This basically means an artist has to work hard to make a connection with its listeners by putting out really good music every few months. Of course initially by playlisting aggressively. But when he has established himself, then he can enjoy their patronage like how Ed Sheeran does. That's when people take the initiative to playlist you in their personal playlists. Of course that means you put out mushy generic music.
