It's not hard to get another hit record in this climate. One-hit wonders are rarer nowadays.

Cardi can easily get another with a feature or even as a lead artist.

Manufactured like Fancy??? Get the f*ck out of here with that bs.

Yall still swear Iggy was some huge label creation or some **** as if she didn’t work her way up from nothing. Fancy was genuine and people connected to that, whether it had a pop chorus or not that song was gonna hit.

:deadbanana3: Sis I am saying Fancy has a catchy chorus while others making it seem like BODAK is just strict rap song when the chorus is still a catchy melody. I am on Iggy side sis.

Yes it does.

This is clearly a chorus that is catchy as it's repeated 3 times in the song. Fancy is just more manufactured.

[Chorus]
Said, "Lil bitch, you can't **** with me if you wanted to"
These expensive, these
is red bottoms, these is bloody shoes
Hit the store, I can get 'em both, I don't wanna choose
And I'm quick, cut a ***** off, so don't get comfortable, look
I don't dance now, I make money moves
Say I don't gotta dance, I make money move

If I see you and I don't speak, that means I don't **** with you
I'm a boss, you a worker, bitch, I make bloody moves

Again, how is this a pop chorus? Being repeated several times doesn't make it pop, it makes it... well, a chorus.

"Rockstar" debuts at No. 1 on both Streaming Songs (44.1 million) and Digital Song Sales (80,000). (Note that "Bodak" boasts 46.4 million U.S. streams, while "Rockstar" racked 44.1 million, yet the latter is No. 1 on Streaming Songs; that's because those weekly sums are raw totals before weighting was applied that places a higher value on on-demand streams than programmed streams, like those on Pandora, where "Bodak" sports a significantly higher total than "Rockstar.")

Billboard weighs certain streams lower for the Streaming chart? Did we know this already?

Anyways, Nicki also has a song in the Top 10. This is an important week for female rap in general, not just for Cardi!

the song returns to top 10 so it's not an important week for female rap just like it wasn't when iggy and nicki occupied the top 10 together.

It's just that some don't want to focus on Cardi's accomplishment for their own reasons.

Ya'll just give cardi ha props already

There's only ONHs throwing shade to Nicki left and right though?

The Barbz are keeping it classy.

Congrats Cardi, I like her song a lot.

Rooting for Post Malone next week.

not really, shadei s being thrown in both directions.

some Barbz who rarely frequent the hot 100 aren't even as focused on yo gotti and nicki's return to the top 10 as they are cardi and some are showing love and some aren't.

both sides are being shady and that's to be expected as long as they don't go too far.

Damnn that is such a feat to be the 5th female of all time t9 hit #1 but let's bring up the real minority on the charts! She is Latina!!! Is she the firsrt Latina artist since Jennifer Lopez to top the Hot 100? ::jonny:

Well, would it have gone to #4 or #5 without the last few hours of Thursdays discount????

I wouldn't be so sure about the latter part. tbh but i hope this is a sign of strong interest for Cardi. I just hope she can serve at least two hits after this one.

Honestly I don't think a chorus with singing makes a rap song improper. Lauryn was the singer on her song and she served barz, too.

I just don't think it's cool to downplay a legend even though I like cardi too.

apparently this never happens with beyonce vs rihanna a male artist vs a female artist katy vs taylor/gaga

it's funny that people have no problem participating in it or not calling it out unless it's against someone they like.

this is ATRL...people are shady...I'm actually surprised more gaga stans aren't in here shading Nicki about cardi's accomplishment but let's not pretend that this is an exclusive approach people are using as of today.

:doc: Really? I am just saying the song is unique as there are no sung elements to soften it and appeal to non-rap listeners, not that it takes anything away from the female rappers that have hit #1, but Bodak Yellow is unique given that fact.

Also, you can take that "but everybody else does it, so you shouldn't bother to comment" nonsense somewhere else because I think it's stupid in all cases and I don't participate in it at all; I'm commenting here with Cardi vs. Nicki because it's relevant here. I don't even care about Nicki like that, there are just a million and one posts about her every time there's a Cardi thread; it's dumb af.

Now if you would kindly hop off my quote button.

I agree. It's actually more common to have one era filled with 2-3 hits than just one hit and then the 2nd era might not go as well.

hopefully cardi and her team can build from this hype correctly

hmm

so Taylor could return to #1, cardi could fall to #2 and post could probably fall out of top 5 next week...

I'm pretty confident J.Lo hasn't had a #1 this side of Hips Don't Lie tho. I think On The Floor went #3 if i'm not mistaken!
