Might have to do with early marketing. Drake, Dre, Weeknd some of its earliest A-list celebs. Most of the exclusives and artist deals were with hip hop artists like Chance, Future, Frank Ocean, Khaled + it being an Apple product helped. A lot of the young hip hop fans naturally moved to where their faves were doing interesting things.

Absolutely, I think that’s the right explanation. They targeted urban listeners early on, knowing there are enough of them to carry the service to prosperity. But they still need higher levels of engagement from their users.

having used both.. i dont think AM will overcome this until they remove the itunes store. It's too confusing
