ColdKeane Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Beyonce y no pretencioso no puede estar en un mismo enunciado Me gusto lo nuevo que hizo St. Vincent, no me habia convencido antes pero ahora me parece que esta bien
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 (edited) I was about to miss Process this year. Thankfully I gave it a listen this December and I don't regret a bit. Rainbow is another album I liked, not as much as Sampha's but liked all the same. Edited December 31, 2017 by Sunderland 4ever
MP2K Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Some good stuff here. Where do you find/discuss your music btw?

Eeveelution Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 On My Mind is THAT bop! Good spots for Sampha and LCD.
TRF. Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 #80. Everything Everything "Night of the Long Knives" from the album 'A Fever Dream' Genre: Art Rock, Alternative Dance, Art Pop Probably one of the best album openers of the year, and one of Everything Everything better written songs. The hyperactive production is an excellent touch too. Spoiler #79. Charlotte Gainsbourg "Deadly Valentine" from the album 'Rest' Genre: French House, Synthpop A truly magical synth-heavy, dream-disco track that truly represents the ever-blooming feeling of love. One of highlights of 'Rest', obviously. Spoiler #40. Tei Shi 'Crawl Space' Genre: Alternative R&B, Synthpop Art Pop, Indie Pop, Electropop Country: Argentina || Release Date: March 31st, 2017 || Label: Downtown One of the most underrated albums of the year was, without a doubt, Tei Shi's debut album 'Crawl Space'. The Argentinian-Canadian singer, songwriter and producer has been releasing music for a while, but this is the first project of hers that truly feels developed from beginning to end, a collection of carefully selected songs with great lyrics and excellent production. It is also worth noting how diverse the whole record is. From electropop jams that recall Carly Rae Jepsen at her best ("Say You Do" or "Keep Running") to dreamy indie tracks like "Baby" or the experimental R&B that made acts like Kelela or Autre Ne Veut known ("Justify" or "Creep") it is probably one of the most exciting pop releases of the year, touching on personal themes such as identity, love, growing old, safety and the confusion regarding all of that. She has definitely proved her potential with this record, and it will be exciting to see how will she follow this. I hope her next album brings her the success she deserves and more. Highlights: “Keep Running", "Creep", "Baby", "How Far", "Say You Do", "Justify", "Como sí", "Year 3k" You’ll like it if you like: Empress Of, Shura, Kelela, Autre Ne Veut, Grimes, Carly Rae Jepsen Spoiler
TRF. Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 #78. LCD Soundsystem "Tonite" from the album 'American Dream' Genre: Synthpop, Alternative Dance, Indietronica Lyrics might sound a touch... preachy, but still a great song with a ridiculously sick beat. Spoiler #77. Vince Staples feat. Ty Dolla $ign "Rain Come Down" from the album 'Big Fish Theory' Genre: Hip House, Contemporary R&B Crazy how despite being one of the least weird tracks on 'Big Fish Theory' it still is excellent! Also the "no no no"-s are so catchy. Spoiler #39. Tyler, the Creator 'Flower Boy' Genre: Experimental Hip Hop Neo-Soul, Alternative R&B, Synth Funk, Neo-Psychedelia Country: U.S. || Release Date: July 21st, 2017 || Label: Columbia Tyler, the Creator has never been a critical darling. He was never meant to be, he never really intended to be, he never really cared about that at all. And he still does not seem to care on 'Flower Boy', even though there are a lot of things that have changed on his music, and first of all, on Tyler himself. First of all, he seems to be more honest about who he is. His identity (like on "I Ain't Got Time!"), the way in which in he expresses himself both lyrically and sonically feel a lot more true to who he really is. There is also a lot of influences from R&B and soul music, which were present on a lot of his albums post-'Golf', but also influences from funk and psychedelic music in a way that truly feels... rich. And colorful. And most of all, fun. Not to mention that a lot of the collaborations on here are excellent, with excellent contributions from Frank Ocean, Estelle, A$AP Rocky, Steve Lacy and others. Personally, I was never the biggest Tyler fan. I was put off by a lot of his lyrical content, and he never really seemed to have the same level of a lot of his Odd Future mates. But he definitely proved me wrong with this album, and I cannot wait for the follow-up to this, which I am sure will be even better. Highlights: “Where This Flower Blooms" (feat. Frank Ocean), "Who Dat Boy" (feat. A$AP Rocky), "Pothole" (feat. Jared Smith), "Garden Shed" (feat. Estelle), "911/Mr. Lonely" (feat. Frank Ocean & Steve Lacy), "Droppin Seeds" (feat. Lil Wayne), "November" You’ll like it if you like: Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill Spoiler
TRF. Posted January 1, 2018 Author Posted January 1, 2018 #76. Mura Masa & Charli XCX "1 Night" from the album 'Mura Masa' Genre: Electropop, Alternative R&B Ah, yes, another Charli XCX-related track that should have been a gigantic hit but ended up not doing much. Probably the best EDM-pop single of the year. Spoiler #75. Jlin feat. William Basinski "Holy Child" from the album 'Black Origami' Genre: Footwork, IDM The thought of a Jlin and William Basinski collab was... unexpected to me. Thank god it delivered. It really did. Spoiler #38. Priests 'Nothing Feels Natural' Genre: Post-Punk Art Punk, No Wave, Experimental Rock Country: U.S. || Release Date: January 27th, 2017 || Label: Sister Polygon It feels perhaps accidental that Priests released their debut album a week after Trump’s presidency started. As heard on most of their music, the Washington band has a political, almost protest-based edge to their songwriting, while also talking about personal struggles, all of that brought through an abrasive hybrid of post-punk and straight up 90′s riot-grrrl (but not quite) punk rock. Their debut EP was called ‘Bodies and Control and Money and Power’, and sounds exactly as angsty as you can imagine it to be. However, on their proper debut album, ‘Nothing Feels Natural’, they do something that sounds rather expansive. It feels just as challenging as it feels fun, and there definitely is a lot of variety in it, and every experiment is successful thanks to Katie Alice Greer's excellent vocals and songwriting. Even though it might lack the rawness that made their early recordings so appealing, they balance it by writing their best songs ever. Lyric and theme-wise, even though this was obviously recorded before Trump became the President of the United States or whatever tragic thing happened this past year, Priests’ debut album feels completely relevant. Personally, ‘Nothing Feels Natural’ proves that they are exactly what rock music needs nowadays. Highlights: “Appropiate”, “JJ”, “Lelia 20″, “No Big Bang”, “Nothing Feels Natural”, "Suck" You’ll like it if you like: Savages, Wire, Sonic Youth, Bauhaus, Moor Mother Spoiler
Zay Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Rain Come Down, 1 Night, Holy Child, and Nothing Feels Natural
World Eater Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Great update Deadly Valentine, tonite, 1 Night and Holy Child, wig Love Flower Boy and Nothing Feels Natural from the album list, lowkey wish I had included the former on mine
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 1, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2018 Rain Come Down and Deadly Valentine Hope DV isn't your highest Charlotte pick.
Tom Vercetti Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 tonite and deadly valentine holy child was also a jlin favorite. i like rain come down but i'm not sure how to feel about it as a closer.
TRF. Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 #74. Allie X "Paper Love" from the album 'CollXtion II' Genre: Electropop, Contemporary R&B One could easily accuse this of being basic, but even if it is not as immediate as her other songs, it is probably one of her best. Spoiler #73. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith "To Follow and Lead" from the album 'The Kid' Genre: Folktronica, Art Pop Sounds like a midpoint between Enya and country music... my thing kind of. Also the production is gorgeous. Spoiler #37. Goldfrapp 'Silver Eye' Genre: Art Pop, Electropop, Synthpop Ambient Pop, Futurepop Country: UK || Release Date: March 31st, 2017 || Label: Mute This is a point that has been made several times, but Goldfrapp’s releases tend to fall into two categories: electronic dance-pop and more toned-down “ambient”-leaning stuff. Their most recent release, ‘Tales of Us’ (from 2013) was their most organic, minimal yet still enormous album, and I was expecting either them continuing in that direction or doing something completely different. When I heard “Anymore”, the lead single from ‘Silver Eye’, I thought they would go for the latter. However, for the first time in their career, they somehow managed to find a middle ground. Even their most dance-oriented records had a couple of slow songs or ballads, but this seems to be their most balanced work in the band’s output. Also this time, Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory brought excellent producer John Congleton and dark-ambient prodigy The Haxan Cloak to this record, and the results might not be what you would expect to be. In theory, you can link this record to all of their previous album to an extent. This is the closest to a “typical” Goldfrapp album that you are ever going to get, yet it feels completely unique and still manages to innovate. ‘Silver Eye’ continues ot prove that Goldfrapp are one of the most important electronic-pop acts of all time. Highlights: “Anymore”, “Systemagic”, “Tigerman”, “Become the One”, “Zodiac Black”, “Ocean” You’ll like it if you like: their previous music (all of it), The Knife, iamamiwhoami, VNV Nation Spoiler
TRF. Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 #72. Kedr Livanskiy "Ariadna" from the album 'Ariadna' Genre: Ambient Pop, Hypnagogic Pop A beautifully-sung Russian minimal-pop ballad that makes you feel warm in winter and cool in the summer. Excellence, in my opinion. Spoiler #71. Oneohtrix Point Never feat. Iggy Pop "The Pure and the Damned" from the album 'Good Time OST' Genre: Ambient Pop, Art Pop Haven't seen Good Time, and haven't heard the score yet... but god is this a wonderful track. Everytime I hear the "and we can pet the crocodiles" I get chills. Spoiler #36. Linn da Quebrada 'Pajubá' Genre: Funk carioca, Conscious Hip Hop Experimental Hip Hop, Glitch Pop, Ballroom, Wonky, Art Pop Country: Brazil || Release Date: October 6th, 2017 || Label: self-released Even though Brazil has legalized gay marriage in 2013 and one of its biggest popstars is Pabllo Vittar, a drag queen, an epidemic of violence directed at queer and trans people has emerged in the past year and a half. Although, MC Linn da Quebrada's debut album 'Pajubá' does not really seem to address that in particular (not a lot, at least), it really does seem important in that context. Linn da Quebrada talks about her experience as a black, poor trans woman from the favelas in Sao Paulo, and there is definitely anger (like on "Bomba Pra Caralho", sadness and spirituality in the album. Having said that, there is a lot of fun too, with lyrics that feel both tongue-in-cheek and unpretentiously fun, owning her sexuality in many ways. Also, the production is literally insane, reminding me a lot of Vince Staples' latest album and Arca (!!!) a midpoint between Brazil's baile funk and club music from all over the world. If you can get over the fact that it is on Portuguese (and you totally should) you'd probably find one of the most innovative, diverse and fun rap albums of 2017. Highlights: “(Muito +) Talento", "Submissa do 7° Dia", "Bomba Pra Caralho", "Bixa Travesty", "Transudo", "Coytada", "Dedo Nocué" (feat. Mulher Pepita), "A Lenda" You’ll like it if you like: M.I.A., Vince Staples, Le1f, Arca, Mykki Blanco, MC Carol, MC Bin Laden Spoiler
