iamvladd Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 If anyone is interested in this kind of stuff, looks like Spotify & UMG finally agreed on a long-term deal: http://nypost.com/2017/04/03/spotify-umg-finally-reach-long-term-streaming-deal/
brianc33710 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Hunt's Back Road had a good jump on Spotify with just a few hours of ACM promo Sunday night. Given that it's audio only YT clip is up 100 spots from yesterday, I'll predict Hunt will at least be Top 20 on the Spotify chart released later today.
omrimayo Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 2.3 For Humble today! That's insane, I think top 3 is really happening for him this week, no? Top 5 is sure. He will be in 20M streams at least this week, if not more.
Quaithe Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Kendrick smashing on youtube is so unexpected the king is finally coming thru i'm so happy

brianc33710 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I'm underwhelmed with Hunt's jump on Spotify. Also, I can't understand why Tin Man didn't even crack the Spotify Top 200 with TM doing so well on ITunes. Yes, I acknowledge that Country lags behind when related to streaming. However, several Country songs with less impressive sales totals repeak, reenter, and/or debut on Spotify today.

But yeah, I'd imagine the other majors will work out similar deals. As of today per Ek, UMG artists can choose whether to window their new albums for 2 weeks to subscribers only; singles will still be available to both tiers. Edited April 4, 2017 by iamvladd

Spotify finally gave in because they get to keep a greater portion of the pie when it comes to streaming revenues. Letting the singles be on both tiers, piracy won't increase dramatically I'd imagine. The free users could manage with those while they wait out the 2 weeks, or even become subscribers at that point. Spotify will use this deal a template for the upcoming Sony and Warner Music deals. Edited April 4, 2017 by iamvladd
alexanderao Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 It was paramount that they secured a revenue increase by the conclusion of the negotiations. Daniel has to be feeling pretty good right now. I definitely don't have a problem waiting two weeks, and I'm confident that most people won't. Obviously, it'll be quite fascinating to observe the first- and second-week figures for albums that are initially restricted to the paid tier. But like 2-week Apple Music exclusives, the impact of this policy change in terms of streaming numbers should not extend past debuts.
