Feeling a quite bit of your album choices; Ulver, Blanck Mass, Actress. Wish u had more time with them.

Gorillaz didn't do as much as they could've for me.

Rose Elinour Dougall - Stellular

104407.jpeg

This is a wonderfully written dreamy pop album from a girl that was a member of the Pipettes.  No offense to their fans but they never were really any good tbh.  So this is better.  My one complaint is that sometimes the songs need more adventurous instrumentals cause it gets tiring near the end and *psst* boring.  BUT like I said the writing on the good tracks is really really good, so is the singing and vocals and lyrics.  Pass this album on to those who like obscure pop albums by nobodies.

Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds From Another Planet

07CHo8b.jpg?1

Japanese Breakfast takes an artistic light year sized leap forward with this album, completely decimating her last attempt just a year ago.  Love the alien/futuristic vibes she kept going on this album and they fit well with her viewpoint.  First half of the album is full of tens across the board!  I guess this was supposed to be some cosmos themed concept album but really all we got was  a spacey indie rock album.  O well I'll take it.

I feel the exact same way about Humanz. Mybe I would have liked it more if it was actually advertised as a playlist and not an album

Well, I'm decidedly higher on the Ulver album than you are, but at least we both agree that "Rolling Stone" is a highlight. One of the songs of the year for me.

You kind of took the angle that I was going to take with Humanz (it feeling more like a playlist than an actual album) right out from under me. Crap. :eli:

Japanese Breakfast :heart2: would place it higher myself but I'll take it

Marnie - Strange Words and Weird Wars

Marnie-Album-Artwork.jpg

This was a super super late discovery for me, but oh my gawd, I'm gonna spend a lot of time with it.  The Ladytron chick went from dreamy electroclash to a more upbeat, instrumentally diverse synth-pop album.  This album just has a little more attitude and personality than the last few Ladytron outputs and I feel like she's reborn as a singer.  G.I.R.L.S. and Little Knives are probably my favorite but it's a really consistent album.

i don't know why but this album a bit, just a bit gives me Sky vibes. and I could see her singing some of these songs. and also this album reminded me how much i miss this coke queens music.

I can kinda see it to be honest, it has that world weary vibe or something.

Sneaks - It's a Myth

104611.jpeg

I don't think I've ever heard an album like this before.  It basically has one type of bass and different rhythms the entire song and then repetitive weird chants about idk some things.  The vocal melodies are suuuper repetitive but the songs are almost all less than 3 minutes so it doesn't feel like it overstays its welcome.  Look Like That is the catchiest in my opinion so check it out.  It's very structureless and almost punk meets electronic music.  I'm not sure what to make of it or how to define it but I'm very intrigued in their future releases.  It's very very snobby indie kid tho so if you're not into that don't drag me and listen to something you're not gonna like!

Briana Marela - Call It Love

BrianaMarela.jpg

All of the dreamy songs on this album follow the same formula.  Bursting instrumentals and synth pop melodies that fade away into an ambient last minute.  It's a really cool trick and well I guess it works for the whole album!  Her voice is probably the weakest part of the album but I love the cute lyrics about heartbreak and all that stuff and love the quirky melodies and unique approach to songwriting.

Briana Marela's album was honestly kind of disappointing for me, I got bored pretty quickly :chick3:
