alexanderao Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Mess. I didn't see it when looking for it because it's not listed with the other "G" countries (obviously because its country code is DE, but it caught me off guard).

Work debuted with 2.1M, though I remember its debut being riddled with glitches and its 1st day on the chart coming well after it was put on Spotify. I think @Starkboy can tell me if that's right or not.

They seem to think Katy got 3.062M first day and Adele only got 3.022M.

Galah Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 The whole Katy breaking the record thing is confusing to me. But you think Spotify would have more accurate records of this stuff? Maybe the 3.3M figure for Adele was including a bit more than 24 hours? I don't know how it works exactly. But surely all those news sites wouldn't report unreliable data...

I'm trying to understand why she's all of a sudden so much more global than local.....Maybe she should return to her Rock and Alternative roots found on One Of The Boys. I hate to blame ageism, but maybe Pop music shouldn't be her focus right now. Hopefully she'll have a wider range of songs on her upcoming album. Going back to Alternative, given the success of several female artists there in the 2010s could be a wise move. Obviously Rihanna shelved much of what was thought to make up Anti. Katy has time to do the same, as adding in guitars wouldn't take to much time.

I saw a Spotify clarification message sometime Saturday afternoon saying she had broken the record for US females first day, not all females first day. This would mean Adele did get more streams than Katy.

But that still doesn't explain why she obviously performed relative poorly here in the US and still managed to get "record" first day streaming. Adele is from the UK, and she did 1.3-1.4 M in the US her first day. This is well above Katy, who is obviously from the US. I'm not trying to shade Katy. I'm just questioning the source saying she outdid Adele when the main Spotify sources on record show otherwise.
