ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 19, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 19, 2017 Malibu + TMYLM
lhdang2000 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Demi starts at #41? And there are two more songs? Malibu + Symphony + 1-800-273-8255.
TayRianaPH Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 TMYLM hun, the taste is real! Symphony should've been higher though Malibu + 1-800 are cute too comment on my best of too hun
Mr.Link Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 TMYLM is one of the best pop ballads of the year, that's not even a question. Symphony though such a great song, I really thought Clean Bandit was lost until I heard that one.
MusicLoverDude Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 MLD's Top 100: 40 - 31 40. Taylor Swift f. Ed Sheeran & Future - End Game Taylor's first Top 40 entry has arrived, and it's the new single off Reputation. And the only collab she has on her album. Lol. Honestly, this is in my bottom half of Reputation. But when I get into this song it's pretty dope. Ed's part really gives me JT vibes but his flow is great. Future's part is whatever. He's gone pretty quick. This song is pretty funny actually. Hope this does well for her! Fourth of seven appearances by Taylor Swift. Only appearance by Ed Sheeran and his poop stained underwear. Final appearance by Future 39. Paramore - Hard Times The single that kicked off Paramore's era. I kind of slept on this for most of the year, but once I got into it, I realized how good this song was. It represents their transition well and still shows that Paramore still has that feel they inject into every song they do. And I guess I relate to this with how broke I am If only this had Top 40 success. Final appearance by Paramore 38. Zedd f. Alessia Cara - Stay Zedd's singles outside of I Want You To Know and Clarity lack the amount of magic those songs have. But Stay has so far been one of the closest to achieving that magic again, mainly because of Alessia's vocals on the chorus. The breakdown is ok but for some reason I managed to keep this song in my head for most of the year. Zedd and Alessia need to start new eras already. Only appearance by Zedd. Final appearance by Alessia Cara 37. Kelsea Ballerini - Legends Kelsea continues to be hit and miss with me when it comes to songs. This time, she hit it. Legends is by far her best single. You can tell how much Taylor Swift has influenced her songwriting and vocal delivery. She's probably the first person I can think of that has really been influenced by her this generation. And whenever she does use that influence well, it pays off because this and Peter Pan are her best songs and the only songs by her I have in my library. Only appearance by Kelsea Ballerini 36. Grey f. Avril Lavigne & Anthony Green - Wings Clipped Any new Avril music these days is something to get excited for and this collaboration was no exception. While not an official single, it definitely got the Avril fanbase's attention and in a way, it feels like a single so I don't really care. This song will hold us over until Avril's lead comes out. And her contribution to this song is nice. I don't really care for the male feature but he sounds ok at best. The rock dance breakdown was badass! Looking forward to Avril's new music in 2018. Only appearances by Grey, Avril Lavigne & Anthony Green 35. Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back Shawn Mendes always seems to know how to release singles that are catchy enough to make my Top 40 almost every year he has music out since he had his breakthrough. And this is actually his best single yet. That guitar is extremely catchy and it's the highlight of this song, and then his raspy and deep vocals just sound really sexy against that guitar. The song itself is just really sexy and is the best pop rock song I have heard in awhile. Only appearance by Shawn Mendes 34. Camila Cabello f. Young Thug - Havana I'm honestly shocked that Camila is smashing right now. I mean, Havana is her best song so far but I definitely didn't expect it to slay this hard. #2 in the US and #1 in Canada, Australia and the UK at least. It's insane. But hey, this song is just really catchy and she also did a great job with the video. Just enjoy the music and continue along. Bring it Camila. Final appearance by Camila Cabello. Only appearance by Young Thug 33. Dua Lipa - New Rules I wish ATRL didn't label this as the gay anthem of 2017. This song is catchy but because of that label it got super overrated on here. I didn't like this song at first but it did grow on me, especially the part where she recites the actual rules. I can see why this was the song that gave her the US hit. The bridge is anticlimactic though. And like I said, the fact that ATRL is labelling this as the gay anthem of 2017 really just makes this overrated. It's nowhere on the level of Run Away With Me (my #2 of 2015) and Into You (which I have now put as my #3 of 2016 after it finally got a lot of playtime this year when I wasn't feeling Everyday). This is definitely Dua's best solo song though. First of two appearances by Dua Lipa 32. Jake Miller - Good Thing Jake Miller is back one last time. And this song was pretty addictive for awhile this year. I could do without the music video though. Too many dudes have done that ****. Oh Jake, if only you actually had a mainstream hit or at least one Hot 100 entry. Warner Bros really ****ed him over. As they did Ashley Tisdale and Kylie Minogue before them. Sometimes that label is worse than Epic and Hollywood. I've been rooting for Jake since 2013 and it's sad that he has yet to even make a Hot 100 appearance. He seems to be getting over it himself based on his song Palm Blvd. I guess we will see what happens in 2018 with him. Final appearance by Jake Miller 31. Kesha - Learn To Let Go Been awhile since we have seen Kesha on this countdown. And it was time for another song by her to appear. Her penultimate appearance is Learn To Let Go. And I honestly prefer this song a LOT more than Woman. The song for me is a lot more relatable because this song can appeal to both men AND women. And both the production and Kesha's vocals are very powerful here and they keep me interested in listening all the way through. The bridge adds a very nice climax into the final chorus and an overall full circle. And the more I hear songs from Rainbow, the more I like Kesha now than I did during the Animal and Warrior eras. Third of four appearances by Kesha
Remmy Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 End Game is good but still in my 'rep' bottom 3 There's Nothing Holdin... Learn to Let Go New Rules, Stay and Hard Times Whew a trio!
potent Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Honestly not really a fan of this set, I'll check Kelsea though. Shawn
Mr.Link Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Hard Times is such a fresh and cool new song for Paramore Kesha's music has been at least 10x better than before but I find it kinda off putting that she keeps singing uplifting self empowering tracks, it's a little cheesy. I honestly expected Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello to be part of your top 5 thankfully they're not though #oop.

Didn't you predict NO would be in my Top 10 last year I feel like you're out of touch with my music taste just a tad
Αnt Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Malibu and Hard Times are my favs! Both underrated albums also.
JGibson Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 4/10 End Game + Legends + Hard Times + Stay
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 21, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 21, 2017 Hard Times, LTLG, Legends
TheWayWeWere Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 End Game would've been better as solo Stay is cute jam Havana and New Rules Learn to Let Go whew
Staryu Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Wow so many great choices this update LTLG, Havana, New Rules, End Game, Stay, Hard Times, Legends
Bubble Tea Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 End Game - talented, amazing, show-stopping, never the same, not afraid to reference or not reference. Ed's verse is HORRIBLE though - he cannot spit a lyric out quick to save himself. Havana - annoyed me at first but grew on me and now I love it. Later than a *****'s period but, ya'know. New Rules - an actual cultural moment. Any list without it is invalid. (kii it's not on mine but only cause I'm sooooo sick of it) Learn to Let Go - yaaasss! Queen Kesha! However I disagree about your post that "Woman" is not about men. Every song about women empowers men as well. There's this weird idea now that women and men are already equal, or that by women announcing how great they are, that somehow brings down men? That's so sick and insecure. Woman is purely about being proud to be who she was born as - everybody can enjoy that. LTLG is euphoric though.
MusicLoverDude Posted December 23, 2017 Author Posted December 23, 2017 next update will be tonight after work
Inner Insanity Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Whew a SET. Look at you serving taste. Kesha, Paramore, Zedd/Alessia. Havana has a great hook and that's undeniable. As much as I hate her voice that song is very catchy despite being a Same Old Love knockoff.
