It sold 1.1 million though. This is only 2017 sales. And the fact that it had little airplay makes it even more impressive because it didn’t need as much radio exposure as some of the other songs on the list.

it's so sad that female mainstream music can essentially be summed up in 10 songs meanwhile there are plenty of songs released by male artists that have had strong relevance this year. this is literally depressing.

1,050,000 pure sales and 1,800,000 SPS for MR.

400,000 pure sales and 900,000+ SPS for TC.

yet it was discounted and promoted on SBHS

all im saying sales especially 1mil sales alone dont make a hit. hits depend on other components too. thats why even though LOTB sold less this year its a way bigger hit.

So? Other songs on this list were discounted for a while. Issues was discounted for 15+ weeks for example. It did have major promo, but its what it needed to be a hit because the radios wouldn't pick it up.

thats hardly 120mil in streams if my calculations are right for MR and even less for TC... thats not the definition of a hit.

especially when you consider that they hardly had any airplay too.

I haven't heard of half these songs :rip: Who are these by?

1. Issues - 1,031,000 (Rounded)

3. Love On The Brain - 636,000

4. How Far I'll Go - 600,000

7. Now Or Never - 450,000

Why is LOTB a way bigger hit when MR outsold it, while LOTB has been streamed only 30M times more than MR WW (380M vs 350M) on YT+Spotify. This also included lots of unoficial uploads for LOTB.

The only reason why LOTB had a big momentum was cause of radio playing it so much over the year.

Nobody said MR was a streaming hit, tho it was streamed 400 million times across all platforms, but it also didn't do as bad as most members here make it out to be. It did quite decent on streaming, considering the lack of Spotify exposure and the music video it received. Definitely nothing to brag about, but not disastruous either.

first the obvious better charting stats for lotb vs MR

We were talking in the USA or am i wrong and that 800k was ww totals

lotb had no promo, no video and no discounts, vs mr which had all three.

their pure sales are basically the same, spotify numbers completely fdiffer

also airplay, plays a big role in determining whether a song is a hit or not, which is why billboard uses it as a component on its Hot100 so yes small airplay does mean not a hit. especially when your other matrics dont make up for it.
