Super Bass probably would’ve gone #1 in the streaming era. Nicki has been unlucky.

Happy for Cardi.

REALLY?? That's amazing although I'm kinda bitter because I wanted Nicki to be the first black rapper to get a #1 :jonny:

I can't believe Nicki hasn't had a #1!  Starships, Anaconda & Bang Bang all felt so much bigger than the Cardi song to me so I really think she deserved to have a #1 first, but am still happy for Cardi breaking boundaries & doing so well

Even so, but then people would have screamed bUT Sup3rBazS wAz a P0p SoNG!, so even then people will have still tried to discredit her :michael: when you're the blueprint every thing you have to do has to be perfect or you will always get discredited.

I just listened to Super Bass yesterday and saw the YouTube comments. Everyone was praising the song and loved that Nicki. Same with Starships.

But Super Bass was definitely more hip-hop/rap than pop. She doesn’t sing in it like her other pop songs.

She’s jumping on a lot of pop features to keep her Hot 100 entries record and she still has most top 10’s anong rappers. Isn’t “Rake It Up” predicted to go #8 this week?

Lol nah sis SuperBass is definitely more pop than hip hop and especially more pop than Bodak Yellow. The chorus is song along with the last chorus. Singing doesn't determine if a song is pop or hip hop, it's the genre of the singing and the genre was pop, not R&B or soul.

It’d say pop-rap. Sis, even the video itself is a rap inspired video. She raps the whole song except the chorus, it’s her first album and before she actually went pop. The beats itself can be conspired pop, yes.

Anyways, the same can be said about Fancy. It can also be considered a pop song even tho Iggy raps.

I honestly can't think of any solo singles from Nicki what were quality enough to be number 1. And that's zero shade. The closest I guess would be Beez In The Trap.

Well yeah, no one considers Fancy hip hop like no one considers SuperBass hip hop. They're both in the pop-rap category

Nicki will have her #1 eventually. If Cardi and Iggy can, So can she. And she’s still getting top 10 hits and rap is hotter now than ever.

Why are Nicki stans so bitter?

Not necessarily because those two debuted at #1, Nicki has aged. Her time has gone. If you notice the rappers hitting #1 these days are all upcoming.

The ****? He had a top 20 and 3-4 top 40's before Damn. That's the problem with you morons now. If it isn't number 1 it isn't relevant. It's still a hit regardless.

That’s hardly a hit no offense

Why are you insulting me? I shouldn't even respond if I get attacked like that. It's just ****ing disrespectful and unnecessary. Learn some class.

Top 40 Hits are essentially nothing. Anyone and anything can move the needle into top 40 with a few radio spins and sales. What I'm saying is that this is his breakthrough era in terms of mainstream where he's made an impact. Where it's not just urban radio pushing the songs, but you see it on pop being played on demand and is picked to win Song of The Year. In mainstream eyes, he is upcoming.

I could tell you about many top 40 songs today, top 20 songs even that a majority of Americans wouldn't know. If we want to be anal about things, we can call Marry The Night, Work Bitch, Bon Appetit, The Cure, Perfect Illusion "hits"

Peak doesn't mean everything, so let's not.

It's a hit. I'm not doing this with you twinks who only Stan for female artists. You know how many songs NEVER chart? I'm talking bubbling under. But you morons have been brainwashed into thinking what a hit is. They're all certified platinum. So regardless in those terms it's a hit.

Random question and this doesn't really belong in this particular thread but in Super Bass does Nicki sing the chorus?  I always thought it was Ester Dean.

Anything that makes the Year-End Chart is a hit in my books and Swimming Pool by Kendrick was at 79 on the 2013 list so...

Seriously, I don't like rap, but don't go discrediting the guy like this.

Also, he sold 1M with with the said single. Are you going to say that true hits sell 2M or what?

This site is stressful with the idiotic logic rumbling in their minds everyday. It’s like talking to bricks. They only talk about what makes top ten and what goes number one. Kendrick’s GKMC era was doing the age where urban songs could barely reach top 20. Those dogs are still very relevant today.

Correct. Thank you!
