Konril Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 RHYTHM 355 [WEEK 25] "K-POP Kancelled" Chart Date: June 19, 2018 Tracking Dates: June 10 - 16, 2018 Obvious clickbait title is obvious I’m doing this 2 days ahead of chart schedule because I’m going to be busy next week. For those that have followed the Arcanean Rhythm for the last 10 Months, you’ll probably see that I am not entirely against K-POP. Last year I’ve got 3 K-POP acts charting, with 1 topping the charts (BLACKPINK – As If It’s Your Last). I tried keeping K-POP songs to a bare minimum just because it is a niche genre and frowned upon. Sometimes I bop to a K-Pop song but quickly forget about them just because it's K-Pop. But ever since my vacation to South Korea, it opened me up into a world of music and visuals that I dismissed and also because my favorites like Lykke Li and Arctic Monkeys’ latest album underwhelmed to the point that I seek music in other areas. Some of these K-Pop songs are actually released from last year, which I bopped to and now getting back to them especially Twice since JYP didn’t put it up on Spotify until just this March and I don’t want to illegally download them. Also Western music doesn’t interest me that much this days due to a genre that I’m not much into. Many artists that constantly topped AR also disappointed me with their latest releases like Clean Bandit, Years & Years and Sigrid lately. This week I have 9 K-POP songs charting, 7 of which are inside the Top 10. Sue me! -------------------------------------------------------------- iKon's Love Scenario continues dominating this week (1 - 1) with a whopping 117 plays keeping it way ahead of Momoland's BBoom BBoom (2 - 2). With the release of iKON TV episode 8 showing their self-produced music video for Beautiful, it made a huge leap inside the Top 10 (15 - 6). Another K-Pop mover is sub-unit LOOΠΔ yyxy feat. Grimes' Love4eva (18 - 10). Story time, last week the song was released and I quickly went to Spotify to look for it. I searched "LOOΠΔ" and only found the song of Olivia Hye as their latest release. It wasn't until the night of Friday where I searched "Love4eva" that the actual sub-unit and song was actually there. With just 1 1/2 days on the tracking week, it still manages to debut at #18. Speaking of BlackPink, they finally released their Mini Album after 1 year. I was underwhelmed with the title track at first but it quickly grew on me, it's still their weakest but it's a cute bop as DDU-DU DDU-DU starts gunning at #4 with 1 1/2 days of the tracking week left. It is this week's Hot Shot Debut. Their other song Forever Young, dated as it may have sound (not to mention a 2NE1 vibe), starts strongly at #9, I think I preferred this song more than their title track. DDU-DU DDU-DU just benefited with a higher chart position because of that stunning music video. I pray for a music video. Their other song Really and See U Later are at #21 and #22 respectively. Country bumpkin Kacey Musgraves still makes stability with High Horse (3 - 3) even with the onslaught of K-Pop songs. The rest however fell, Florence + the Machine's Hunger (4 - 5), Twice's Likey (6 - 7) and Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (5 - 8). Summer just started in South Korea and this summer bop Red Flavor by Red Velvet is coming, watch out for this bad boy (22 - 20). Arctic Monkeys' Four Out Of Five, Bastille's Quarter Past Midnight, Panic! At The Disco's High Hopes, and Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa's One Kiss where unfortunately victims of the Hallyu Wave as they are booted off the Top 10. Konril Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 RHYTHM 356 [WEEK 26] "Hallyu Tsunami" Chart Date: June 26, 2018 Tracking Dates: June 17 - 23, 2018 I got lazy this week because I got busy and I haven't gotten the chance to sweep YTT (I also got distracted laughing at "Everything Is Love" HDD threads. ). I' ll do it later this week. Anyway, K-Pop is here to say because I haven't enjoyed Western music lately. I'm here to bombard you all with K-Pop music and visuals. Deal with it. How slayful is it? Well 8/10 from the Top 10 are K-Pop. iKon is serving a monstrous duopoly as Love Scenario continues dominating this week (1 - 1) while their self-produced MV help Beautiful leap to the runner-up spot (6 - 2). Momoland's BBoom BBoom retreats (2 - 3), as well as Country bumpkin Kacey Musgraves with High Horse (3 - 4) Florence + the Machine's Hunger serves stability (5 - 5). BlackPink's DDU-DU DDU-DU retreats (4 - 6) while Forever Young climbs up a bit (9 - 7). Another K-Pop mover is sub-unit LOOΠΔ yyxy feat. Grimes' Love4eva (10 - 9). The biggest jump however is the summery jam Red Flavor by Red Velvet (20 - 8). A surprise debut is made by the trainees of the 3rd Season of Produce 48 as Nekkoya (Pick Me) starts at #10. This catchy song is my favorite from the 3 seasons so far. Rooting for Sakura Miyawaki and lowkey here for Wang Ke. Two songs leave the Top: Twice's Likey (7 - 11) and Ariana Grande's No Tears Left To Cry (8 - 12).
