No one cares about that frontloaded ****. It spanned multiple hits. It’s her best album. I wonder if ATRL will ever get that no one stays on top forever. Look at Prism. Ended Katy’s hit streak but no one said anything, for some reason it’s always applied in Gaga’s case. It wasn’t an “imperial phase”. She was an extremely successful pop singer and now she is a successful one. The overreaction...

She was an extremely successful pop singer and now she is a successful one. The overreaction... Pet Shop Boys coined the phrase Imperial Phase. It refers to that period in a pop star's career when they can do no wrong - hit after hit. As soon as their imperial phase is over, their career never quite the same. It's like the first flush of love. X She was the biggest popstar on the planet in 2009. Declining from 15M to 2.5M in just 5 years is not a good thing. The reason Katy didn't get dragged during that era was because her decline wasn't that big. She got the 2 biggest hits of her career moreover. Those balanced out her underperforming singles. But now that she couldn't get one on her previous level, she is getting dragged. Of course, no one stays on top forever, but it's the intensity of the decline that matters. Being good or bad is imperative for being a popstar.

And put on streaming after that. There's a reason even adele dint do that. Windowing is must for such a huge release. Edited October 22, 2017 by Monster Megamind
Starkboy Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 What Lovers Do #5 on WW spotify I thought they were weak on streaming because DWK and Cold did poorly Quite the opposite tbh. Only Cold performed poorly Sugar : 637M Don't Wanna Know : 490M Maps : 416M Animals : 396M Moves Like Jagger : 302M Payphone : 282M She Will Be Loved : 273M (!!!!) One More Night : 246M these are all impressive numbers (consider MLJ, Payphone and OMN are all from 2011-2012, SWBL is even older) their hits tend to be global

She didn't really need hits during her first 3 eras, but now that she's a pop girl, she will need them. Moreover, she has received more backlash and negative press during these last couple years than what she got during her first 3 eras combined. Interesting fall for "Gorgeous". And "Look" might be out of the top 50 of Spotify even before album release week.
