Konril Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 RHYTHM 319 "Always The Bridesmaid, Never The Bride" Chart Date: October 10, 2017 Tracking Week: October 1 - 7, 2017 Server issues are a bitch when updating your personal chart!!! Super Far by LANY remains atop the Arcanean Rhythm for a 3rd week while New Rules by Dua Lipa returns to its peak at the runner-up spot (3 - 2). This is the 3rd time New Rules is the bridesmaid and never the bride, 1st being blocked by herself with Blow Your Mind (Mwah) which closes our Top 10 and takes a heavy stumble from last week (6 - 10) and the 2nd time around by Perfume's If You Wanna which descend this week (2 - 3). Speaking of bride, Dua Lipa is currently dating the frontman of LANY, Paul Klein. An easter egg in their Super Far music video is that Paul's shoes had the words Dua Lipa written on it (I wasn't able to see it clearly since my eyesight is unreliable but apparently Dua confirmed it). Elevate by St. Lucia remains stationary (4 - 4), so does Don't Speak by Far East Movement feat. Tiffany and King Chain (5 - 5). Susanne Sundfør's Undercover continues its snail pace ascent (7 - 6). Homemade Dynamite [Remix] by Lorde (feat. Khalid, Post Malone & SZA) blasts into the Top 10 (13 - 7) matching the #7 peak of the original version of Homemade Dynamite. HAIM's Little Of Your Love leapfrogs inside the Top 10 (42 - 8) matching its previous peak of 8. The song was propelled inside due to its music video, with the sisters continuing their dancing routine as seen from Want You Back. Royal Republic's Baby remains where it landed from its debut last week (9 - 9). Tune in next week for a dose of nonsense selections of songs that fancies my ears. Her history of being called ugly during her stint as a Girls Aloud member made me realize how personal her album is and made Porcelain Heart more heartfelt to listen. Shame that her album wasn't supported that much by the GP. Oh well, still love you Nicola. 4 YEARS AGO Rhythm 110 (October 8, 2013) Lorde - Royals At this time Royals was already on its way towards an impressive 9 week run at #1 on the Hot 100. Royals managed to block Walking On Air by Katy Perry on my chart. My younger brother who listens to mostly indie music started to ***** out The Love Club EP and influenced me to listen more to Lorde. 2 YEARS AGO Rhythm 214 (October 6, 2015) Disclosure - Magnets (feat. Lorde) Disclosure, how do I love thee again? Well, they managed to replace themselves at #1. With Lorde and the Lawrence brothers collaborating during the BRITs, it was no surprise that they teamed up for their Sophomore album. This is their 4th #1 in the same album after Holding On, Omen and Hourglass (Bang That is awful). Lorde is 18 here now and showed a very raunchy music video, Teen Hottie indeed. Chart Date: October 17, 2017 Tracking Week: October 8 - 14, 2017 I neglected listening to music this week. I was catching up with my movies to watch. It only took 4 plays to reach my Top 10. Dua Lipa bookends our Top 10 this week crowning the #1 and closing with the #10. New Rules by Dua Lipa finally summits itself after 14 weeks of battling inside the Top 10 and being blocked 3 times. It's chart run so far: (5 - 7 - 3- 5 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 2 - 2 - 4 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 1). Blow Your Mind (Mwah) remains stable from last week (10 - 10). Talent always wins. Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of us. Former #1s got a huge boost towards the Top 10. Like I said, I neglected my chart this week and just listened more to them randomly. Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man blasts into the runner-up position after exiting the Top 10 last week (11 - 2). La Roux's I'm Not Your Toy makes a giant leap (42 - 7). Homemade Dynamite [Remix] by Lorde (feat. Khalid, Post Malone & SZA) blasts into the Top 3 (7 - 3), Perfume's If You Wanna descends this week (3 - 4) and rounding up our Top 5 is former 3 weeker #1 Super Far by LANY (1 - 5). Konril Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 Movies I Recently Watched Here are the movies that made me mess up my chart this week Spoiler The Darjeeling Limited (2007) An emotional comedy about three brothers re-forging family bonds. The eldest, hopes to reconnect with his two younger siblings by taking them on a train trip across the vibrant and sensual landscape of India. Having watched The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel, I can honestly say that Wes Anderson is my favorite director. People says that this is his weakest film, but I find this movie utterly charming and quirky like the rest of his filmography. Maybe I connect more to this film than other people because, like the plot, I have 2 other brothers and we've lost our father 4 years ago. I can really relate to the dynamics of the siblings shown here and what it means to be a family. Cannot wait for Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs. Requiem For A Dream (2000) A gritty drama imaginatively evokes the inner landscape of four people trapped by their addictions, longing to connect, to love and feel loved, the film is a parable of happiness gloriously found and tragically lost. I decided to rewatch this movie because I was too young to understand what was going I remembered I was visibly upset when I first watched it. Now going back to this film, it is hard to watch the descent of each characters towards their addiction due to their inner demons. Most especially Ellen Burstyn's character, such an evocative and tragic descent of a mother who longs to be known and leave just a little legacy to her name. A young Jared Leto, beautiful Jennifer Connelly and a surprisingly dramatic Marlon Wayans. Oh and Lux Aeterna is such an amazing soundtrack. My favorite Darren Aronofsky film so far. The Fall (2006) A bedridden patient captivates a hospitalized girl with a fantastic tale involving heroes, mystics and villains on a desert island. Oh wow. This movie definitely shoot up as one of my favorite movies ever. The storytelling maybe flawed, especially with that ending but the epic itself is a beautiful tableau of colors and culture around the world. It is such a feast to the eyes that I recommend seeing this film in the widest and most clearest screen you can possibly view. Lee Pace (from Pushing Daisies) is as captivating as ever with an equally charming 6 year old co-star. This movie made me wish to travel more and see the wonders of the world. Speaking of wonders of the world, I'm planning on watching Samsara (2011) next. Synecdoche, New York (2008) A theatre director struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he creates a life-size replica of New York City inside a warehouse as part of his new play. I first watched this ages ago because the director/writer of this movie wrote Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, one of my favorite movies ever. Decided to rewatch this one because this film is very ambitious and makes you think with its deep meanings. The 2nd time I watched this I picked up cues here and there and I get fascinated more. This movie is really bleak and depressing at times and once you get into the meta part where reality and fantasy mixes, that is where everything becomes too much but gives off so many layers of the characters. Definitely a hard movie to watch but becomes really profound with repeated views. The Neon Demon (2016) When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has. More on style and less on substance. This description is not a bad thing on this movie. The plot is predictable and shallow like the visuals but it doesn't take itself seriously. It doesn't school with how modeling is superficial blah, blah, blah, it owns its superficiality and boy does this movie look gorgeous. Elle Fanning is naive and beautiful in this, she becomes consumed with vanity in this movie (like I said, predictable but it owns it). The ending could've been better but hey, I understand the obsession it takes to be beautiful. Check this movie out. Melancholia (2011) As a planet hurtles toward a collision course with Earth, two sisters cope with the approaching doomsday in different ways. I try to watch movies as New Movies and Rewatching Movies. This is a rewatch. Back in 2011 I tried watching Melancholia because its premise is a doomsday, an end of the world movie and got disappointed that it wasn't the scientific and chaotic approach that I had hope for. Now rewatching this one, it becomes more of a character study on Dunst (she gave an impressive performance) on depression and anxiety from her sister with the gorgeous End of the World as a catalyst for such events. Its movies like this that makes me love cinema when I'm not looking for a blockbuster. The Nice Guys (2016) In 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a **** star. Time for me to watch familiar territory of movies with some buddy cop films. The Nice Guys is a ridiculously plotted movie (after the conspiracy is revealed, SPOILERS!). The chemistry of Crowe and Gosling is hilarious in this buddy comedy. It gets crazier as the movie goes on culminating in a weird motivation as to why the **** star was killed (seriously that was the least probable cause on why that happened, SPOILERS!). I highly enjoyed movie even though the script seemed to suddenly turn very basic when all the pieces finally fits together. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter with two men, who claim the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack. Don't let the title fool you, it's only at the end of the movie where it all makes sense. This movie a claustrophic look at a held captive psychological trope in survival movie. But it is very effective here due to the performance of John Goodman. Is he good or is he bad? Is he right or is he wrong? Is it true or is it a lie? You question his motives and makes you go back in forth with your assessment with him. Is man really the monster on this movie? Or is your judgmental character right? Whatever it is, it really is survival of the fittest. Also ALIENS!!!
