MLD Album Spotlight

katy-perry-witness.jpg

Katy Perry - Witness

Best Tracks

1. Miss You More

2. Swish Swish

3. Witness

Worst Tracks

1. Pendulum

2. Power

3. Deja Vu

This is my least favorite album by Katy. While I do like most of the songs on here, they aren't songs I can listen to over and over again aside from the singles and a couple more album tracks. Both TD and PRISM had a lot more standouts and even OOTB had more standouts. That being said, It's not a bad album by any means. Katy is still being her, but the songs lack substance this time. It's still nowhere near as bad as ARTPOP or Britney Jean from 2013. And for the most part, most of the single choices have been on point. We will be seeing plenty of Katy in my Top 100 countdown later, so stay tuned for that.

Tomorrow I will countdown songs 90 - 81.

Move Your Body, Uh Huh, Woman. :heart2:

Miss You More being your fave from Witness. The chorus is fantastic. :heart2:Pendulum is in the top 3 though. That piano is one of the very few moments of catchy production on the whole album.

Most Girls is really catchy, almost made my list. I've never heard of Madison and I need new pop girls so I might get in.

Expecting another great list this year :celestial4: The 2017 lineup in the OP sounds generally promising!

#100-91: I Don't Wanna... :heart2: Woman :smitten: Anywhere + Move Your Body :katie2: Sign of the Times :worship2:
Love Hailee, wasn't a fan of Most Girls at all. Harry does noooot deserve to be this low :jonny: But at least he's here.
Really didn't expect to love or even enjoy another Rita song, but Anywhere just recently did! A bop.
Witness: A solid trinity :jamming: Power in the B3 :thing: Deja Vu tho, well deserved :keir: 100% her weakest album

CITC :clap3:

Harry, Rita and Kesha :clap3:

Anywhere is kinda cute. Uh Huh is kinda cute. I'm not really motivated to check Katy this year but she probably has a couple good songs in her album...

Yeah, it should be a good list. Especially as we get closer to the top :)

Most Girls is without a doubt Hailee's weakest single. I almost didn't include it tbh.

MLD's Top 100 Songs: 90 -  81

90. Kygo f. Ellie Goulding - First Time

It Ain't Me hyped me up a bit for other Kygo collabs. And Ellie is also a queen of EDM collabs usually. She's actually the  best part of the song as her verses are just really nice. I just don't understand why songs like this have such a ballad feel and then they breakdown to a really mediocre EDM drop. I can see why this song flopped in the US at least.

First of two appearances by Kygo. Only appearance by Ellie Goulding

89. Hey Violet - Guys My Age

This song was really interesting when I first listened to it. And it was 0.69 cents on iTunes at the time I think. So I bopped to it for a bit and then it got old quickly. I didn't realize how good one of their other songs was until last night. So we will actually see one more song from them later in the list.

First of two appearances by Hey Violet

88. Kelly Clarkson - Love So Soft

This was probably the first Kelly song in awhile where I actually felt genuine artistry behind it. The freedo m she has at Atlantic records certainly helped her this time around. It's been refreshing to finally have a change in direction music wise from her because the pop rock sound for her was pretty much declining since 2009. This particular song got old quickly though.

Only appearance by Kelly Clarkson

87. Julia Michaels - Issues

The superior Julia song comes in at 87. There's a reason why it is higher than Uh Huh, and it's because Julia actually had a unique sound to it that made her stand out in a good way. And as I said before, the highest charting song to come from a Santa Clarita, California resident (excluding the HSM songs that Ashley Tisdale was in). Anyways, I wasn't into the song for too long, but Julia has shown that with the right material, she can just as much as she does when she songwrites.

Second of three appearances by Julia Michaels

86. Samantha Jade - Nothing Without You

If you know me, you know that I'm a big stan for Samantha Jade. So it surprised me a bit that I had to rank this a little low compared so many of her other songs. Well, I guess it's because it's a slower song that isn't really single material. She released this as a standalone song earlier in the year and I listened to it for awhile until Circles On the Water came out - and once that was released, this song was put on the back burner. This song however is special in its own right, as it showcases some of Samantha's pleasant and crystal clear vocals that make for part of the reason why I love her so much. And this song is perfect for cold nights at home just chilling in bed.

One of two appearances by Samantha Jade

85. Machine Gun Kelly f. Hailee Steinfeld - At My Best

Hailee makes her second appearance, and her chorus on the song shows just how powerless she is to giving someone a hit, compared to Camila Cabello. This song is much better than Bad Things, and Hailee's chorus was always more listenable than Camila's. I didn't listen to this song too much during the year, but this song is pretty relatable, both MGK's rapping and the chorus Hailee sings. They work together well. It's just a shame this song didn't get more success. What I find really funny is that now MGK is doing a song with Bebe, so these two girls share yet another collaborator. First Florida Georgia Line, and now Machine Gun Kelly. I'm just gonna cackle at that. I'm still #TeamHailee though.

Second of three appearances by Hailee Steinfeld. Only appearance by Machine Gun Kelly.

84. Taylor Swift - Gorgeous

With 6 Taylor songs remaining after I Don't Wanna Live Forever, this was the obvious next song to exit. This song is actually really cute and kind of underrated. It's better than some of the other songs on Reputation. But it's definitely in the bottom half of the album. The bridge is probably the funniest part of the song.

Second of seven appearances by Taylor Swift

83. Harry Styles - Kiwi

This song is so damn awesome. I just wish I got into it earlier. Seriously, the guitar, Harry's natural power in this song, so much energy. The retro throwback feel is great too. In a musical climate where we have tropical beats and mumble rap, this was such a nice change in sound.

Final appearance of Harry Styles

82. Katy Perry - Roulette

Why not? It's doing hot in Russia right now. So **** it. I included it in the Top 100. This song is low-key overrated by everyone here, but I just got into this lately, so it's not as overrated as I think. The verses are pretty lit but the chorus isn't as good as I want it to be. Anyways, maybe she should make it an official if it's already smashing in Russia.

First of six appearances by Katy Perry

81. Fifth Harmony - Angel

Fifth Harmony has really lost their quality without Camila being there. I'm glad Lauren is getting more spotlight now and her parts are the best in the song. This was the only song however that I really liked from this era, besides low-key liking Down (which didn't make the list). I'm waiting for these girls to breakup because at this point, the solo stuff is more interesting. I'm happy that Fifth Harmony managed to become the only X Factor US act to have any sort of success, and in return launch Camila's solo career, but at this point, this girl group is no longer interesting to be a fan of. It's time they all moved on to solo endeavors. We will be seeing Lauren's solo stuff later on in the countdown.

Only appearance by Fifth Harmony

First Time is angelic, I love Ellie's voice on it. :smitten:

Love So Soft is one of my favourite Kelly singles in a LONG LONG time, actually made me want to buy the album. :duca:

Issues is so pure and genuine, it's been the soundtrack to my relationship. :heart2:

Gorgeous is my favourite track on the album, I think it's just because the production is so DAMN catchy. :jamming:

Great set! :clap3:
