Remmy Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 Day 12 Updates | Biggest Surprise/Growers/GIF of the Year • Best Albums + Non-Singles: Past Years Recaps We're back! Not a lot time left to reveal stuff so I gotta go a bit faster. Here's some winners for a few of the remaining Extras categories! BIGGEST SURPRISE: Foster the People's Return Foster the People started off their discography with the amazing Torches. Then they slipped into a big sophomore slump with 2014's Supermodel, which was insanely forgettable (aside from the singles.) I wasn't very excited when they announced their three-song EP, but I still listened and enjoyed it. Months later, they dropped its parent album, Sacred Hearts Club, and I was extremely impressed. I never expected them to come this hard AND release something better than their debut on top of that. BIGGEST GROWER (ALBUM): Bleachers 'Gone Now' When discovering Bleachers, I heard 'Strange Desire' first and loved it. 'Gone Now' was significantly more experimental and I wasn't really sure how I felt about ha. With every additional listen, a new track grew on me until there were no issues remaining. Learning more about the backstory also helped, because now I can understand some of the "hidden" messages. BIGGEST GROWER (SONG): Taylor Swift "So It Goes..." I never hated this, but I can say that it definitely started off in my 'reputation' bottom 2 (with "Dress".) There was just nothing interesting about it to me. Usually when a song starts out in my bottom 3-5, it'll stay there for a long time. Maybe even forever. But "So It Goes..." certainly broke that curse, as it's now in my top 7 from the album. Taylor did that for sure. Also, this part: "Honestly baby, who's counting? ...Who's counting? ONE. TWO. THREE." still leaves me holding onto my wig. GIF OF THE YEAR: 5H Bored AF While Camila Talks The only award these girls will EVER win from me! I dislike them but absolutely loooove this moment. I don't really use a lot of GIFs but this one is just too perfect. I cackle every damn time, and always have to watch it over and over for a bit.
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted January 4, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted January 4, 2018 Still need to listen to Gone Now So It Goes... was never in my bottom three on rep but the way it grew on me was crazy
Staryu Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 So It Goes was a grower for me too, when it randomly played on my spotify playlist, it would get stuck in my head
Dom Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Quote Taylor Swift "So It Goes... yasssssssss, a grower , a bop, a song.

Luckily I don't watch nor care for Logan Paul Okay I'm finally home from my vacation and ready to wrap things up Let's go, girlies! Here's another bundle reveal: Best Films/Albums/Non-Singles I don't know if I'm gonna keep doing this extra simplistic layout for the rest of the ceremony but it's quite possible at this point kii kii. "BEST" FILMS | #18-14: Not gonna lie, my movies list is quite a flop this time around. Also, I missed out on plenty of Q4 releases that will have to wait for my 2018 list: Call Me By Your Name • Coco • The Disaster Artist • Downsizing Greatest Showman • I, Tonya • Lady Bird • Thor: Ragnarok • maybe more? 18. Snatched [F] ...not. 17. Beauty and the Beast [D] Really wish I could say I loved this, but I wasn't sold on anything. The actors, acting, singing... just stick with the original. 16. Rough Night [D+] Not as rough as I expected, still pretty meh. Not a lot of comedy at all, I mainly just kept watching to see how things end. 15. Detroit [C] The trailer to this was so emotional and intense, but when you spread all these negative events out for 2 and a half hours, it gets to the point where you end up lowkey bored and a bit depressed. It still has a great message though. 14. Girls Trip [C+] Critics have practically worshiped this movie, which is extremely rare for an R-rated comedy. So as a massive fan of R-rated comedies, I went into this expecting greatness. Turns out it's actually weaker than plenty of others I've seen. At least it's a really fun time watching others have fun, but I surprisingly didn't laugh a lot. "BEST" ALBUMS | #41-31: ...It gets way better than this, just gotta do a bit of waiting. 41. Charli XCX 'Pop 2' [[Bad]] I thought [album #40] had the last spot in the bag but then Charli came rushing through before the year ended! I like the idea of this mixtape but in most places, the execution is just OFF. Really, really, really off. Trinity: Femmebot • Porsche • Backseat | Bottom 3: Delicious • Track 10 • Lucky 40. Chris Brown 'Heartbreak On a Full Moon' [[Bad]] The only album to make it on this list without being fully listened to! I spent a long ass time just going through snippets because I'm still a fan and have no self respect. Even my trimmed down 13-track version isn't that amazing, either. Trinity: Party • If You're Down • Hangover | Bottom 3: Good ****ing luck 39. The Script 'Freedom Child' [[Bland]] This made me realize that I'm tired of waiting for another great album from them. I think it's time to go. Trinity: No Man Is An Island • Eden • Freedom Child | Bottom 3: Rain • Rock the World • Wonders 38. Katy Perry 'Witness' [[Bland]] Has some solid moments here and there, but it's surrounded by intense mediocrity - and I can usually tolerate mediocrity, just not this time. Do better, Katy... we know you have finer material than this. Trinity: Chained • Miss You More • Swish Swish | Bottom 3: Hey Hey Hey • Bigger Than Me • Mind Maze 37. Miley Cyrus 'Younger Now' [[Bland]] [See #38, legit the exact same thoughts] Trinity: Younger Now • Malibu • Inspired | Bottom 3: Miss You So Much • I Would Die for You • Rainbowland 36. Gwen Stefani 'You Make It Feel Like Christmas' [[Bland]] The title track and Jingle Bells cover are nice. Just listened last month and I don't remember anything else dd. Trinity: Jingle Bells • YMIFLC • My Gift Is You | Bottom 3: When I Was a... • Silent Night • Santa Baby 35. The Killers 'Wonderful Wonderful' [[Bland]] Forgettable forgettable, unfortunately unfortunately. Trinity: The Man • Tyson vs. Douglas • Life to Come | Bottom 3: WW • Money On Straight • Some Kind of Love 34. Blackbear 'digital druglord' [[Bland]] This one is actually decent, but almost all 10 tracks are similar. Once you've heard 1, you've heard the other 9. Trinity: i miss the old u • make daddy proud • wish u the best | Bottom 3: moodz • juicy sweatsuits • if i could... 33. Kelly Clarkson 'Meaning of Life' [[Bland]] Sorry! I know a lot of ATRLers rave about this, it was just alright to me. Lowkey the same situation as #34, too? Trinity: Move You • Slow Dance • Meaning of Life | Bottom 3: Didn't I • Whole Lotta Woman • Go High 32. Train 'a girl a bottle a boat' [[Bland]] This came out last January so at least I have an excuse for not remembering it Definitely not their best work. Trinity: Drink Up • Play That Song • You Better Believe | Bottom 3: Working Girl • Loverman • Lost and Found 31. Poppy 'Poppy.Computer' [[Bland]] I enjoy Poppy both on and off YouTube, and I have no problem with her making an album solely revolving around her character, but some of the stuff on here are just too juvenile. Like, something you'd hear on a Nick Jr. show or whatever. Trinity: Interweb • I'm Poppy • Computer Boy | Bottom 3: My Microphone • Let's Make a Video • Bleach Blonde Baby BEST NON-SINGLES | #100-81: This list only has songs that I've rated a 9.5 or 10/10! All of the higher ones start at #63. 100. Sam Smith "Midnight Train" [[ Appearances: 1 of 1 ]]099. Charli XCX "Blame It On You" [[ Appearances: 1 of 4 ]]098. P!nk "Better Life" [[ Appearances: 1 of 6 ]]097. Harry Styles "Only Angel" [[ Appearances: 1 of 5 ]]096. Foster the People "S.H.C." [[ Appearances: 1 of 5 ]]095. TheWayWeWere Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I'll wait for Goldie comeback for years... but Snatched was not the tea not Pop2 Charli did amazing this year You Make It Feel has some great original songs, but covers mostly lacks something The Man was absolutely flawless, but WW was bland yeah
potent Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) I liked Meaning of Life but everything else is okay to be this low. Midnight Train deserved better though and it's Sams only appearance Lady Bird and CMBYN are great definitely worth checking Edited January 6, 2018 by potent
Admiral Bobbery Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Foster the People's album surprised me too. I thought they'd lost it completely after that 2nd record.
lhdang2000 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Miss You More + Secrets + Bastards + Better Life. I thought MoL is great. The soulful theme might make the songs similar, but when you listen to it more, you will feel each song more. And Girls Trip is actually my 2nd most favorite of 2017. I enjoy it so much that I rewatch it at least 3 times already.

I know I said earlier but I was really jet lagged kiii kiii Another category I added in last minute, and for good reason! This video deserves lashings. Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj "Swish Swish" Release Date: 08/24/2017 | Views: 367,504,786 If I was an artist and this was in my videography, I'd just give up. What an embarrassment. This was somehow worse than YouTube Rewind, which featured similar memes. This is an easy song to make a video for, too... it's fun, upbeat, danceable... why she and/or her team decided to go down this route is a true mystery. Just another example of Katy trying to be ~cOol aND HIp wItH thE tReNDzz$$zzz~ this era. Click the "winner" and/or gif to watch... if you dare.

That would be cute! Though I can already imagine it being really similar to SS I can picture a ton of ~super funny~ falls! BEST FILMS | #13-09: 13. Moana [B-] Didn't love this as much as many others did, it was cute though. Just started getting a bit bored around the 3rd act. 12. Pitch Perfect 3 [B-] The weakest of the franchise - but just like the 2nd film: If you love the cast/characters/music, you should still have a fun time with this one, despite some awkward or unnecessary moments. 11. Moonlight [B+] Great acting and phenomenal directing. I generally liked this, but was actually hoping for a bit more. I felt like there were several missed opportunities where they could've dived deeper into the story, like each period of Chiron's life got cut off at the wrong time. I'll hold my thoughts on whether it deserved Best Picture over La La Land (#1 on my 2016 Best Films list.) 10. The Founder [B+] There's nothing necessarily amazing about The Founder, but the concept of how McDonald's started and became a fast food empire always intrigued me. The cast also does a good job at holding your interest, entertainment-wise. 9. American Assassin [B+] An incredibly generic, unoriginal action flick - still enjoyed it tho. Admittedly might be a few spots too high, but #11-7 are all kinda interchangeable. Like I warned ya before, my Best Films list is a little weak this year. BEST ALBUMS | #30-26: 30. Khalid 'American Teen' [[Bland]] I feel like he sounds the best behind a more upbeat instrumental, and we didn't get a lot of that on here. I listened to this more than once yet I can't remember much, which means the other tracks kinda faded into one another. Trinity: Young Dumb & Broke • 8TEEN • Winter | Bottom 3: Shot Down • Coaster • Angels 29. cupcakKe 'Queen Elizabitch' [[Decent]] This definitely taught me to take her music a bit more seriously, and I'm sure plenty can relate to that. Miss Harris brought some REAL bops to the table on here, as well as some amazing messages for her growing fanbase. But, the album suffers a bit due to a handful of forgettable fluff. Trinity: Cpr • Barcodes • Quick Thought | Bottom 3: Toys "R" Us • Tarzan • Civilized 28. Maroon 5 'Red Pill Blues' [[Decent]] I know it's not a popular opinion on here but I've always loved Maroon 5, both old and new. Sadly, Red Pill Blues is just so... overwhelmingly plain. Aside from the real lead single and maybe 3 other songs, they didn't really give us much to bop to. Trinity: What Lovers Do • Visions • Wait | Bottom 3: Who I Am • Plastic Rose • Denim Jacket 27. Halsey 'hopeless fountain kingdom' [[Decent]] I feel like ATRL reeeally overhyped this one. Maybe I'm missing something but there were only a few tracks I'd consider standouts, while the rest just ranged from okay to simply good. The concept also didn't hook me. Trinity: Strangers • Now or Never • Eyes Closed | Bottom 3: Heaven In Hiding • Hopeless • Lie 26. The Chainsmokers 'Memories...Do Not Open' [[Decent]] The Chainsmokers SNAPPED on their two EPs, so I thought they'd go even harder for their first, official studio release. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. They still gave us some great gems, but not without a bundle of songs that could've been left... unopened. Trinity: Young • Something Just Like... • Break Up Every... | Bottom 3: Don't Say • The One • My Type BEST NON-SINGLES | #80-71: 080. Foster the People "III" [[ Appearances: 2 of 5 ]]079.
