling to Friday Night Lights, the Sports/Family Drama returned for a third, and unfortunately abrupt final season. It wasn't nearly as good as the second half of S2, which I'll firmly defend as one of the finest sets of television of the last few years, but it was nice. Death, redemption, midlife crisis & more were all tackled this year, but the main problem was a lot of things set up for a fourth season that ended up not happening. Nick Jonas honed his talents here with dynamite performers like Frank Grillo & Jonathan Tucker, but unfortunately his sub-plot (that should've been a main focus) was pushed to the side for smaller, irrelevant ones that evaporated within 2 episodes. There was a wonderfully cute cameo by Zach Gilford which if handeled a lot better would've been a big success. When it came time to end the series, they did go out with a bang, however. Alvey was always the main character of Kingdom, dealing with his mental health issues, drug addicted wife, his own ****ty relationship with his parent and as they say "The sons bear the sins of the father" Jay (Jonathan Tucker) & Nate (Nick Jonas) are "picture perfect" tortured souls. I'll miss this show if not for the performances, and when it was great the writing, but because we don't have any damn sport dramas! Best Episodes: 'Cactus' & 'Lie Down In the Light' 42. Speechless (ABC) Quote 'Malcolm in the Wheelchair' is a pretty apt alternative title for this heartwarming family sitcom. There's so many similarities to Malcolm In the Middle in terms of structure, and that is a great thing (I'll just take these parenthesis to promote Malcolm in the Middle as one of the greatest shows of all time, and you're missing out if you haven't seen it, it's on Netflix+Hulu. Go watch it. Right now.). Speechless follows a family like most other sitcoms but the twist is that at the center it's about a family dealing with a member who has a disability. Disabled americans are the least represented among all marginalized groups, yet Speechless does a great job of never feeling like an after school special. JJ is still as hilarious as ever, and Maya is still the best mom on TV (maybe). The second season hasn't reached the heights that the episodes of earlier this year did, but it's still good. Best Episodes: 'S-I--SICK D-A--DAY', 'P-R-PROM' & 'C-A--CAMP'
Eeveelution Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Nice to see some love for Boyfriend! Also stan for Mabel, though Bedroom isn't my fav from her.
Playa Playa Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Kingdom & Speechless The show doing Nick's character dirty after he improved his acting skills was JJ is so hilarious! I really enjoyed the past few episodes about Star Wars, college and Christmas. MITM praise and comparison is apt.
Maddox Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I was surprised at how quickly the boys turned against Smurf. I mean they had one failed misssion and suddenly she's evil and needs to pay up? And yeah Nicky and Baz are the worst, at least the latter got what he deserves.

Right, she's been evil lowkey though, and personally: Spoiler I think she had J's mother killed. Nicky is so ANNOYING Also the relationship with Craig is scust & unnecessary.
Mr Greenbird Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Looks like Speechless is pretty decent one, I dropped it after watching series premiere. Maybe better try again.
Wicked Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 40. Prince - Father's Song It's not really a 2017 song but, if you know me you'd know this would fit somewhere into my lsit. Just an instrumental really, but it's pretty great. The extended version of a short song that played in Purple Rain. I only put it this low, just out of principal. RIP. 39. Leikeli47 - Miss Me It's kinda sad Cardi was the only NY female rapper to blow up this year, but here's hoping Leikeli isn't far behind. Wash & Set was one of the years most vibrant & confident debuts, and this is one of the best examples. The beat goes, her bars go, her cadence goes, she just goes. Junglepussy remains shook. 38. Metro Boomin & Offset - Rick Flair Drip idk what to say other than it's one of the best rappers out with the best rap producer... with another hit. It bumps. "Rick Flair Drip go WOOOO on a bitch!" 37. Playboi Carti - Magnolia In New York I Milly Rock 36. Charlotte Dos Santos - Cleo Charlotte dropped a dope album this year, and this track reminds me so much of Erykah Badu for whatever reason so it had to be on my list. 35. Paramore - Hard Times Paramore actually came back to drop a very solid album but, idk. There weren't really any big standouts. I did love the first single however. From Hayley's vocal performance (as usual) to the sweet chorus. It was a great switch for them. 34. PRETTYMUCH - Would You Mind / Teacher / I'm ready to be dragged for these choices, but I'll defend both these songs as well done Pop music, something 2017 was lacking heavily. 'Would You Mind' is more reminiscent of 90s boy band affair (It reminds me a little too much of the best group, Backstreet Boys R&B-inspired tunes) except for a break towards the end which sounds more influenced by some R&B trends of today. We also need to acknowledge the dope choreo they do in the dance-focused version of the music video, since all I see is slander about Amurican groups being lazy, here's one that ain't! In the more modern-leaning 'Teacher' they come through with a woman empowerment anthem they encourage the lady to be in charge + make the moves. The video is fun + I love the vocals (same with WDM). I'll definitely be checking out their album/project whenever that may come. And before it's even said, in advance, if this was a girl group ATRL would be hardcore stanning already. 33. Tove Lo - shedontknowbutsheknows I know lots of folks don't really care for Tove Lo, but I do. she delivers, fairly consistently, good-great dance tracks. While 'Disco ****' is a major jam, this was the obvious highlight of the album. Tove plays the role of a mistress who dgaf that her guy is still with his girl Cheeky, but with that production all is forgiven. 32. Samantha Urbani - U Know I Know Rina kinda came and stomped on poor Samantha huh? She still delivered a solid EP but this gem is where it's at. I'm kinda glad she decided to make it a single too. 31. Janine - Never the Right Time Queen came back in the middle of my lists With a heater, one of the best voices in R&B these days, this track is more like the downtempo atmosphere she set on her debut EP. A silky track about lusting after a friend while she just got in a relationship + he just got out of a bad one and so... It's not the right time. She mentioned on Instagram she hopes babies are made to this song but it's definitely the type of Silky&B track to possibly get some people in the mood Hopefully her debut album will come out in 2018 like it's planned to, she still remains one of the top R&B prospects in recent memory. Hopefully her career is SZA'd and Tumblr thinks she's super deep + she blows up.
Wicked Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Later today: 5 EPs, more shows, first 5 films.

World Eater Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Always here for BAWPS! Rick Flair Drip, Magnolia, Hard Times and U Know I Know
Wicked Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 10. The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) [dir. by Noah Baumbach] I favor family dynamics in film, and Noah nailed it here. With a star studded cast, it's simultaneously funny but sad. Ben Stiller & Adam Sandler proving once more they are much more than most of their previous work would suggest. 9. The Big Sick (dir. by Michael Showalter) Pretty much a dramatization of how Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani & his wife Emily Gordon met. Kumail stars as himself, a Pakistani-American man looking to break into the comedy world. The film got a helping hand from Judd Apatow, so even though I'm not a rom-com person I gave it a watch. There's a lot of insight into the culture of Kumail's immigrant parents, and the conflict of him not wanting to be apart of religion, and wanting to date 'out', rejecting the women his family would prefer he be involved with. My biggest takeaway though is how great a writer Kumail is, and how great a director Michael Showalter (known for being a comedian) is. 8. Blade Runner 2049 (dir. by Denis Villeneuve) I suppose this is a bit low, but I wasn't as head over heels with it as most people. However I did like it. While the film still has it's set of problems (although, it's more of a 'Sci-Fi' problem, than a Blade Runner problem) this "high end" blockbuster was still a very mesmerizing watch. 7. Logan Lucky (dir. by Steven Soderbergh) A heist film from one of the masters of it, Logan Lucky is actually a lot more character driven than plot driven. It follows Jimmy Logan, a man who was destined to be a football star until he hurt his knee, needing money to fight his Ex, who wants to move to a completely different state with their daughter. His solution? Rob a race car driving event for legal fees with his brother Clyde (Adam Driver), sister Mellie (Riley Keough) & bomb expert Joe Bang (Daniel Craig). I'm in the small camp that also appreciated this film a lot more than Ocean's Eleven, also directed by Soderbergh. I also really want to point out that Channing Tatum is a great actor, and will have a very bright future! But the scene stealer here was Daniel Craig as Joe Bang. Mainly noted for his dramatic acting roles as our current James Bond, I was surprised by his timing & just how funny he really was. The film also had this, which is hands down one of the most moving scenes in any visual medium today: Jimmy Logan's daughter singing Country Roads in his honor.
