Bobbery's Best of 2017 Throwback Songs 10-1 Up

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey all, I decided to do this again so here goes, Admiral Bobbery's Best of 2017!

Here are what list's I'll be doing:

Top 30 Albums

Top 85 Songs

Top 20 Music Videos

Top 25 Throwback Songs

Top 35 Played Artists

Still working on writing up some of the song and album reviews so I'm not quite sure when I'll start yet. I'll update the tread title and this post once I'm ready to do so. Hopefully I'll get the writing finished in the next few days.

Edit:

Finally got all my lists in order. Usually prepare a bit in advance and this year crept up on me a bit early. For those who's lists I usually follow, sorry for not commenting/following this week. I've been really busy trying to get these lists and the write-ups for them ready so I haven't had the time between this and playing Xenoblade 2  in my free time. I will get to following lists again soon.

Anyway, everything should be done now so I'll be starting all of this on Sunday.

Here's the Schedule

December 17 Songs 85-81

December 18 Songs 80-71

December 19 Songs 70-61

December 20 Songs 60-51

December 21 Songs 50-41

December 22 Songs 40-31

December 23 Songs 30-21

December 24 Songs 20-11

December 25 Break

December 26 Sick Day, Sorry

December 27 Songs 10-1

December 28 Albums 30-26

December 29 Albums 25-21

December 30 Albums 20-16

December 31 Albums 15-11

Jan 1 Albums 10-6

Jan 2 Albums 5-1

Jan 3 Videos 20-11

Jan 4 Videos 10-1

Jan 5 Most Played Artists 35-21

Jan 6 Most Played Artists 20-11

Jan 7 Most Played Artists 10-1

Jan 8 Top 25 Throwback Songs

Rules for each list

Songs: Had to be released on an album from this year or released as a single this year. Each artist gets one song per album/project. This means if an artist released multiple stand alone songs, each of them could be eligible. Or if an artist released two projects, each project could get one song on here.

Albums: Ep's did get counted on the list. Though they're aren't many on there.

Videos: No special rules, artists could have as many on the list as I felt like based on what I liked the most.

Most Played Artists: Based off of Last Fm. Scobbles

Throwback Songs: I counted songs that were 2 or more years old for this list. Basically just a list of older songs that I kept on regular rotation this year as like a fun bonus countdown.

Anyway, I'm excited to get things started.

Honorable Mentions

Today's main update will come later today. Probably around 3 pm this afternoon. So to celebrate kicking off this years Best Of, I decided to post the honorable mentions for the songs list. These two songs just barely missed the cut.

First Time - Kygo and Ellie Goulding

Cute and fun, but ultimately forgettable.

Glow Up - Mary J. Blige ft. Quavo and random background noise

A cute, braggadocious bop. Just ignore DJ Khaled’s existence.

Songs 85-81!

85: Love - Lana Del Rey

This is a lush Lana song. Her vocals on the chorus are enchanting. In fact, the chorus hook might be one of the strongest in her discography. I like that it’s a bit more upbeat compared to her normal material. Makes for a nice contrast.

84: Good Old Days - Macklemore ft. Kesha

A really nice collaboration between Kesha and Macklemore. This collaboration plays to both of their strengths and is solid from a lyrical perspective.

83: Ultralife - Oh Wonder

This has an interesting hook. The vocal harmonies are good. Overall a cute piano driven up-tempo.

82: Oh Child - Robin Schulz

It’s a bit dated but a bop. I really like the vocals on the track.

Cut To The Feeling - Carly Rae Jepsen

This is a really cute soundtrack single that has a surprisingly strong chorus.

That's it for today's update! Tomorrow will have 80-71 posted. More than likely it will be coming at around 6pm tomorrow. Thank you all for visiting my thread!

Glow Up is :flame:

I remember thinking Mary's album was solid. Maybe I'll go back and re-listen to see if it's grown on me any.

Songs 80-76!

80. Just Dance - HONNE

A fun groovy song. Very catchy. An electro/disco/R&B fusion of fun.

79. Fetish - Selena Gomez ft. Gucci Mane

A really cool and laid back song. I love Selena’s tone on this song. The production is just so lush. It deserved better than it got.

78. Confess - Logic ft. Killer Mike

Logic is corny at times but it’s a bit restrained here. I love the bit of a disco vibe going on. I really like the message he’s going with here too.

77. What Ifs - Kane Brown & Lauren Alania

Even for country pop it’s more on the pop side, especially with the glossy production. The prechorus and chorus are ear candy. Overall it’s a cute love song.

76. Ordinary World - Joy Williams

It’s really nice to hear from Joy again. Her voice sounds beautiful on this cover. A nice job from her overall.

Songs 75-71!

75. Scared To Be Lonely - Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa

Dua’s vocals on this track >>>

The verses are also really good. The beat drop on the chorus is a bit meh though. I do love how they tie in her wailing into it though.

74. Lips On You - Maroon 5

One of like two redeemable songs on this garbage fire of an album. A very sensual song that manages to capture some of the charm they used to have.

73. Graveyard - Kelsea Ballerini

Easily one of her better songs. The melody is interesting and the way she’s tackling the subject matter, comparing broken hearts and break ups to graveyard/funeral metaphors.

72. Something Just Like This - The Chainsmokers and Coldplay

I seem to be in the minority on this site but I really like this song. A couple of clumsy lyrics aside (Achilles and his kicks?) I can’t really bring myself to hate this song. It just has such a nostalgic vibe about it that I really like. I love the guitar towards the end, too. Guilty pleasure I guess.

71. Only You - Zara Larsson

A fun sensual bop. Love the beat and production. Looses points because of the tragic opening lyrics.

That's it for today! Tomorrow's update will more than likely come out at around the same time! Thanks for visiting!

70-66!

70: Hard Liquor - SOHN

This has a cool smooth grove, especially during the chorus. Has really nice production, too. A good synth sound overall.

69: Exhale - ZHU

This is just such a dark bop. I love the breakdown in the chorus especially.

68: Side - Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean, and Migos

I love

the groove this song has. It does get some points deducted because of that chipmunk voice going on in the background. Without it it’d be like 10-15 spots higher.

67: Love Can Be - Vince Staples

I just really like the beat and vibe to this song. It’s kind of tied with a couple of other tracks from his album as my favorite but this is the one I’m feeling most right now.

66: Younger Now - Miley Cyrus

Unlike a lot of this site, I actually like this song. Well I’ve gotten the impression that many on here don’t like this one at least. I thought it would make a great album track but it should never have been a single.

65-61!

65: Five More Minutes - Scotty McCreery

Haven’t really been a huge Scotty fan, despite liking his voice. Most of his material just hasn’t really been strong. This song is a great start though. Lyrically, it’s probably the best one he’s ever written. It’s very personal about his Grandpa. I have a bit of a soft spot for songs about dead relatives.

65: As If It’s Your Last - BLACKPINK

This song is insanely catchy, especially the chorus. The chorus hook might be one of the strongest from this year. Though that hook does go on for a bit. The rap verse adds some personality to this song as well. It’s just such a blast of pure fun that manages to not go too far into sugary territory. Which is a hard line to talk with me.

63: Dying to See Her - Brad Paisley ft. Bill Anderson

Brad’s album this year was really disappointing, though not that surprising. However, this song is nice. Lyrically it’s a pretty strong song with a cutting subject matter. However, the melody let’s the song down a bit.

62: Unforgettable - French Montana ft. Swae Lee

A really chill song that I just like a lot.

61: Pizza - Martin Garrix

This is a fun EDM song. Can’t really add anything to that other than I love the arrangement of the strings.

That's it for today. Tomorrow's update will be at around the same time, 6PM. As a hit, tomorrow's update will be a bit more pop heavy than today's. See ya'll then!

Yeah, the rest of the singles from MDNO are not all that good.
