It's a combination of a score based on their peak (a song that went #1 gets a score of 40, #2 gets 39, etc), and then points for longevity (out of 9 per week). So for example, a song that spends a week at #6 and a week at #11 would have a peak score of 35, and a longevity score of 13, so a total of 48. It's measured in the same way for albums and artists, but obviously scaled because the charts are different sizes.

 

TL;DR - it's how I measure a song's success, rather than just using plays. The higher the score, the bigger the song!
