GokuRed Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 "Mi Gente" might go T10 without a remix. A remix is totally coming though and we all know it ft. who though should be interesting If it comes in the next week or two Despacito is OVER. It's not the greatest song but I'll take it at #1 to stop Despacito.

My Heart Will Go On would've spent quite a while in the Top 10, probably T 5 and even T 3 prior to the US Released CD and/or cassette tape in 1986. How do you know? Wasn't enough for the #1 spot? "Iris" was quite huge, not surprised it's such a classic from the 90's.
Mattyboy Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 It's crazy how the #1's this year have mostly been single week #1's or long ass #1's. We've also had 2 #1 debuts this year just like last year. Streaming is just too unpredictable. The only artists capable of a #1 debut is Taylor, Adele, Justin Timberlake, or Justin Bieber at this point.

Eminem too (his last album had three T10 debuts ) - his last lead single would have gone #1 if it were GP-friendly, still went #3 anyways.

The person in charge of the Hot 100 in 1998 and "Between The Bullets" (Theta, but I can't remember the last name) provided the peak positions for songs as they peaked on the "test chart" and exceptional airplay that year. Iris would have peaked at #3, Are You That Somebody #4, and Torn #5, which was the only songs of three to reach 100 M AI, but I guess it came along when the Top 3 was super strong. However, while not adding points to their totals, many stores imported singles that were only available in other countries, though often the artists were from the US. Iris, Are You That Somebody, and Torn were among the songs released in virtually every other country of size except the US. Also, in 1998, three physical singles sold at least 2 M copies (You're Still The One and Too Close), one of which sold over 2.5 M singles (The Boy Is Mine). These three songs also had excellent airplay (Top 10 YE HRS) and commanded the Top 3 of the Hit 100 for literally months. These three also finished #1 Top Close, #2 The Boy Is Mine, and #3 You're Still The One on the YE H100. Many other songs sold over 1 M, with some of those reaching 1.5 M. I will look for that issue at a later time via my laptop. I'm on my phone right now, and it's too late (or early at 0230 Tampa time) to fire up the full sized computer.

Konril Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 There goes 12th week at #1. 13th week looks good too.

thatsmydemi Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Sorry Not Sorry just debuted on Pandora at #14 with almost 3m spins. Will this have any effect on its Billboard position? And will it effect the song this week or the following one? I don't really know how Pandora works or if it's big enough to have any impact on Billboard. If someone could answer these questions...
One Nation Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 @simmnfierzig How many views and sales would LOYALTY have to get this week to have a chance at Top 10?

It's getting more airplay than Despacito ever got before it got the remix, and Mi Gente is also on more US-relevent Spotify playlists than Despacito was. I think Despacito would have been higher in the charts with this treatment. I think you're only measuring it in terms of "Despacito did X well without a Spanglish version, Mi Gente is doing better, so it will easily go to #1". But Mi Gente has gotten more promotion than Despacito did, I'd say all things considered it's actually doing worse (not to say it will be a flop or can't be a huge hit, but I can't see it being a #1). GokuRed Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 So Passionfruit is over, any chance for Signs or No Complaints to stay on chart for another few weeks?

fridayteenage Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 does anyone know what the longest lasting Singles Sales #1s were back in the days before Digital Songs?

Konril Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 Funny how Single Sales became negligible in the Hot 100, but it helped Born This Way clenched its 6th week at #1.
brianc33710 Posted July 29, 2017 Posted July 29, 2017 20 hours ago, Jackson said: Do we know where Don't Speak would have peaked? Don't Speak would've needed at least 1 M in physical single sales to have had a chance to hit #1. Every #1 song in 1996 went at least Platinum. Celine Dion cut off Because You Loved Me singles at just over 1 M, meaning it had already fallen in sales (and out of #1 on the Hot 100) BEFORE it peaked at airplay. Here are probably the best two remaining points of reference: Hootie & The Blowfish had 4 T 15 songs, all of which went T 5 (I think 3 T 2s) on HRS, from their 1.6 X Diamond CD Cracked Rear View. However, while the band did release singles for each song, none of them sold over 350-400k, and these quanities weren't limited by the labels. It's just that EVERYONE bought the album instead of the singles! Only Want To Be With You was their highest peaking song, stopping at #6. So, even with 4 big, and three huge, airplay hits, Hootie was kept out of the T 5 because none of the songs ever even went Gold. Darius Rucker actually wondered why everyone but his band could earn at least one Gold single. His band's huge debut album with four big airplay hits couldn't generate even one Gold single. One more is Alanis Morrisite. Her first two songs (You Ought To Know and Hand In My Pocket) were airplay only hits. The label issued a physical single for song 3 Ironic, and that song, #4 peak, went gold. Single 4, You Learn, had a single that peaked at #6 because it fell short of Gold. Jagged Little Pill also sold 16 M, and had two more airplay hits after its two singles. As an aside, Darius Rucker didn't earn his first Gold single until he started his Country solo career in 2008. The first 2 songs went Gold, and the 3rd went Platinum. Now his biggest hit, Wagon Wheel is actually undercertified at 3XP since 2014. Since then, it's sold at least 750k-1 M downloads (now at or a little past 3.5 M) and it's streaming still enters the BB Country SSC once a month or so (WW actually hit the Top 50 on ODS for a few weeks in 2013). So WW is probably at 5XP, and the parent album should be Platinum instead of just Gold.

Kelly – Bump N Grind [1994] MercyMe – I Can Only Imagine [2003] There was another song from, I think, Men In My Head, that spent 25 weeks at #1 in the 2010s. Also, New Hallow has three of the biggest selling physical singles of the 2010s, some songs sold as much as 150k. In fact, one of their singles is the only song based on Physical Single sales alone to hit the H 100 (peaked 95-99). Skyfall, Call Me Maybe, and Born This Way also sold around 125k, #1. Sadly, the physical singles era passed on even many years before the downloads took over. So a physical single spending 14 weeks at #1 in the 2010s sold maybe 2.5% of those long running #1s 15 years earlier.

Yep, 24k its last #1 week, and that may be the best weekly total for the 2010s. Artists ought to try this route out again, as Hello would've probably gone Gold in just physical singles. Back to BTW, it sold around 125k total and finished #2 on Physical Single sales in 2011. It should rank in the Top 10 for the 2010s, as fewer than 10 have sold 100-150k copies.

Yeah lol! That's why I've suggested giving physical single sales such a high ratio in my proposed T 100 chart. Even if a such a song just sells 1k, it would count as 20k downloads.. Maybe I could make it 1k physical single sales = 10k downloads. Either way, I'd give more weight to these sales than BB currently awards. We've already determined that BB weighs these sales heavier than downloads. So I would simply implement such a high ratio for physical singles. Gaga's 24k songs = 480k downloads in my proposed chart changes. Even if I went with would 1:10, sales would still get 24k physical singles = 240 k downloads. Since even downloads rarely reach 240k now, 1:10 would equal super strong in my proposed chart changes.
