In Latin America, Despacito style is called reaggaeton and also urban. shape of you has a dancehall beat, don't know if it can be defined as urban Exactly 5 minutes ago, Erreur2 La Nature said: It's very clearly pop. With other influences. And those are reggaeton and dancehall, urban related genres If you're going to go with the whole "pop with other influences" label you might as well do that for the other number ones too Edited August 7, 2017 by brainmaniac
Badboidami Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Finally, I could listen to Bodak Yellow. And this song is so bad for me. Maybe it will somehow grow, but actually I totally don't understand the hype.

I know everything urban influenced is demanded right now, but with all kindness and respect to Cardi as an artist, she lowkey sounds for me like her jaw would have been ran over by lawn mower.

PurrKaty Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 For people arguing about what number one songs are pop. Shape Of You, That's What I Like, and Despacito are all heavily pop influenced. Even Starboy is pretty poppy. Theres a reason why SOY, TWIL, and Despacito topped the pop songs chart for multiple weeks. And Starboy went top 3 even. And there's a reason why Black Beatles only peaked at #13, Bad & Boujee peaked at #31, degrees Humble at #26 on pop songs. Yes all the songs are influenced by multiple genres of music. But there's no denying the fact that the first 4 mentioned are very poppy and the later 3 are more urban/hiphop/rap.

Not sure many people would see it as "urban" if another artist had sang it Black Beatles is fairly poppy too with its melody. It's actually more singing than rapping in that song Bad and Boujee is definitely the most urban. I don't think I hear anything really pop or mainstream sounding in that
