UFO Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) Album Title: TBA - Black Sun Spoiler Inspired by: No Sun on the Horizon - ceremonials VERSE In the morning All the way into the afternoon I was falling Kept falling in all your ocean blue Your source of life I grew all these flowers just for you I shine brightly Knowing you can't live without me too I start dimming As evening dies, night hides me from you In her shadow I'm shining but you haven't a clue With her moonlight She steals my love, my entire world As you break my universal trust CHORUS I'm barely shining I'm trying to give you light But I'm void of all your love I lose you in the nighttime Your horizon disappears A world so out of my reach All my efforts are eclipsed The world starts to freeze And you'd rather have the moon Cause I'm a black sun And you'd rather have the moon Cause I'm now a black sun BRIDGE In the past light years, you revolved around my sun But once my light had faded You were with her bright side every night I was gone You call me crazy, that I have the ocean blues Why wouldn't I when I can't forget I need you? OUTRO But you'd rather have the moon But you'd rather love the moon Than a black sun in the dark I'm in the dark A Love In A Lie Spoiler Inspired by: Narcissus VERSE (I think I've finally found a love) Someone has finally matched my beauty After an odyssey lasting a loveless lifetime (I think I've finally found a love) When others expressed their freak lust to me I wouldn't echo it back, they weren't worthy enough (But now I've finally found a love) I found it through daydreams, staring at the sea When an Adonis suddenly appeared in vision (But now I've finally found a love) Instantly he was right in front of me What if I no longer had a reversed Midas touch? But even if I can't touch you, my love won't give up PRE-CHORUS In dreams we will dance I feel you Not with my hands I feel you Only with my heart I feel you Never through touch CHORUS Cause as I stare at you amidst the azure sea Your muddy blank mirrors stare right back at me I try to stroke your hair, I try to kiss your cheek (You try to stroke my hair, you try to kiss my cheek) But for some reason my kiss can never reach (But for some reason your kiss can never reach) The waters drip on my lips as tides fold you in In that moment I realise you were a figment Cause as I try to stare back at you again All that's staring back at me is the sand A love in a lie VERSE (I think I found a love in a lie) Unfortunately love got lost at sea Back to Atlantis now a city lost forever (I think I found a love in a lie) I found a love but it never found me I believed in the gods for the first and the last time I thought I no longer had a reversed Midas touch But even if I can't touch you, my love won't give up PRE-CHORUS In dreams we will dance I feel you Not with my hands I feel you Only with my heart I feel you Never through touch CHORUS Cause as I stared at you amidst the azure sea Your muddy blank mirrors stared right back at me I tried to stroke your hair, I tried to kiss your cheek (You tried to stroke my hair, you tried to kiss my cheek) But for some reason my kiss could never reach (But for some reason your kiss could never reach) The waters dripped on my lips as tides folded in In that moment I realised you were a figment Cause as I try to stare back at you again All that's staring back at me is the sand A love in a lie BRIDGE But even if I can't touch you, in dreams we will dance My love won't give up even if all I have is sand Even if you were just a reflection I'll hold on tight to everything I have Which is the memory that I'm capable to love Even if it is me giving myself that chance CHORUS Cause as I stared at you amidst the azure sea Your muddy blank mirrors stared right back at me I tried to stroke your hair, I tried to kiss your cheek (You tried to stroke my hair, you tried to kiss my cheek) But for some reason my kiss could never reach (But for some reason your kiss could never reach) The waters dripped on my lips as tides folded in In that moment I realised you were a figment Cause as I try to stare back at you again All that's staring back at me is the sand A love in a lie A love in a lie For me love used to be a lie But now I've found love in a lie A love in a lie Week Song Genre Peak Score 1. 2. The bridge is a mesh of all those genres so I merged them all together and created "R&B Dance-Pop Ballad" I got rid of the "AC/Folk" cause that would've been slightly too extra and "Ballad" kind of gets the point across I'm not just a songwriter, I'm also an INNOVATOR Edited September 3, 2017 by UFO

Jackson Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ P H A S E 1 ROUND 3 : WRITING CAMPS ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Congrats for making it this far hennies! This week we're bringing you a twist to a Platinum Hit classic: the writing camp challenge. Debuted in Season 7 by Truth Teller, the challenge hasn't changed much since its inception, but we thought it would be fun to give an alternate take to the challenge. This season, instead of writing for a made up artist, you'll be writing songs inspired by real, accomplished songwriters. Your job is to choose one label/artist and write a song according to the judge's prompt. At the end of the results show next Sunday, each judge will choose which writers they are hiring for their label. So here are your options for this week: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @ceremonials - Heretic Records Artist: Florence and the Machine Genre: Alternative, Baroque Write-Up: Florence Welch is an alternative artist who is known for her fantastical lyrics and music style, as well as her focus on poetics in lyricism and narrative techniques. She uses a variety of influences in terms of genre, but can most notably be traced back to baroque or alternative rock. In this album, Florence wants to take a more traditional route, and have her writing style stripped back a bit, so it's more accessible to the average listener, while still keeping true to the core foundations of her songwriting. What she wants from this writing camp is to find a bridge between her very fantastical and imaginative lyrics and the toned down and reserved lyrics of the average songwriter. In terms of sound, Florence doesn't want to abandon her fanbase, so it should still be at least somewhat alternative in nature. Here aresome examples of the direction Florence would like to take. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @Citrus New Roads Records Label: New Roads Records Artist: Dolly Parton Genre(s): Country, Spiritual/Religious New Roads Records, based off of one of Dolly's more famous quotes, is a new solo label dedicated to refining and expanding the voice of the already legendary artist. Dolly's songwriting style has a heavy focus on narrative structure and strong emotion. Her songs should be able to explore any and all subjects in a nuanced and open minded way (as you'll see below in some of the examples). We encourage you to peruse the songs below, as they give a brief glimpse into the expanse of Dolly's topics. From love to suicide, incest to being a transgender woman, Dolly's done it. If you think you've got a yarn to spin and want to contribute to the legacy of one of the greatest songwriters in history, now's your chance! Examples: Songs with Heavy Storytelling Coat of Many Colors The Bridge Robert Traveling Man Songs with a Spiritual Element Better Day The Seeker Better Get to Livin' Travelin' Thru ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @Moonchild - Myfella Records Artist: Amy Winehouse Genres: Soul, R&B, jazz Myfella Records is compiling a B-sides album for Amy and recently found a set of lost recordings (that's you). Myfella Records is looking to use the recordings closest in style to Amy's image and artistry for her upcoming release. Inspired by Motown, Stax, soul, traditional pop, and 1960s girl groups, Amy is known for her fluid, witty songwriting. Her lyrics are tight and highly referential, and they reflect her brash, soulful voice. You're free to experiment, but be careful as Amy is a hard writer to imitate. The songs below are the closest to what we're looking for, but you can draw inspiration from any of her material. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @Jackson - Reid Records Artist: twenty one pilots Genre: Alternative, rap rock, indietronica, reggae pop In a world where streaming and digital sales have taken over, twenty one pilots have decided to leave their current label Fueled By Ramen to start something more organic. The problem is, they didn't realize starting their own label would take so much time away from the creative process. The band is struggling to balance their newfound worldwide fame after smash hits like Stressed Out and Ride with their indie credibility - a good number of their songs reference going against the grain. The band wants to show the world that they can retain their mainstream success without sacrificing who they are as artists. Common themes in their music include mental illness, individualism, and retaining a connection to their childhood. The band rarely opts for love songs, but when they do their themes are unique. Don't be afraid to be conceptual and take risks with structure and lyrical matter here. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ENTRIES ARE DUE THURSDAY AT 11:59 PM EST
UFO Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 I KNEW IT ok let me read through this challenge now
UFO Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) ok I'm definitely leaning towards Florence/twenty one pilots since they're more my style I'll read through it again I'm pretty sure I'm doing Reid Records tho Edited September 3, 2017 by UFO
Jackson Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 WINNING SONG @Aurora - Loch Ness “Loch Ness” inspired by the cryptid Loch Ness Monster verse one Drunk on fragrant highland air With ruins of unanswered prayers Vain endeavours to repair These crumbling castle walls Whispers of your whereabouts Erode a mind instilled with doubt Tempted by a life without The safety of the shore pre-chorus But do I dare to dive in deep Disturbing your eternal sleep Surrender up my soul to keep Or keep it to myself? chorus If I fall in your oasis If I fall for your allure Will you stay forever faceless Will I search a little more Just a ripple on the surface Any sign that you exist Any sign you’re truly out there And I’ll gladly take the risk verse two Felt I’d found you once before Refracted rays and wishful thoughts Silhouettes I watched distort Beneath the setting sun Wading through the murky depths With eager eyes and bated breath Now my heart has nothing left And clarity has gone pre-chorus But do I dare to dive in deep Disturbing your eternal sleep Surrender up my soul to keep Or keep it to myself? chorus If I fall in your oasis If I fall for your allure Will you stay forever faceless Will I search a little more Just a ripple on the surface Any sign that you exist Any sign you’re truly out there And I’ll gladly take the risk bridge The dark of night is setting in Hope and searchlight growing dim Drenched and out of focus Loch abandoned for the shore A cold enigma far from sight Leaves my body watertight Landlocked from emotion Till another river forms chorus If I fall in your oasis If I fall for your allure Will you stay forever faceless Will I search a little more Just a ripple on the surface Any sign that you exist Any sign you’re truly out there And I’ll gladly take the risk ▴ ▴ ▴ Commentary I chose the Loch Ness Monster as my inspirational cryptid. I liked the unique nature of the cryptid angle and decided to follow down that path. Being half Scottish, the Loch Ness Monster has always been something that’s intrigued me, never really knowing if it exists or not. I wanted to take a metaphorical approach to this challenge and connect the mystery and uncertainty of the Loch Ness Monster’s existence to another more relatable concept; love. It’s something I’m largely inexperienced with and something I’m yet to genuinely feel, and I wanted to convey that. I was heavily inspired by the setting of Loch Ness itself as well as the infamous cryptid, likening nearby castle ruins and frigid temperatures to what it feels like to be slowly preparing to open myself up to love and the cold, harsh reality of rejection. Essentially, the Loch Ness Monster in the song is love.
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted September 3, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted September 3, 2017 these choices are uhm... interesting.
Citrus Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Not my fault if y'all are afraid to try to live up to a songwriter better than anyone here. 90% of y'all were afraid to do anything but basic mythology last round so this isn't surprising!
