Tom Vercetti Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Digging this recent song set. I listened to the studio album Hammock released this year but not the OST. Wondering if it's any different
Lazuli Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 STRMB is too low Tsunami is easily the best song on Witless Los Ageless, My Old Man, Keep Running, Wallowa, Shake Em Off I Dare You and New Rules are wonderful how do you sleep? is just So epic and amazing
Bubble Tea Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 STAN for "Tsunami". Witness' cutest little track.
Uncatena Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 I have mixed feelings on Witness but Tsunami is a career highlight. Los Ageless is probably the song that represents masseduction the best and it was a perfect lead single choice, NY should've been second. I forgot about the Hipp Campus LP, but i remember enjoying it. Keep Running is cute too. I love Virtue, but Backwater has much better songs imo New Rules, I Dare You, Ponyboy
TheWayWeWere Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Ponyboy Tsunami is cute bop New Rules tho
World Eater Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Los Ageless, New Rules, how do you sleep?, XO TOUR Llif3 and Wallowa Lake Monster I Dare You was one of the worst songs on I See You imo
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 26, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 26, 2017 I liked Your Name for a minute then dropped it, has she given us anything else?
Glassmouth Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) #74 Cigarettes After Sex Apocalypse Quote Apocalypse, like most CAS songs, is nostalgic, slow in tempo and really emotional to listen to, really well made indie rock/pop music. #73 Kelly Lee Owens Anxi. Quote Anxi. (featuring Jenny Hval) sounds like an underwater techno party, the atmosphere created by both Owens' instrumental and Jenny's vocal delivery is intoxicating. #72 Selena Gomez Bad Liar Quote Selena Gomez' Bad Liar is probably one of her best songs, an effective and quirky feeling, an iconic bassline (thank you, Tina Weymouth) and a sexy feeling, all of these elements combined make this pop song one of the best pop songs that came out this year. #71 Dirty Projects Little Bubble Quote Little Bubble's emotional lyrics and distant but touching feeling make this track a highlight in this band's self-titled (more like... this one piece band, that fits better now lmao) #70 The War on Drugs Holding On Quote Most The War on Drugs songs have kinda the same feeling and I think that's one of the things that put me a bit behind their work, I just don't like most of their songs but when they are able to achieve something great I seriously love it... Holding On is inspirational and somehow nostalgic and happy, a great roadtrip song. #69 Austra Future Politics Quote Future Politics is one of the most straightforward songs in Austra's Utopia, with an explosive chorus and a great synth bass, this song enhances Katie's vocals (that are not over the top, thank GOD), so yeah, really cool dance track. #68 U.S. Girls M.A.H. (Mad as Hell) Quote Mad as Hell's dance-y feeling and vocal delivery make it unique and super fun to listen, the bass is good, the vocal melodies are worked flawlessly and the build-up feeling this creates to end up in a more slow note to repeat everything again make it a really intoxicating quick bop. #67 Vagabon Cold Apartment Quote Cold Apartment showcases Vagabon's vocals, it's emotional and the type of song you want to listen in a rainy day. #66 David Bowie No Plan Quote I still miss this man.... No Plan is a slow song, it sounds SO sad and I guess the fact that I'm a fan make this even sadder, Bowie's vocal delivery is just as sad and the whole ve is weirdly dreamy. #65 The Midnight Shadows Quote Shadows is a GREAT synthwave song, it sounds straight out of the soundtrack of a movie like 'Drive' and I think that's why I love it so much, the vocal delivery is cute and it's catchy too! 6 minutes of epic 80s inspired awesomeness. #64 Vaya Futuro 6AM Quote Probably the best 8 minutes of shoe-gaze inspired indie rock music you'll hear this year, the epicness of this song cannot be described with words, the vocal delivery of the vocalist is super nostalgic and sad too, UGH, WHAT A SONG #63 The Presets Do What You Want Quote An amazingly well done dance track, with a constant 'DO WHAT U WANT' repeat along the track (in a really fun way), a great bass and a punchy feeling this track is going to make u want to dance #62 SZA Drew Barrymore Quote SZA's Drew Barrymore was technically released last year but i don't give a damn, BUT anyway, this song, since the first time I heard it was an instant fave in SZA's catalogue, SZA's vocals are the cherry on top, super cool and vibey R&B bop. #61 Spoon First Caress Quote One of Hot Thoughts most instant tracks for me, this song has most of the things I love about this band, a cool feeling, cool vocals and is catchy as hell. #60 Post Animal Special Moment Quote Post Animal was a surprise for me this year, I didn't know SH*T about these guys and when I heard this song, oh wow, the psychedelic influences show in a cool way without making you feel your listening to a copy pasted version of whatever psychedelic band is more popular right now + it's vibey, which I love. Wondervisions Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I only know drew barrymore (which is amazing) out of those (quickly googles the others)
Uncatena Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Anxi. sounds literally like a mix of Kelly and Jenny, sooo good. Bad Liar, Future Politics and First Caress
Glassmouth Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 BEST ALBUMS OF 2017 #19 The Big Moon Love in the 4th Dimension Quote Love in the 4th Dimension, The Big Moon's debut album by this all female british indie band, LIT4D is rock-ish and cool, the ability of Juliette Jackson to sound like a post-riot grrl vocalist and also being sexy as hell is what, in my opinion ties this album together, with an amazing opener such as Sucker, this record (of barely 40 minutes of lenght) is a short and effective statement of what this talented group of girls can do, at times moody, at times boppy but always sounding like your cool garage band making it big, this is refreshing and another prove of how women in rock music are doing some of the best work. BEST TRACKS Sucker, Pull the Other One, Formidable, The End #18 SACRED PAWS Strike a Match Quote Strike a Match, unlike most albums in this list, doesn't take itself too seriously, it seems like SACRED PAWS recorded this for the sake of having fun, without a huge artistic/pretentious statement behind it, this is pure artpunk bliss; the way the trumpets, the uptempo instrumentals and the melodies move from track to track make this little 32-minutes-record one to listen (a MUST, in my opinion), this album is quirky, is fun, is just carefree and really colorful without being cheesy. BEST TRACKS Everyday, Nothing, Rest, Voice #17 Alvvays Antisocialities Quote Okay, I don't want to say this album has a 'dreamy' quality because that is literally the most clichéd descriptive for Alvvays music but **** it, this album is sweet and dreamy, unlike their first album (at least in my opinion), Antisocialities seems a bit more focused and a bit more experimental, as if the band really wanted to, maybe, compromise something in the process, it doesn't feel like a forced progression either though, these are hard hitting pop melodies coming over and over throughout the whole record, which make it a lot more enjoyable and it has a lot of replay value, which is something I want from a record at the end, this album, also (I have to add) includes one of my favorite songs of the year, the sugary 'Dreams Tonite' and some other amazing indie pop songs with guitars, dreamy atmospheres and a sweet-like-candy voice that mixes everything perfectly. This record is, at the very least, an enjoyable and short journey. BEST TRACKS Dreams Tonite, In Undertow, Forget About Life, Plimsoll Punks
Invisibility Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I didn't know of GFOTYBUCKS' existence but MESS at it including basically all of Secret Mix and Cake Mix The way you put Vaya Futuro makes me curious to listen to them!
Tom Vercetti Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Anxi, M.A.H, No Plan, Holding On Quote Okay, I don't want to say this album has a 'dreamy' quality because that is literally the most clichéd descriptive for Alvvays music but **** it, this album is sweet and dreamy, Sometimes the predictable response is the right one. Enjoyable collection of work, albeit slightly frontloaded.
Playa Playa Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I agree with your thoughts on Antisocialities. It repeats what made their debut work so well but it's also a natural progression.
MP2K Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 78-75, Drew Berrymore, First Caress, Antisocialities I really did like Future Politics at the top of the year. Kind of forgot about it Did not know The Presets made a comeback.
World Eater Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 Antisocialites was great, although I feel like people (looking at you r/indieheads ) keep overrating it. First Caress, No Plan, Mad as Hell, Holding On, Bad Liar and Anxi.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 28, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2017 Anxi is good but Evolution and Lucid r better. Looove Alvvays album and I also thought their first album was a bit of a snooze. I wouldn't call antisocialites more experimental though lol
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 28, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 28, 2017 Bad Liar, Holding On, MAH and Drew Barrymore I listened to Lit4D once and it was nice but never went back to it
Zay Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Anxi., Little Bubble, and Future Politics are IT! Future Politics almost damaged my car speakers and I love it for that
