I'm surprised Boo'd Up is struggling to fully take off on Spotify when it smashed on both YT and AM

So around 600-650m with Apple Music, I was expecting 850m but it was a bit too frontloaded. I don’t see hitting 700k first week if the digital sales are 100-150k.

 

I guess streaming, contrary to what people used to say, actually makes 1 million debuts harder but it gives way more longevity.

Spotify is gonna be like 40% of his streams.

 

320 million Spotify (40%) + 480 million Apple Music (60%) = 800 million

 

And yes, streaming era will have lower first weeks not higher. People who were expecting things like 800K sales and 1.5m SPS weren't thinking rationally.

The data for 2018 also shows that Apple is experiencing a far stronger rate-of-growth in the United States, suggesting a wider lead over the coming months.  Trial users were not part of the comparison.

It is, and that's a product of many different factors– Apple being an American company, iPhones being way more popular here than WW, AM catering towards urban listeners (who of course are more concentrated here), among others.

 

Spotify really needs to buckle down now. As a public company, they need to start improving their margins ASAP and now they really need to start growing their subscriber count more quickly to fend off AM.
