RoyalT Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 Everything is so tragic The music industry is dead, even SPS can't save it. It seems that only numerous artists are winning in the streaming era.

Quote "In what's now become a familiar story, the U.S. recorded music industry has seen revenue growth accelerate again in the first half of 2017, up 17 percent over the first half of last year to $4.0 billion, according the the RIAA's 2017 mid-year report. http://www.billboard.com/articles/business/7972868/us-music-industry-revenue-growth-accelerates-paid-streaming-50-percent

I thought that once SPS are included in the RIAA formula we'll get plenty of multi platinum albums, but it's not happening.

The stats I posted show that the industry is up both in terms of revenue and in terms of consumption. That is, people are both consuming more music than they were last year and the industry has made more money than it did last year. But it is true that we don't have any gangbuster 4 or 5x platinum albums this year.

Mr.Fenty Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 Lil Pump is actually has a shot for #1 what a time to be alive indeed
Renan90 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 PETTY VS. PUMP VS.? THE FIGHT FOR #1 IS A GREAT WIDE OPEN While the race for #1 remains murky, at the moment we may be looking at a showdown between Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Greatest Hits and Lil Pump's self-titled debut (Warner Bros.). Petty's death on 10/2 sparked the beginning of a rally at digital that continues (the set landed at #2 on our most recent SPS chart with 74k), and the filling of orders for physical product this week adds to his surging total, which, like Pump's, looks to be in the 45-50k ballpark. Just behind these two, a number of titles appear to be in contention, including Caroline's NF, Republic's Post Malone (42k on our last SPS chart) and Atlantic's Lil Uzi Vert (38k on the last chart) most of which are in the 40-45k region now, and possibly RCA Nashville/Zone 4's Kane Brown and Highbridge/Atlantic's A Boogie With a Hoodie (about 61k on the last chart). With all these titles so close, it doesn't take much special attention to wrangle the numbers sufficient for an advantage. Stay tuned for more numbers soon. http://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=308786
