moonlight. Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 HyunA's EP was the best of her career so far, she's came such a long way
Uncatena Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Blue Hawaii the Little Dragon album was such a disappointment Baths, Kelly Lee Owens, Xiu Xiu and especially Kaitlyn were robbed tho
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I had a lot of expectations for Xiu Xiu's album but I didn't like it. As for albums I do like, I see Feel Infinite and Boo Boo. Sadly, none of them got too much replay value, so I don't think I'll place them on my lists.
Pedro Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Madonna, I thought you were into Pop music and, more recently, Portuguese music? I dont know those!
artangels Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Rina and yaeji snatching! Baths Kaitlyn and Ariel deserved better than honorable mention imo but great picks

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 #50 The Assassination of Julis Caesar So this used to be like a dark gothic metal band, and then they went synthpop with this release. It's sort of if Depeche Mode took a different career path after their prime was over and they went dark and abstract instead of more poppy/sassy. Overall it gets a bit repetitive but there are some great musical moments especially the two longest songs, they're journeys! Their vocal delivery isn't obnoxious or overwrought, it's just dramatic and believable enough!
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 #49 AOA - Angel's Knock This Kpop placement is basically me just confessing my love for the group. They're probably my favorite modern Kpop girl group. Uhm, it has at least 5 BOPS so its a good kpop album. The title track isn't even the best song, Feeling is!
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 oh I also had to edit another album into the HMs because I tooootally forgot to put and important album on my list thinking it already was there
moonlight. Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 yyaass AOA however i felt like the album was a step-down from their EP's. it had too much filler for my taste. but Melting Love, Excuse Me, & Bing Bing are too damn great that i dont blame you for just listing the whole album all together
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 #48 Anna of the North - Lovers Anna of the North gives us sad girl synthpop that does has a hint of optimism and hope in it. I'm struggling to say much about this album though, to be honest. It's catchy and a few of the songs have really amazing hooks. It's really so low because I KNOW it's nothing new or groundbreaking and it doesn't even try to be. But Fire and Someone, well, they just speak for themselves, and the rest isn't bad at all.
bluth Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 i'm listening to fire rn and it's a cute bop more albums pls!

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2017 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 #47 Blanck Mass - World Eater Instrumental electronic albums are actually really hard for me to listen to for some reason now, but I really tried to get back into them this year (kinda failed ngl). Anyway this one was really good, Please is my favorite song. It's "noise" but honestly, very hypnotic, and repetitive without getting too nauseating. It gave me dystopian but hopeful vibes, if that makes sense. Like beauty in the shitfest that is our ****ty world rn. Maybe somebody else can analyze this album better than me lol.
Vilppu Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Quote So this used to be like a dark gothic metal band, and then they went synthpop with this release. For some reason I can imagine it only as completely amazing or unlistenable, like no in between so maybe I'll listen. AOA are fantastic, easily my favourite of the younger groups too. Excuse Me and Feeling are definitely among its strongest but honestly the only thing that felt totally unnecessary was the boring closer.

Yeah its not like its groundbreaking or necessary lol but still a good album that is useful for more than one listen I just got called into work and have a bunch of HW so it'll be updated sporadically today, but obviously will get done by the end!

TheWayWeWere Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Didn't heard anything about that albums, but that Anna girl kinda interested me judging by Spotify previews
Tom Vercetti Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I will also have to see about Anna since she's getting some praise around here. I welcomed Ulver into their pop era even tho I like their ambient/metal past as well. Blanck Mass had a great year.
artangels Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 World Eater is amazing and it may snatch something...
SLIME Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I think u articulated the World Eater appeal fine, it was definitely beautiful in a way even through all the harsh ****. one of the best recent bleep bloop albums for sure didn't expect #50 but now i kinda wanna hear
