Overall a great track. #168 yaeji Guap Quote yaeji was, at least it seems, a revelation everywhere I look in the forum there's already a yaeji stan and honestly I don't blame them, this girl blends really hypnotic deep-house productions with her unique voice that moves through these elegant instrumentals with such grace and Guap is not an exception, the track is a lot more elegant because of her talky delivery and is also enjoyable as hell. #167 SZA Love Galore Quote Okay, I might not dig the album as a lot of other members do but I recognize how good this song is, the really lowkey bass-y noise blended with the trap inspired percussion and SZA's relaxed and sexy vocals create a really vibey grind anthem, I love it. #166 WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA Gala Quote This japanese girl has been serving bops since Sen No Rikyu but I think that she's finally found a sound that feels natural for her lyrics, voice and melodies, this lush house inspired jam takes everything we love about her eccentric delivery and highlights it, Gala is a perfect dance track. #165 Björk Utopia Quote Utopia's title track sounds like an alien paradise, only the visuals for this video are able to capture perfectly how creepy and beautiful the sounds created by Björk move through its almost 5 minutes, the flutes, the little electric birds singing as if the nature of the melody didn't exist and Björk's voice sum up the brilliance of the icelandic goddess' new album. #164 Superorganism Nobody Cares Quote This psychedelic pop band has a unique style, I cannot really compare them with anyone else, the vocal delivery is really relaxed but effective, the way they incorporate electronic, guitars and hip-hop influenced percussions in this track make up for a really out-of-this-world pop experience, I'm really excited to see how this guys work a full length, it'll be really interesting to hear. #163 Blaue Blume Haven't You Quote Blaue Blume's kind of art-rock captivates me, the vocalist's voice is melodramatic, long vibratos and filled with emotion as if he wasn't really forcing the words that come out of his mouth and the lowkey instrumentation and heavy synth work made on the song just finish this already delicious cake of a song. #162 King Krule Dum Surfer Quote King Krule's vocals (I must admit) are not really my thing, but with Dum Surfer's heavy atmosphere these vocals work, the angry guitars, the low pitched vocals and the whole groove is intoxicating and dark, a wonderful song. #161 Kelela Frontline Quote Kelela's debut album opener is glorious, blending atmospheric sounds at the beginning and then punching you in the face with a catchy and super effective chorus, Kelela finally found the balance that she needed to find (and that, in my opinion kinda lacked in previous efforts), this is a triumph #160 Richard Edwards Disappeared Planets Quote Disappeared Planets reminded me of a jazzy and sexy Bowie at first, (the Blackstar Bowie of course) and that in itself is already a compliment that not a lot of artists get, the vibe is glorious, the backing vocals just add to the already good melodies created by Richard and that chorus... oh man, that chorus is amazing. Vilppu Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Do you have other songs by Wednesday Campanella/Kelela? These are both alright but they had much stronger. Utopia is among the best on that album, Dum Surfer is great and I thought Love Galore was v overrated at first but it grew on me.

I've recently came to recognize it as one of the best singles of the year. Utopia's title track is cute, but not one of my picks from the album. And of course, legend Kelela! she really delivered

Glassmouth Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) (#159 - #150) #159 St. Vincent Sugarboy Quote Sugarboy's crazy arpeggiated Giorgio Moroder-ish synths are nuts and combined with Annie's bonkers and mad guitars create a noisy and bubbly pop track, one of the best in Masseduction. #158 Saint Etienne Out of My Mind Quote Saint Etienne's Out of My Mind is probably one of the most effective and straightforward pop songs in their most recent record 'Home Counties', it moves in an almost nostalgic way and Sarah Cracknell sounds excellent over the music. A genius pop tune. #157 Banes World You Say I'm in Love Quote This slowburning psychedelic-funk pop song is a perfect and heart-wrecking, the way the acoustic guitar and the melting electronic are incorporated alongside the reverbed vocals create a track that could very well be Mac DeMarco's Chamber of Reflection's sister (one of my favorite songs of all time) so that's that on that. #156 Harry Styles Sign of the Times Quote The first time I heard Harry Styles' solo debut single I was actually shocked at how good it was, we all know Styles is probably the one with more style in the whole bunch but I didn't expect this classic sound, the way it breaks into this anthemic chorus is masterful and despite being the only good song (imo) in his whole debut album, it makes me think that he could serve better stuff in the future and that's very exciting. #155 Thundercat Friendzone Quote Friendzone is funky and a serious trip, in its short 3 minutes and 13 seconds Thundercat manages to fill every single space with a funk groove that not a lot of funk artists are able to achieve nowadays. We love that. #154 Emma Stone Audition (The Fools Who Dream) [From the La La Land Soundtrack] Quote I mean... yeah, this was released last year but since the movie was released until this year in my always-late-for-movie-premieres Mexico I didn't hear this song until this year, Audition is one of the most emotionally wrecking moments of the La La Land soundtrack, a more stripped back ballad than some of the other grand musicall-y odes to old cinema that this film has, the lyrics expose Emma Stone's character and adds to the whole ''dreamers in la la land'' vibe that Mr. Damien Chazelle was going for. #153 Mondo Grosso ラビリンス Quote Mondo Grosso's ability to create a dance track is to be respected, not only the video is good, but this excellent kinda city-pop-ish tune is chill, dancey and groovy... all at once. #152 Ela Minus Juan Sant Quote Latina singer, songwriter and producer Ela Minus filled us with her unique kind of bleepy and light soft pop music, in Juan Sant she found the perfect balance to not overwhelm us with her sweet voice and that percussive instrumental, a great prove of how Latin indie pop artists are the ones to watch nowadays. #151 Vessels Deflect the Light Quote Deflect the Light is as if The Flaming Lips wanted to create an avant-electronic-pop bop (I mean.. you have Wayne Coyne there but whatever), Vessels is able to balance both Wayne's singing in a not too overwhelming reverb and in his glitchy instrumental that is packed with colors and metalic textures. #150 Sufjan Stevens Tonya Harding Quote We all know I love Sufjan Stevens, and to not put this amazing track on the list would've been criminal, but Tonya Harding is truly a good song, no matter if you listen to the D major version (which recalls Carrie & Lowell and Exploding Whale) or if you listen to in Eb major version (which is a lot more emotional and piano-packed, this song is a sweet ode to one of artistic ice skating most controversial figures to ever perform on the ice, Tonya Harding works as a sweet ballad to, at least for me, comfort Tonya, as if Sufjan needed to stroke her and tenderly tell her that 'everything's going to be okay'.
